Stayed for 4 nights. Easy walk to the mall and metro station. Staff very friendly. Room was nice with lots of space. Restaurant down stairs is good.

This was our second visit in the past year to the Sofitel DC, and, hopefully, we will have the opportunity to experience Sofitel hospitality at this location again.
The staff here is extremely accommodating ("of course" is invariably the reply one gets when making a request), and personable. The rooms are well appointed and QUIET for a center city location. The beds are very, very comfortable.
The location can't be beat, IMHO. It is just a very short walk to the White House, less than a block to Lafayette Park. The Mall is further, but certainly within walking distance. If one doesn't want to walk to DC's attractions, a Metro stop is very close by, and one can easily navigate almost anywhere in DC using the subway.
This is an excellent choice for lodging when visiting Washington!

We stayed in the Sofitel Lafayette square in the heart of DC for 2 nights on our Honeymoon. We selected the romance package which gave us two small bottles of Moet Champagne and complementary breakfast in our room. The Champaign was only on arrival, chilled in an ice bucket in our room but the breakfast was both mornings. It was a mix of hot and cold breakfast and was lovely.

The room was not as big as I had hoped, being slightly smaller then the average 500 square feet in the states. It was however a lovely room and bathroom.

The hotel is luxuriously appointed with a French feel that is bolstered by the French speaking staff, including the porters and doormen.

The location of this 5 star hotel makes an excellent choice people that want to stay in the heart of DC and see all that it has to offer. The Whitehouse is a 5 min walk away and we were luck to see Marine One, the Presidents Helicopter coming in to land and then take off.

The staff at the hotel are ultra courteous and very slick, maybe to slick for my liking but that’s the nature of the hotel, very "flash".

I used the valet parking for the Chevy Camaro that we had and they were very efficient in my opinion, the car on average took only about 10 minutes to be bought around.

My only problem with the hotel is that when I booked online the price I was quoted included all taxes. When I checked out it was more and was charged the taxes.

One word of warning for anyone travelling in the USA, when you book and or check in, ask what are the local fee's, charges, taxes and also what are the hotels fee's and charges as this will save you a massive surprise at check oy as we found with other hotels on our trip.

I have not chased up the problem with the taxes with the Sofitel and I will not as I now have no proof what the original quote was. My advice to you is take a screen shot of the booking screen or if you get an email with the quote, KEEP IT.

Would I stay here again, no, why, its nice for a honeymoon but not for general travel in my opinion. If you want some romance and flash hotel then by all means stay at the the Sofitel in Lafayette square.

Surprised to be greeted by a lovely French lady at check-in. The hotel is well appointed with a mix of French taste and American Style, a perfect fit for the French Designed City of Washington. The Location is absolutely fantastic, 1 minute walk to the front of the white house and a little bit further and you have access to the mall and the monuments.

Stayed here for 4 nights for a holiday. Great location. After flying into IAD, it's a short trip on the Washington Flyer then Metro to the hotel. Given a higher floor and corner room. Room size was ok, and had the same amenities of other Sofitels.

Didn't eat dinner at the hotel (there's a great Five Guys round the corner if you want something cheap and quick) but breakfast was well done and worth trying at least once when there.

My biggest gripe is the A-club recognition (or lack of it). You have to ask for everything. No upgrade as I was told hotel was full. Had to ask for a drink voucher. Received a voice mail the next day saying the hotel was full so they put me in a high floor corner room, of the type I'd paid for, but that was what the front desk staff should have said. Not just "we're full". Asked for a late check out, told I could have till 1pm, until I reminded them of my status again.

Location is great for sightseeing, with the White House just down the road, and everything else so close.

If you want a drink though, pop to the Hay Adams bar, "off the record". Great cocktails and service. (and free wifi!)

Thank you for choosing the Sofitel for your visit to Washington D.C., and for your loyalty to the Accor brands worldwide. I am thrilled to know you were able to take advantage of our location, in the heart of downtown, and that you also enjoyed your breakfast experience. Our Executive Chef, Franck Loquet, has created a special a la carte menu for breakfast, including complimentary viennoiserie, our bread ritual including homemade croissants, pain chocolate and pain raisin.

We place great importance on our loyalty program, and do our best to accommodate for complimentary upgrades and late check outs for our AClub members, both of which are based upon availability. The loyalty program is a great way to accrue points towards future stays, and can also be combined with many air miles programs. We hope for the opportunity to welcome you back again soon.

Truly,
Anna Chaley Croll

My wife and I have stayed here twice. The most recent time, we again enjoyed the exceptional service of this hotel. It is in good location of D.C., and seems on evenings near the weekend to have a very trendy vibe, with a high caliber clientele frequenting the bar and restaurant nearby.

I was slightly disappointed that we booked a "Luxury Room" and must have been given the smallest room available. It was extremely small definitely smaller than the size advertised. It really should have been reserved for single travellers. It was quite a squeeze for the two of us and our suitcases, but we managed and still very much enjoyed the hotel.

The hotel service was outstanding - just a bit slow sometimes for breakfast in the restaurant (desparate for caffeine we tried to place an order for an espresso with the person who guided us to our table, only to be told she does not take the orders (très française!) and had to wait 5 minutes for our server to appear while the lady who sat us could clearly see us waiting). The lack of free wifi nor participation in a roaming plan we use such as iPass was an expensive disappointment for us as well. For the price, I would have expected this.

Overall, this is a very nice hotel. Staff was efficient, room and hotel was very clean. Noise insulation was very good as well. The bed was extremely comfortable, the bathroom was well appointed and the room service quality was very nice. Only complaints are as follows:
1. No free Wifi
2. Access panels in bathroom ceiling (presumably for the HVAC) were a bit beat up and worn.

Location is very central, two blocks to the metro and an easy walk to all the main attractions.
