Sofitel is known as a terrific chain, and their DC location is a jewel. We're locals, but splurged on a night on the town at the DC Sofitel to celebrate the wife' birthday (happens to be on Christmas). Despite the holiday, service was outstanding; a beautiful dessert platter awaited us, welcoming my wife and celebrating her birthday. Breakfast the next morning included a champagne and dessert on the house, as the celebration continued.

Locationwise, it cannot be beaten. Just a few steps from the White House and the Mall, it's in a great spot for tourists eager to experience DC.

And the rooms! More like a suite, with a small entrance lobby, a sitting area with ample light and comfy armchairs, a wonderful king bed with A-1 linens and bedding, a fabulous shower, separate tub and tiled bathroom. Comfy bathrobes, plush towels. When a hotel puts a BOSE player next to the bed (easy to plug in your IPod or use the CD player), you know they have not scrimped in any way. A large flat screen TV with all of the premium channels is there. Decorations were lovely, from the wall prints to the special glasses and pitchers provided.

And light, light, light from the windows, showing beautiful views of the city.

The staff was wonderful and helpful. Highly, highly recommended.

Room Tip: Ask for a room facing the mall

Location is seriously fab. Hotel is great, the room was a bit small, but you are paying for location. It feels like an older Ritz property or something similar. The building has been redone, but redone well. The staff are really great, very well spoken, very very helpful and many of them have foreign accents which gives you a feeling that everyone is not from here. I like the vibe. The downstairs restaurant is always busy, every night of the week. Even the kids said "there is a party here every night." It is not a party hotel tho, just always people around. We would stay here again. If you are looking for a room with a view, make sure you ask. Some of the rooms face the interior (our junior suite did). There are rooms with a view down to the street but we did not upgrade, we didn't even notice anyway however, if that is important to you make sure you ask.

Room Tip: If you are looking for a room with a view, make sure you ask. Some of the rooms face the interior (o...

Stayed at the Sofitel over Thanksgiving with my wife and daughter. Reached the hotel after a long drive and it was raining, was glad to encounter superb service at the reception who proceeded to send up cookies and milk for my daughter.

Room was clean and had many amenities. Love the attention to details where the hotel even provided a bathrobe for my daughter as well as lotion, soap and a little ducky toy for her.

Had thanksgiving dinner at their restaurant which was superb. Service was excellent and food was great. They cooked Brussels sprouts so well that now I love eating them when I used to hate them.

Well done Sofitel.

The Sofitel is not the biggest or the best hotel in Washington. It does not pretend to be. It is wonderfully located not far from the White house. It is gracefully fitted out.
What was superb were the staff in particular Jean Paul. He was such an integral part of the Sofitel experience. Other staff were great too. My family felt so welcome as soon as we entered. We were sad to leave.
Would definitely recommend the Sofitel experience

Room Tip: Front rooms would offer view. Side rooms on one side very close to offices next door

I often travel to Washington for business. Every time I stay at the DC Sofitel I am impressed. The staff is always friendly, professional and goes out of their way to make you feel welcome. This is across the entire staff - from hotel management to check-in staff to the doormen. If there is ever a preference that you have, they note it for next time and are proactive in accommodating that preference. The rooms are very comfortable and the entire hotel has a wonderful feel. I have stayed at many hotels in many different cities for business and this property stands out as my favorite and the one I most look forward to coming back to.

This hotel is fantastically situated in the centre of Washington. The room was clean tidy and tidy and the staff were all friendly and extremely helpful?

The only slight down side was the lack of tea and coffee making facilities within the room although it was offered free in the mornings in the restaurant area.
