I am going to give a through review because so often I rely on these reviews when choosing a hotel. Our main criteria in looking for a hotel in DC was location and cleanliness (yes I'm the one who checks mattresses for bed bugs). We travel on a budget but the one area we will pay more for is a clean hotel with excellent service, the Sofitel has both.
Arrival: we had an early flight (arrived on a Saturday into DCA which was about 10-15 mins from the hotel, I highly recommend not renting a car as the taxi ride to the Sofitel was only $14.00 with tip). Upon check-in around 9:00 am we were told an interior room was ready but not the city view we booked, we knew we were very early and opted to wait until ours was ready. The nice girl at the reception desk offered to call once our room was ready. After stopping at the concierge desk we decided to get started right away on our sightseeing. The hotel gladly stored our luggage and I wasn't nervous at all about leaving it, very secure. Off we went to the Whie House very very close! We also made it to the American History Museum with the help of a very good map provided by the concierge. Around 1ish,we were called to tell us our room was ready. After easily retrieving our luggage we made our way to the 8th floor room, walked in a were very happy we elected a Luxury King instead of a Superior King, as our daughter was traveling with us and we needed a rollaway bed, it would be a tight fit in the luxury room definitely wouldn't fit in the superior room. About 10 mins of being in the room we started to relax (having gotten up at 3 am) and we heard some rambunctious little ones next door, knowing how much we spent for "deluxe" accommodations I called to see if we could be switched. The process couldn't have been easier! A Bellman met us at our room and took us to the new room which was a tad bit bigger, I believe because it was an end room it would accommodate a rollaway much more easily. We were given room 702 7th floor overlooking the street and across from the offices that hold The American Bar Association. Was a little nervous that the music in the meeting area downstairs (music festival going on) would be disturbing but we didn't hear a thing! After resting we wanted to go somewhere budget friendly and casual (looks like the restaurants close are pricey) we asked the concierge her thoughts and she suggested a restaurant in Georgetown, I didn't really want to try to figure out the metro to get there so we opted to check our phones and picked a Bertuccis Chain Restaurant as we were not feeling adventurous and we thought it be more budget friendly! UNFORTUNATELY my feet didn't appreciate the far walk and we elected to pay $6.00 for the ride back to the Sofitel.

Time to comment on the Bellman, they were all fantastic and as soon as they recognized us they were so quick to say hello, how was your evening that we looked forward to seeing them when we left in the am and came back in the pm.

Second day highlights: free morning coffee and different herbal teas in the lounge was nice to start the day but no where to reasonably eat, the hotel's restaurant was way too expensive. Spent the whole day sightseeing hiding the hop on/hop off Old Town Trolley which stops at 5pm so we ate dinner and decided to walk from Fords theater area back to hotel looong walk after being out for 10 hrs. We get back to the Sofitel looking pretty haggard and the Bellman ran and got us 3 ice cold waters, l couldn't describe how happy he made us with this one simple gesture. Felt like we won the lottery after being so hot!

Third day was a Monday and yes a big difference in the amount of people and traffic! The good news is the little deli in front of the American Bar Building was open for breakfast, much more reasonable choice for egg sandwiches etc, they even had fruit choices bananas yogurt etc. Spent the whole day sightseeing again, ate some dinner and really looked forward to going back to the Sofitel for relaxation in the comfortable clean room.

Some things noted by others that we saw too, had to call for more towels, another luggage rack there was no storage dresser to unpack & we needed another pillow. Quick service bringing all the extras including the rollaway bed. My daughter enjoyed the robes and my hub and I enjoyed the slippers after a long day of foot torture. I don't think we ever had turn down service, probably because we never were in the hotel after we left in the early am and came back later in the evening. We were told the mini bar was very sensitive and we could request to have it emptied to use as a regular fridge but we didn't. The one thing I wish they told us was the water in the room was complimentary would have saved us a trip to CVS. They did replenish our toiletries daily too.

Suggestions: you can walk a great portion of the attractions White House, National Mall, Smithsonians etc but sometimes your feet hate you for it, buy the trolley pass and you can see the sights as you drive by LOL. Most of the taxis we took were around $5/6 dollar to all local sights.
Checking out was a breeze on Tuesday and once again the Bellman didn't disappoint, we were in the taxi on the way to the airport in minutes. The taxi ride took a little longer Tues vs Sat traffic but still only cost $20.00 to the airport.

Overall if you are concerned about space book the larger room also ask for a corner end room much quieter! Location, Location, Location, and clean! Don't hesitate to ask for what you want it is done timely and with a smile.

Worth the money for peace of mind (no creepy crawlers) and felt safe. Also had a nice personable feel.

Room Tip: Don't book a superior room, very small and no Windows will not fit a rollaway bed. Book a deluxe room. 702 on 7th floor was quiet & fit rollaway bed nicely.

Hotel is located a block away from the White House. Great for walking to National Mall. Service is spot on! We traveled with a 3yr old and they brought up a bed for her which worked great. She always was treated like a princess by the staff. Nice little sandwich shop across the street for breakfast/lunch that doesn't cost an arm and a leg. Would definitely stay there again!!

The service was outstanding. We were made to feel very special on our honeymoon in dc. Our room was very clean with a beautiful, spacious bath. The bed was comfortable. The nightly turn down service and returning to our room with beautiful music playing and curtains closed was a nice treat. Looking forward to our next stay with Sofitel.

Everything about this hotel is great, the rooms the staff the concierge .the bar downstairs( that's a lot of fun) I agree with one of the other reviewers this is a hotel you don't want to rush out of. The location wow,its within walking distance to some excellent restaurants, one I recommend which my husband and I is within a block ,turn left outside the main entrance and cross the street there is a great Italian named "Siroc"Yum... delicious food..
There isn't anything bad to say about this hotel. Oh there are rooms with no windows so if your a bit claustrophobic make sure you ask for a room with a window...

Room Tip: Ask for a room with a window..

We stayed here over the Christmas holiday 2013. This is a beautiful hotel, very conveniently located. We walked everywhere. The rooms were immaculate and attractive. The do have an open shower concept where the bathroom doors are two doors that open outward. I didn't mind it. It was a gorgeous bathroom. We didn't use any of the services and we didn't eat at the restaurant. There were just two or three annoying issues: the bellhop was supposed to bring us a second luggage rack, which he never did. Next time I will not leave such a big tip unless they do what they're supposed to do. Also, the first maid was excellent, the second didn't bring any water. You have to let the hotel know if you want early room clean-up, otherwise you can come back to hotel at 4pm and the room is still a mess. We had a couple of issues with the valets. Wrong car, waited too long, not a big deal but a little annoying especially because we had dinner reservations. But they were very nice young men, so it was hard to get upset with them. The staff at the front desk was great. Overall, it was a great stay and we would definitely return.
