We spent 3 nights at the Hotel in mid July and had a superb time. Rooms are of a good size, well appointed and provide the usual Sofitel levels of comfort. The Bar and Restaurant offer good quality food and beverages and the staff provide an excellent level of service. The Hotel is well situated being close to major attractions and the concierge is happy to book and provide concise information on local attractions and trips. If I have one criticism, it is the way that the Group block and reserve payment against ones credit card as this is often confusing and makes little sense to me but seems to add up in the end? However, one minor criticism should not overshadow what was a splendid few days with the Sofitel Washington.

Out of the 5 cities and 5 hotels I stayed at, this was my favourite hotel.

We caught the train into Union Station, and the can ride was about 10 minutes to the hotel.

Upon arrival we were greeted by the lovely doormen, and checking in was a breeze.

We got a Luxury King on the 10th floor (Room 1022) and it was very spacious.

There was no coffee machine in the room, however there is complimentary coffee & tea downstairs.

It's a quiet hotel, which means the receptionist and concierge were always available to help.

The location is very nice. You can feel safe walking around there late at night. It's a 5 minute walk from the White House if you want to see that. But in my opinion, you shouldn't worry too much about location in DC. There is a lot to see and a lot to cover, so walking everywhere would be tough. So my recommendation is to stay somewhere downtown and get on a 'Hop on, hop off' bus tour as they'll pretty much cover everything.

That being said, DC was the perfect hotel for me. It's downtown and not too far from everything. Would definitely recommend this hotel to someone.

The Sofitel brand continues to celebrate its French heritage with menu items, signage in French and other European touches. We were here for one night and its location right by the White House and the Mall are perfectly suited to both business and leisure travelers. We ate at Le Bar where prices are less expensive and were glad they had interesting drinks for our 11 year old as well.

It turns out that FC Inter Milan were also staying here and that added a nice bonus for us.

We stayed in a luxury king room. It was very clean, updated, and all the necessary amenities. we had a nice view of 15th street. The hallways in the hotel are remarkably bright and well designed. A nice respite from drab and dingy hallways.

The Sofitel DC is located near Lafayette Square just a few blocks from the White House. It is very centrally located within Washington and has convenient access to the Metro system a half block away. There are excellent restaurants very near, including the ICI restaurant in the Sofitel and Bobby Van's Steakhouse just across the street. In addition, there is a CVS across Lafayette Square in case you forget any sundries or want to grab something to read or snacks. It's central location also means a steady stream of cabs and, if you use Uber, plenty of Uber cars roaming around that one can arrive within 1 minute.

Upon arrival, the doormen open the doors and welcome you to the hotel. There is Le Bar to your left and ICI restaurant to your right. The registration desk is down the hall in front of you. The registration staff are very friendly. Be prepared to be greeted in French, which adds to the charm of the hotel.

We were lucky to get a room on the 12th (top) floor of the hotel. We had a superior king room (~370 sq. ft.). It had a very nice marble bathroom with both a shower (with rainfall shower head) and separate tub. Our room had two bathrobes and sets of slippers. The room felt spacious and the bed and bed linens were extremely comfortable. The pillows were also comfortable and provided for relaxing night's sleep.

I mentioned in my title of the review that the hotel needs updating. While the bathroom was in fairly good shape, the rest of the room was in need of some attention. The carpet was very rough, uncomfortable to the touch, and outdated (brown-yellow color). The ceiling tiles concealing the HVAC unit had some rust spots on them that clearly stood out against the white panels. The bedrooms furniture has seen its better day. There are significant scratches and nicks on the wooden furniture. One of the legs on the desk was angled and clearly had been damaged. Same was true for this round glass top rolling table (for what purpose I am not sure and contained nothing on it from the hotel) with broken and angled legs.

Another interesting feature of our room was that you opened the door directly into the bed. The room is large enough that the bed should have been placed along the back wall near the window and the desk and sitting area moved to the front where the door opened.

I don't think people stay very long here based on the size of the closet. We were staying one night and had trouble getting unpacked in the space provided. The closet was tiny! Maybe room for 4-5 dress shirts. The drawers (2) were also tiny. If you are planning a long stay, plan on living out of your suitcase, there is no room for more than a day or two of clothes to be unpacked.

My wife grew up in Europe and really appreciated the real croissants and pain au chocolat that were served with our breakfast. The room service meal, we had omelettes, was typical fare. The bread basket was the best part.

On a humorous note, my wife was going to order in French, but I noticed that to do so would cost 2% more in service charge. I am hoping it is a mistake, but the English version of their room service menu has a service charge of 18% and their French version has a service charge of 20%. Be careful what language you choose to place your order!

We got an excellent night's sleep and had a very enjoyable morning. The hotel was quiet and we weren't disturbed by any loud noises from a neighboring room or from the hallway. The staff is very friendly and the location can't be beat, especially if you want to walk around and use the Metro to see DC.

Sofitel is a well known European brand that has select locations in North America. I booked us a luxury king, and surprised to see our room was located on the second floor. There was a large window, the bed was comfortable, the room wasn't large, the bath amenities however were a great size! The room was nice but not outstanding. The location is great, walking distance to all the sights, shops and parks. Outside patios for le bar and ici (lounge and restaurant) nice in the summer. Service tries hard, lounge service was spotty: we had to ask for menus and to order but front desk were very helpful.

My husband and I stayed 4 nights here, had an upgrade to luxury king, however the room was quite small, more so due to the huge furniture which were very classy. I asked the front desk for a larger room but non was available as the rooms were sold out, however they promised me a larger room next day. Next morning I asked Emilyat front desk who extremely friendly & helpful if I could view the room first which was not possible as the guests had not checked out, however she showed me the similar room at a lower floor which was alot more spacious. The room we which moved to was bright with large windows, on 10th floor on the corner of the building with nice view of the streets. The traffic can be noisy, however it quitened down at night. The sweet potato fries served at the bar was excellent. There were complimentary coffee and teas available at the bar. every morning. Across the street is the T-mobile shop which is very convenient to purchase internet package. The location is excellent, within walking distances to white house, war memorial etc.. The hotel rate is high on early weekda, i.e Monday to Wednesday, and down to almost half on weekends, still we would recommend it.

Room Tip: higher floors with city views, rooms with numbers ending with 14 are very spacious & sunny

The hotel is situated just a block away from White House, so we passed it and walked to it at all times of day and night !!!!Located near to all the sites , depends on how much you are ready to walk and the weather!!! The rooms are spacious , staff friendly and concierge helpful from sight seeing, restaurant recommendation to a beauty parlour booking. Breakfast was not included but there are enough breakfast joints around from Starbucks to a basic deli to at nice breakfast place two blocks away! For stay in Washington very very convenient.

Room Tip: Ask for a room over looking National Monument !!!
