“Great location”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 12 April 2009

Came to DC for the Cherry Festival and my sister and I wanted to stay at a hotel we would feel safe walking at night. Georgetown Suites was perfect for us. In less than a quarter of a block we were in the middle of M Street with its many restaurants and shops. The lobby could use a sprucing up, but the rooms were clean and comfortable and the staff was friendly and courteous. Our room faced the courtyard and it was VERY quiet at night. We took the red eye and the hotel was able to check us in early (about 7 am). It was nice to have a complimentary breakfast available to us. The Circulator bus was very convenient (only 50 cents for seniors) and the Georgetown Connector (between Rosslyn and Dupont Metro stations costs only 25 cents for seniors. We went to a performance at the Kennedy Peforming Arts Ctr and walked via the path by the river (easy walk). Also a plus for us were the two sinks in our bathroom - made it easy for us to get ready in the morning. The negatives: my husband had a hard time trying to leave a mesage because their phone message system wasn't working. We requested a wake up call but never received it.

We chose this hotel mainly because of the location and the reasonable price for a hotel in Washington. And on those two counts it definitely delivered. Good access to tourist sites and great restaurants around the corner. Wonderful atmosphere in this part of the city whether you walk along the historic canal or on the M street with bustling city life! For that reason I'd recommend it - with some qualifiers as the hotel itself was slightly disappointing though still acceptable.

Tavelling with our two teenaged kids we prefer suites with a seperate bedroom. However, when we arrived at Georgetown Suites we were placed in a "junior suite" with two doubles in one room. The hotel was fully booked that night and no change was possible. But for the following 3 nights we got a one-bedroom suite with a king bed and a sofa-bed in the living area. Lots of space which we liked even if the decor seemed a bit dated. However the kids complained that this was the worst sofa-bed they've ever slept in and in dire need for replacement.

Moreover, while the beds (the doubles the first night, the king the following nights) were furnished with warm duvets the pull-out had only a single thin blanket. We asked for a comforter but were told that their policy is not to give one out for pull-out beds. They did give us a second blanket but this was a pretty cold week and the kids still felt cold during the night. Didn't help that the the noisy heating-cooling system was difficult to regulate. Not to mention that all other hotels (3* in NY and Philadelphia and cheaper!) we stayed during this vacation actually gave us two seperate duvets on request for the kids so they wouldn't have to fight over the cover during the night.

Breakfast was ok - if you managed to get to the buffet in time before the crowds had emptied it. During the week this small area got very crowded with business travellers and all the healthy choices (fruit, fruit salad, yoghurt) were gone and not replaced. One morning I asked specifically for replacement: they brought a handful of oranges (great!) some inedible green bananas but no salad. Tables were not cleaned after guests had finished their breakfast and the next group wanted to use them. Guests are expected to clear their own dishes (which I don't mind doing) but with trash containers overflowing and not taken care of that was not easy to do.. On less busy days breakfast was a much better experience.

Very large rooms and the price is reasonable for the area. The rooms have a nice big desk for working and free internet access. For business travel this is a big plus. The rooms have a small kitchen. The decor is a little dates (circa 1980) but the rooms are big and bright and very clean. My room was next to the highway so the outside noise was noticable but did not ruin the stay.

They do serve a free breakfast but I would say you should skip it if you can. Mostly cold cereal, old rolls, and bad coffee.

We got stuck in DC for an extra week with a small child after he was diagnosed with chicken pox, and really wanted a self-catering apartment so we could entertain him during the day and have some time on our own at night (rather than just sitting in the dark in a small hotel room). So we were looking for a 1 bed apartment.
Georgetown Suites was perfect. It was in a fabulous location and the rooms were exactly what we needed. It was a little rough around the edges- the furnishings were a little old fashioned, the dishwasher looked like it was one of the first models ever made, and the gym was ultimately 5 machines in a closed room deep in the basement of the building. But the good thing about this was that the emphasis was on functionality rather than presentation, and you didn't feel you were paying extra for something you didn't need. The value was excellent compared to the other places we were looking at, especially when combined with free wifi (although patchy at times) and a fabulous continental breakfast. And the service was great- they cleaned the rooms and our dishes, and even came up to pick the lock when our 2 year old locked himself in the bathroom!
Overall a great stay, would definitely highly recommend it.

Don't believe the naysayers. We were thrilled by the size and cleanliness of our suite. Every day, the housekeepers returned our room to sparkling brilliance. The underground parking was very reasonable. The location couldn't be better: Georgetown shopping, Circulator Bus stop nearby, Foggy Metro walkable. The staff was friendly and helpful. And the breakfast nourishing and included in the affordable price.

The Priceline price was definitely right, and we got what we paid for. The hotel is beautifully located off M Street in Georgetown, couldn't be better. Our room was way off the street, very quiet, and also spacious, as we were working (editing film) in the room. Since we prefer our own cooking and were there all day, it was great to have a kitchen. Also I liked that they had good linens, a nice white duvet cover, nice towels. AND the windows actually OPEN.

On the downside, it appears the new-ish hotel was cheaply built and is quickly wearing out. The appliances were the tackiest. The dishwasher did not work--spritzed the dishes, did not clean them. The dishes we were given were dirty for that reason. We had an engineer come up, but because we were working, could not do more. Also the heating system is defeaning, forced air that roars on an off, would waken all but the soundest sleeper.

Also a faint smell of old cigarette smoke--most might not notice but I did.

Even so, because of the advantages listed above, I would not be adverse to staying there again.

Excellent location for Greogetown, and easy transport into Washington. Use the Circulator bus for easy transport.
Suites are well fitted for doing you own cooking, but Georgetown has plenty of eating places to suit all tastes and all wallets.
For any supplies for selfcatering, a short walk to the Safeway supermarket in the Watergate complex will do.
