“LOVE the convenience”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 7 February 2014

I've stayed at this hotel twice and have loved it each time. It's in the middle of the Chinatown area of DC and we love staying here because it's right across the street from Verizon center, so the convenience is HUGE in my book. We can walk to Churchkey and other restaurants and bars we love frequenting. The rooms are small; but, beautiful and clean. The hotel staff and bartenders are really friendly and helpful. I'd DEFINITELY recommend this place to those wanting to stay in DC!

We love that you know your way around the neighborhood Sabrina S and we definitely can't wait till you come back. As Churchkey fans - you'll be delighted to know that Poste has upped it's tap program significantly. Come by, enjoy. repeat.
Many thanks!

We began staying at the Hotel Monaco in DC about 4-years ago. We found a good deal online, we were going to a concert at the Verizon Center and thought let's just give this place a try...needless to say, we have stayed there ever since...a couple weeks ago we took our adult childrent to dinner and DC and treated them all to a room, too. They will now be staying at the Monaco anytime they are in DC! The hotel is clean, the staff is always friendly, helpful and curtious AND drinks at the Poste are GREAT!

Room Tip: I prefer a higher floor as opposed to the "basement".

Stayed one night in this DC original post office, beautiful renovated into a gorgeous hotel. Very close to great places to eat, across the street from a few museums, and within easy walking distance from the national mall and all those museums/places.

We booked during a weekend special where there was champagne and chocolates from a local chocolatier waiting in our room. The chocolates were SO good, we walked the 2 blocks to the shop to buy more! The box we received as the hotel gift was valued at $20, plus the champagne?! I was so impressed.

We booked the basic queen room. It was small but beautiful with huge vaulted ceilings and a beautiful little bathroom with a spacious shower with glass door. 4 people could shower in there if there were enough shower heads. Gorgeous, loved it! One con...though the door was definitely shut, water leaked terribly onto the bathroom floor and we had to soak it up with towels. I informed the front desk on our way out and he said it was an issue they were brainstorming to resolve in many rooms. The bed was a bit soft for our taste, but everything was beautiful and the amenities were great. I did not know this hotel was pet-friendly. I did not notice this on their website, and in my online reservation there was no space to indicate if I was bringing a pet. If I knew this when booking, I would be discouraged. But everything about our room was clean - I wouldn't have known except I heard a dog barking from the hallway.

Didn't know til I got there, but LOVED their Eco promise and offer to clientele...if you pass on having your room cleaned each day, you get a $5 credit at the hotel restaurant, Poste (acclaimed). I thought that was SO impressive; never seen a hotel offer an incentive like that.

We Loved this hotel!

Room Tip: A ground floor room is easily accessible and is well off the lobby area; quiet.

This hotel really is unique. The rooms are spacious and as with all Kimpton hotels, it has many amenities. We enjoyed the happy hour and got to know other guests. We were right across the street from the Verizon center, and within walking distance of the restaurant we had dinner plans at. There were a number of other restaurants and nightlife nearby, but because of the hotel's structure, we did not hear any outside noise!
I would definitely stay at Hotel Monaco again.

Love the location and the staff. Tiny rooms for the price. Love the happy hour, and the restaurant is wonderful. You need an entrance that has a ramp or less steep stairs. I was with someone who could barely get into the bldg. due to surgery. What about disabled/older people?

Room Tip: Make sure you get above level 2

Green Features: Easy to recycle in the room; not so much in public areas.

I love that you loved so many things about the Monaco LAT46, our stately Monaco is on the National Historic Register, which really limits the things we can do with ramps and stairs though. For your next visit - there is a ramp at the Poste Courtyard entrance, and the added bonus of Chef Marron's great food and drinks while you're there!

I've always had a nice stay and enjoy the location of the Monaco. It's a terrific hotel, with great service. I've stayed several times and had a wide range of room types. If you get a big room, they are terrific for a DC hotel and it really enhances the stay.

Our 3-night stay was delightful. Everyone on staff goes the extra mile to make your experience easy, fun and memorable. The hotel is gorgeous inside and out with spacious, comfortable, luxe lobby and accommodations. The neighborhood is close to everything - restaurants, sights, the E Street Cinema (a favorite), and right cross the street from the National Portrait Gallery (just go!). We wanted to locate near the Harmon Center (1 block away) and chose the Monaco because the hotel partners with the Shakespeare Theatre Company. Saw their production of A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum. What a treat! Glad we stayed at the Monaco. Love the Kimpton Hotels, and this one is a standout. We'll definitely be back!

Green Features: Kimptons always focus on recycling and energy efficiency. It's one of the reasons we stay with them.

We love that you enjoyed your stay so much with us Maryellen C. The location here in Penn Quarter, with all the theaters (and you mentioned a few of the best!) is really second to none!

Portrait Gallery really is amazing, as is the Harmon and Shakespeare does such a great job with all of their productions, they are great neighbors to have.

Of course, as you say, the staff is what makes the experience and I'm glad that we made you feel that it was easy, fun and memorable.

Come back again soon - we'd love an encore performance!
