I drove an hour to get to this hotel which I had a reservation for and they tell me that we are over sold and we will pay for you to stay at the Holiday Inn that was cheaper and so not my taste at all! Thank goodness the people at the Holiday were sweet even though the room sucked, but Melrose made my first trip to Georgetown a disaster! Check in at 3pm or they will give your room away!

Thank you for staying with us here at the Melrose Georgetown Hotel for your recent travels to the Georgetown area. I sincerely apologize that your room was unavailable upon your arrival, I can understand how disconcerting that can be. Unfortunately we had guests already in-house who decided to stay over causing the hotel to become oversold. It is our policy to find the nearest comparable hotel and cover the charges for the inconvenience. I hope that we have the pleasure of accommodating you on your future travels to Georgetown, please contact me directly next time your travels bring you to the area and I be more than happy to provide personalized service.

Regards,
Jale Hashimi

From the moment we arrived the doors were opened by the door men with a smile and a hello, the reception team were outstanding, cheerful helpful and could speak several languages. We asked to change room as we had booked a king and given two queen beds and they did with no problem, both rooms were amazing, big tastefully decorated a bed I didn't want to leave and a large bathroom with great toiletries (all Moulton Brown), there was an ironing board and fridge in the rooms and large TV with a great choice of channels.

The hotel is a short walk to the metro in one direction and the same up to Georgetown where there are a lot of bars and restaurants.

Happy to recommend and will be back next time i'm in DC

I've stayed at several DC hotels over the years and was very pleased with many of the aspects of this hotel. The hotel is not perfect but has nearly everything in place to reach that higher level.

The goods outweighed the negatives. The goods (and greats) included a very large room and bathroom, an extremely comfortable bed (one of the best that I've had recently); great bath amenities (though no soap in shower; only shower gel which was fine); great towels and nice design elements. Very clean room.

I did eat in the restaurant which has a great reputation for farm to table -- my salmon entree did not disappoint. However, at the later hour, there was only one server for everyone and I had to ask for bread and to have my water glass refilled (again, minor and can be addressed). My dinner of a salad at the bar the next night was overdressed.

The areas to improve: Several of the lights in my room did not work; the internet was slow; and some elements of the room looked not quite finished (as though items on a punch list were not complete). We had to get our own taxis in front; the staff was busy. The hotel would benefit from having some additional workers.

A colleague on the first floor noted that her toilet overflowed badly flooding her bathroom. She also said that there was a lot of noise late at night outside her room from nearby bars.

All in all, this is a very nice hotel and one that I would use again in the future.

Room Tip: Based on my colleague's experience, perhaps a room on a higher floor would be better.

I loved the location of this hotel as it is at the beginning of Georgetown so everything is in walking distance; shops, restaurants and most importantly, bars. If you are feeling adventurous it is also walking distance to all of the landmarks White House etc.

Room Tip: Ask for a room that is not facing the street as I had a corner room and due to the constant traffic...

This small hotel in Georgetown has so much to recommend it that my complaints are relatively petty. First the good stuff. Great location. When we shopped it was the lowest price hotel in or near Georgetown. Of course we inadvertently, due to a business meeting, were spending GW and Georgetown University graduations weekend, and everything was booked meaning prices were significantly higher than usual. Great staff. Everyone very friendly and accommodating. When their computer wouldn’t print my boarding passes, one of the managers took care of it and had them delivered to our room. Happy hour. During the week select cocktails and wines are $5. The ones we had were good and, in DC, a good value. Bed was very comfy, great pillows, everything very clean.

Complaints. No bath soap, only a tiny facial bar with bath gel in the shower. For 2 days we did not get any more soap, finally had to ask for it. We arrived late due to flight delays. We were able to order from a limited room service menu, which was ok, but couldn’t get a beer. And there were none in the room frig. TV didn’t work for first two days, system was messed up for whole hotel, but they did get it fixed. No remote control for tv in fitness center. Value was not good this particular weekend due to hotels taking advantage of big crowds for graduation weekend.

Beyond happy hour, and our late arrival room service, we did not eat or drink at the hotel due to the high prices. A Trader Joe’s grocery is a block away, a small bakery/deli is next door, several restaurants in area, and main street Georgetown 5 minutes away. There is a Washington bike share station across the corner.

I stayed there for two nights in June 2014. The other reviewers are right in saying that this is one of the best hotels in DC. By the time you arrive, you feel welcome by the staff and the reception. I had a very nice and comfortable room with plenty of space. Meals were on the pricey side but there are many options for cheaper food in the area around GWU. Try Whole Foods which is a 10 min walk from the hotel. I had dinner at the hotel once during my stay. It was expensive but the food was excellent and well prepared. I like that hotel and will go back. The hotel is nicely located near the Metro (5 min walk), and Georgetown (10-15 min walk).
