Went there for dinner on a Sunday evening – picked it because I had been to one of the chain's locations in NYC and liked it. This one's in Friendship Heights (even though at first I had the impression it was on Conn Ave as the address was Chevy Chase) just on the edge of the Friendship Heights shopping area. It's in a glass and steel office building although pretty easy to spot due to the large red neon sign, the entrance itself however does not stand out as much. The interior is quite attractive, contemporary decor, ample spacing between the tables, lighting fairly dimmed - making it quite romantic – in the glass enclosed front porch area, but more brightly lit in the back where the booth seats are. We sat in the front – even though in the evening there's not a lot of people or activity on the street to see. Seemed to be quite popular for families with small children. Noise level quite low when less than half full. We had the short ribs – Tablones, mixed grill with beef and sausage – Alambre a la Mexicana, fish tacos, plus espresso flan for dessert. Both of the meat dishes were richly flavored and delicious, the tablones in particular was so tender the meat fell apart at the touch of the fork. In comparison the fish tacos were not as remarkable – mainly I think because I prefer grilled fish to deep fried. The espresso flan was unusual, it sits on a very thin base layer of brownie base, quite tasty (however I still wished they'd offer the classic regular flan as well). Service was attentive and friendly. Price on the higher side (over $100 for the 3 of us before tip, 3 mains, 2 desserts, one drink) but a good place to go for tasty and reliable food in a comfortable and pleasant dining environment.
