“What money CAN buy!!”

JMJ This museum is a must see if you love to see how rich people live. Mrs. Post had tons of money and she spent a lot of it on art pieces and priceless pieces of history, especially Russian pre- revolution. The setting is surprisingly beautiful for the D.C. area and the gardens are magnificent! The staff is very helpful and friendly and are quick to share their passion for the mansion/museum. Take some time to relax and see this beautiful one of a kind magical place. It is a little hike off the Metra but very doable, or cab it from the Metra. The walk is also interesting because of the unique house and large university along the way. Don't miss this treasure!

“Insiders' Spot”

Marjorie Merryweather Post's beautiful home is a hidden jewel in NW DC. The beautiful grounds even have a Japanese garden. But don't miss the house tour, which includes elegantly furnished rooms and a very special collection of Russian artworks and other fine pieces, including Faberge eggs, which Ms. Post acquired through her husband's ambassadorship to Russia at the time when the Revolution was ridding itself of reminders of tsarist times. And if you are interested in China and glassware, there is an amazing collection. There is even a Russian Dascha on the property as well as a collection of Native American art.

“The rich certainly knew how to live”
Reviewed 15 February 2012

Hillwood is an extraordinary place to spend an afternoon. The mansion and it's collections are formidable but for me, it's the land. The property and it's incredible location is the best in Washington. Sit on a bench and look out at Washington and one can only think what it must have been like in it's heyday.

“Elegance”

That sums up the exhibits. Excellent rainy day if you are to be inside the museum. Not good for handicap. Need a good sunny day for the grounds. The restaurant is a bit on pricey side but convenient.
