MS Post was before her time in terms of travel and international relations.

This is a little known gem to see in Washington. Somewhat hard to find and not near Metro, but well worth the time to visit. M. M. Post has a wonderful collection of Russian and French treasures. Guides are very good. Nice cafe on grounds for lunch. Plan to spend at least half day.

What a fascinating life and legacy. Well cared for and loved by the knowledgeable staff. The web site describes it much better than I can but well worth the trip.

We did not have a car so took the Metro and walked a mile to get there.

Spring had not fully sprung when we visited the home of Marjorie Merriweather Post, located near Rock Creek Park, at the end of February, but my husband and I enjoyed a fascinating tour of the estate and some of the outlying buildings. The introductory film, which is the same as the one on the website, set the stage for an exploration of this gracious home filled with an incredible collection of Russian art. Our docent guide was most knowledgeable and continued to answer questions well past the designated tour length of an hour. Although you can tour the house with an audio tour, we very much appreciated the personalization the guide brought to the experience. We are planning a trip on a Russian River Cruise in late spring and found this experience a perfect entrance into our upcoming trip. The jewels, fine dishes, art work, etc. were all incredible. Lunch in the small cafe was tasty and nicely presented. I am hoping to return in a warmer season since the grounds look to be beautifully maintained and intriguing to visit. We did take a quick walk through the orchid house. Parking is ample and free. Changing exhibits also tempt one with a return trip. Gift shop, though small, was filled with interesting items and books, primarily relating to Russia. All docents and employed staff at the home were extremely friendly and welcoming. truly a hidden gem!

She ahsd a great deal of money and invested it in lavish trappings and grounds. Sometimes it is the small things that are the most fun to see--an un-updated kitchen from the 50s or the permanent silver engraved do not disturb sign on her bedroom door. Do watch the movie first.
