“Nice place to have sushi. Opposite UDC Van Ness Campus.”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 3 March 2014

Have lunched there three or four times now. Every time a success. I like to order the lunchbox E menu which has a nice variation. Side order a seeweed salad and your meal is complete. The Miso soup is OK but nothing special.
Only downside is that they don't serve any wine. A nice dry white wine would be perfect with this sushi.
Service is quick, food is good. What more do you need for lunch?

“All you can eat sushi”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 25 January 2014

Best all you can eat sushi at 20$ per person near to Van Ness metro station. Quality of food is great but stuff could be more friendly.

“Quality All You Can Eat Sushi”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 28 June 2013

We have been to Sushi Para over a dozen times now and have generally been happy with the quality of the food and the service. The sushi is made to order and at $23 for all you can eat (AYCE), is a good price for the amount and quality. (There are cheaper sushi in the region at about $13 per person, but the quality and options are not as good.)

Our preferred items are the rolls, which seems to have more meat than the nigiri. Our favorites include: (A) the Palatine roll, a salmon, eel, and shrimp (all inside) roll with avocado, which comes as 5 pieces (but are about 1 1/2 inch in diameter); (B) the Chicago roll, a salmon on top and eel inside roll with tobiko and crunchy bread crumbs; and (C) the Hokkai roll, a salmon skin (inside) and salmon (on top) roll. Clearly we like salmon! Also good, however are the spider roll (soft shell crab) and the yellow tail nigiri. For those who are not big fans of raw fish, there are many options in the AYCE menu including: eel, shrimp, octopus, egg, california rolls, salmon skin, spider roll, alaska roll (crab) and philadelphia roll (smoked salmon and cream cheese). The veggie tempura, miso soup and salad are also good and comes quickly if you want something quick while waiting. Sushi orders usually come within 10-15 minutes and is served cold or hot, whichever is appropriate.

A la carte ordering is also good and is available for those who don't want the AYCE fare. We have tended to enjoy their curry (in shrimp and chicken).

As we have gone here multiple times, we found that service is best with a party of no more than 6. We usually get excellent service with 2-6 people. Beyond that, the small staff (usually about 2 chefs, 1 manager and 2-3 servers) have difficulty filling orders. This week, we held a celebration party there with a party of 14 and unfortunately, our large party sharing the restaurant with another table of 8, a table of 6, and three tables of 4 were too much for them and much to our disappointment we got the poorest service as we were struggling to get attention to put our second order in while other tables have had their third or fourth. Still, this is just a smudge to our impression of the restaurant. It is still one of our favorite sushi places and we would go back -- just not with a big group next time.

“Made-to-order, all-you-can-eat sushi!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 28 May 2013

I find this to be a great dining option in Van Ness. The all-you-can-eat sushi option is a fantastic deal especially when you consider that each piece is made to order and the deal includes a variety of appetizers, salad, soup, sushi pieces and rolls. The food is good and the price is very reasonable. I have brought my family there several times and have felt very welcomed by the staff and manager.

“outstanding sushi off the beaten path”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 24 November 2012

Across the street from Univ of DC, Sushi Para is quiet, bright, and well kept with a wide menu of sushi roll and sashimi. All you can eat is just roll and just at dinner, and you pay for what you don't eat on top of the AYCE price; so, come hungry and shy away from apps
