“It was everything we needed”
Reviewed 3 November 2013

We really loved this hotel.

It was a short stroll from the White House and National Mall, on a nice street, and catered to our needs perfectly during our 2 night stay.

The hotel is a good size; large enough to have the facilities we required while not be overly big where you get lost in masses. In other words it had a bit of a 'boutique' feel.

Our room, while a little on the small side apart from the generous bathroom, looked newly refurbished with good beds, nice crispy white linen and well insulated from the outside city noise.

The breakfast bar was acceptable and the facilities were comfortable and well appointed.

Staff were friendly and helpful. The basement laundry worked well and was reasonably priced.

There no onsite car parking facilities but the doorman does hang on to your car keys and parks the car over the road in a commercial carpark (for an additional cost).

Would we stay there again: Yes.

Room Tip: Get down early for breakfast because the seats can be limited if hotel is fully occupied.

My little boy and I were made incredibly welcome during our stay by the amazing team that run the Hampton Inn White House. This is quite a feat by a chain hotel. By way of comparison, the night before our arrival we'd stayed at the Hilton near the airport, which was totally bland and generic and where we couldn't have felt any more anonymous.

In brief, the hotel has great modern rooms, even if a little small as noted elsewhere, and above all an amazing staff and location. Booked via the Hilton website, the place represented excellent value for money, in our view, certainly compared to other major hotels in the area.

There's a little pool, an amenities shop in reception, and free coffee and tea guests can help themselves to during the day. As a journalist, it was also a rather sentimental pleasure staying in a building that was formerly a newspaper print works.

If we had to really, really be picky about any one thing, it's that the breakfast wasn't a little more healthy and made with better ingredients. But pricing is obviously a factor here and there are a ton of amazing restaurants nearby for great American breakfasts (especially Founding Farmers down the road).

As a Brit who grew up alongside USAF families in England and who has worked for US organisations, I've always had a huge soft spot for America and its people. Part of the aim of this trip was to share some of the pleasure of the country and its people with my own son.

Highlights for us included the 15 minute walk from the Hampton Inn down to the White House and then on to the Lincoln Memorial.

Searching out all the stirring mottos carved in granite into building facades was a fun game for my little guy. We particularly liked the quote on the beautiful National Archive that reads something along the lines of: "The glory and the romance of our history are here preserved, binding the lives of our people in one indivisible union" ... America does clarion calls to the human spirit so well, and staying at the Hampton Inn, it was wonderful for my son to be so close to America's political heart and to get a sense of the idealism and principles on which the US was founded.

We even paused outside the FBI building to take a photo of Flat Stanley (for his school project), half expecting to be told off, but only receiving smiles from the security guards.

Anyway, not wishing to rabbit on, we cant recommend the Hampton Inn White House highly enough. I've forgotten the names of 90% of the people who were so kind to us during our stay, and probably mis-remembered the following, but they included Alex, Jadranka and Joe. My little boy absolutely loved the two ladies originally from the Balkans who ran the front desk at night and the young lady with red hair who was doing her internship ... and how Joe remembers all his guests' names remains a mystery to us! Our stay at the Hampton Inn was central to a trip my family will always remember. Thank you for having us, and we really hope to be back again.

Green Features: Breakfast is served on polystyrene plates and with plastic cutlery that guests throw in the bin on leaving. Not really an ideal or sustainable approach to the environment.

This is a recently opened hotel and it looks it. Everything is spotless-the rooms are very clean and modern. The front desk staff are extremely friendly and helpful as are the valet staff and bell staff. Rooms are a bit small, but expected for a city hotel. Location is within walking distance to restaurants and historic sites-a good walking distance but doable nonetheless. We would definitely stay here again.

This hotel is ideally placed as it is only 1 block from the White House with the Washington Monument and Smithsonian museums a little further away. Our first room was at the back where we heard music coming from a nearby night club. We asked for and got a change of room being giving one at the front of the hotel. The room was spacious and very clean, which is what we expect from hotels in the Hilton group. Breakfast is included in the price and is more than ample for our needs. The staff were excellent and answered any queries re directions etc.

Room Tip: Ask for one at the front

Like some of the other reviewers, we had an outstanding service experience from the staff at this hotel. I travel a lot for work, subsequently staying in a lot of hotels, and I can honestly say I haven't had better service anywhere on the plant than at this hotel. It is clear they are trying to take good care of their guests. We too had to check in early and Alex made it super easy to do so. They were great with restaurant recommendations, even calling to make reservations on our behalf, which is something you don't expect from a Hampton class hotel. The hotel location is terrific, so close to the train station and White House. Next time we're in DC, we won't even think of staying someplace else.

The staff at this hotel was phenomenal. We arrived just a couple of minutes after 10 a.m., which is when the breakfast bar closes. The ladies closing up overheard us telling the desk clerk we were disappointed that we'd missed it. They immediately waved us over and guided us through, helping us make selections and making us feel especially welcome. Over the next three days we had several encounters with the desk staff who were always very accommodating, professional, and pleasant. Ditto the guys handling valet parking out front. Even though we didn't have a car, they always greeted us when arriving or departing. While we didn't see the housekeeping staff, we appreciated their service. The room was clean, attractive, and very comfortable. Did I mention the food was good? The location was great - just one block from the Farragut West Metro station and close to nice restaurants too. We would recommend this hotel highly and would definitely stay there again if we ever return to D.C.

Green Features: We were pleasantly surprised to see the waste baskets in the rooms had a divider to separate recyclables from trash.
