“A Great Hampton”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 4 July 2014

Hampton Inns are a great chain for value, however this property exceeds many standards you might find in an upscale Hilton hotel. The lobby is cool and chic and the hallways smelled oh so fresh and the room was uber clean and fresh. I will definitely return!!!!

We stayed June 18 thru June 23 2014 and had a really great time. Jadranka at the reception desk was wonderful, arranged some breakfast for us on arrival (red eye flight) even though breakfast had finished 10 minutes earlier. We found ALL the staff to be very friendly and helpful, breakfast was outstanding everyday and various hot and cold drinks are available in reception all day. The room was first class with NO street noise, our room located towards back of the hotel. Internet access was free from computers in a small office, a small bright pool is located in the basement as well as some exercise equipment. AC worked well.

We had a wonderful stay and will certainly stay here again on our next trip to DC.

Room Tip: Rooms at the back of the hotel have no street noise.

My family of three stayed at this hotel for a quick three day, two night visit. We arrived by car late (midnight), and although one might expect under-par service, the attention we received was excellent. We phoned in advance saying that we would be arriving later than expected (didn't want our room to be given away), and the front desk person assured us that our room would be waiting for us. A friendly valet met us outside and unloaded our luggage from our car, loaded it onto a cart that he took to our room and unloaded, as well. The front desk clerk was friendly and efficient in getting us checked in...took maybe 3 minutes. FYI: self-parking is not available, valet only at a $35 per night fee. The room (two queen bed) was clean and fresh smelling, no artificial scents, just looked and smelled clean. The room was tastefully decorated with contemporary furnishings. There was a flat screen tv (36"?) on a dresser, a desk with a telephone and hook-up for a computer. There was a padded luggage bench. The room had wi-fi and plenty of electrical outlets. The room did not include a refrigerator or mini microwave, though those may be available upon request...not sure. There was a coffee maker located on the desk. The room had a small closet with an iron and board, as well as a small safe. The bathroom was clean and had plenty of towels along with complimentary bar soap and sample sized bottles of Neutrogena shampoo, conditioner, body lotion. The complimentary breakfast both mornings we stayed were typical of Hampton Inn: fresh fruit (strawberries, cantaloupe, peeled grapefruit and orange wedges, whole apples and bananas), fresh mini danishes and cranberry bread, bread for toast, waffles (you make fresh), three different kinds of cereal, fresh oatmeal with toppings...cranberry/raisin/current mix, sliced almonds, brown sugar (actually, it was sucanat), fresh hot coffee and a tea selection, yogurt, hard-boiled eggs, as well as the hot breakfast selection: an egg dish (omelet one day, scrambled with veggies another), sausage, breakfast potatoes). All delicious and fresh. The only down-side is that there are limited options for those requiring gluten free or dairy free. The hotel also offers a small convenience store and snack shop (with microwave for use), and a small business center. My family was there to visit the museums and memorials in the city, so we wanted to be near those. Although we bought tickets for the Big Bus touring bus, we were able to walk a couple of blocks to the White House. From there we were able to pick up our Big Bus line, or if we preferred, we could have taken the Metro city bus from there. There are other touring bus companies nearby, as well as bicycles for rent, or you can hire someone else to take you around in their bicycle rickshaw/pedicab. There are also plenty of taxis in the area for hire. Overall, we were very happy with our stay at this hotel and when we return to DC, we will stay here again.

Everyone was very friendly, but I have to mention Joe Gartrell. He was an amazing young man. Very outgoing and willing to help with anything. The rooms are very clean. The Free breakfast is huge....eggs, bacon, sausage, French toast sticks, waffles, breads, cereal, and fresh fruit. Thank you so much for the wonderful experience. If I ever have to go back to DC, I will, of course stay at this same hotel!!

Thank you so much....Kristin Burton

We have just spent 6 nights at the Hampton Inn Whitehouse and loved it! Everything was just perfect with the hotel itself, the room, the facilities, and the great staff. This hotel really does everything right. The room was air-conditioned (the AC could be turned off and on - it was really appreciated in the hot spell!), spacious, clean and well equipped; bedding was clean and comfortable; the wifi was free and worked well; the breakfast was fabulous with nice hot and cold items, fresh fruit etc - all served in a large bright lounge area of the foyer; the business centre was great for printing out tickets etc; and there were also lots of nice touches like free 24-hour coffee and tea, afternoon cookies, and nice Neutrogena lotion, soap and shampoo as room amenities. The hotel has a nice vibe, and the staff are so helpful and friendly. Location wise, the hotel is convenient to all the main sights which really are all walking distance. There are lots of eateries etc in the area.

If we had to name a downside, we would have to mention the street noise - and light sleepers could have a problem. Interesting that the hotel does provide ear plugs, which we didn't use. The noise probably starts around 6 in the morning...and the level and variety of sound is quite intrusive although we did start to get used to it. There was certainly no sleeping past 7am. We even had a trumpet player on the street a couple of mornings. On level 11, we thought we might be away from the noise, but it still could get quite fierce.

But apart from that, we would recommend the hotel and would stay there again. It is a bit pricey we thought, but that may just be the standard for DC!

The highlight of our visit was seeing/hearing the Naval Band playing on the Tuesday night at the Naval Memorial. Such a great experience in the open air enjoying the big sounds of such a talented band and singers. They played modern and traditional music - the Jersey Boys tribute was a standout! Don't miss it!

The other suggestion we would make to visitors - if you use the shared shuttle van service to get from Dulles airport to your DC hotel, make sure you work out with the driver what order you will be in the drop-off. Our ride took 2 hours - we the last to be dropped in town, and the driver should have dropped us when he first got into the city - instead of taking us way out into the suburbs and then returning back to the city. His response to our concern was that we should have spoken up....a bit difficult when you are a visitor and don't really know the area.

Room Tip: The traffic noise is the one real downside of this hotel...not easy to escape anywhere.

+ Great location just next to the White House and close to the metro.
+ The room was large and the bed comfortable.
+ Friendly staff.
+ A small shop in the lobby where you could buy snacks, tootbrushes, etc.
+ Coffe, tea and hot chocolate was served in the lobby, 24 hours a day.

- The breakfast could have been better.
- No fridge in the room.
- The location is good, but the surroundings are kind of boring.
- The view from our room was a brick wall.
