Description: A new 160-seat American brasserie in the heart of Penn Quarter. This is the award-winning restaurateur's eighth restaurant in the nation's Capitol and it serves American fare with French and Asian influences. The name represents nopa's location just north of Pennsylvania Avenue and it welcomes guests for lunch, dinner and Sunday brunch. The restaurant offers lively dining in the main dining room, and also offers quieter dining options and several private dining rooms.

Having gone there this past Monday and being so impressed with the quality of the food, I made it a point to go right back there three nights later (pre Paul Simon-Sting concert...a material part of this review). Firstly, the level of service by our waiter, who knew that we were going to the concert was first-rate. He made sure (and the place was as busy as they could possibly be) that our food arrived so we could get to the show on time....a material thing for an event evening. The sea bass was why I wanted to go a second time, my guest gave me a taste on Monday night. It really is a superbly prepared dish. And, pretty much everything else on the menu was really good. The octopus had a unique flavor, and the wines by the glass were of good/unique quality.

If you are looking for good quality food, with a proprietor that really cares about service, this is a good place to go....you will not go wrong. But, if you are going on an event night...make sure you let your server know, for they treat dining there as an experience (as it is), and they do a good job of letting you savor the unique and delicious flavors that they offer. Try it, you will be happy that you did.

Located near the convention center this new restaurant in Washington DC downtown is a must for locals and visitors. Creative food unparalleled atmosphere sociable bar intimate tables makes this restaurant a super enjoyable experience. We just ate at the bar and were served delightfully by Matt who is in charge both behind the counter and at the tableside. A competent mixologist and tableside server Matt made our visit one of the best we've had in the district. I rated this restaurant excellent and you will too. DJ

Before visiting this restaurant, previous night we had a very nice experience at "Rasika"' owned by the same owner. Very relaxing ambience created with great care. Nice selection of Wine and great starters to go with beverages. Marinated or herb olives is a must. The owner greeted us and he himself served us with Brussels Sprouts and did not even charged us!
I would recommend visiting this place after 7 PM. Great location....worth experiencing!

We had a weekday dinner at Nopa with friends before the ballet. (The restaurant is convenient to theaters, the Verizon Center and many other attractions.) The service was excellent - helpful and attentive without being obtrusive. All 4 of us enjoyed our meals - the steak-lover in the group thought the hangar steak was quite wonderful, 2 of us loved the sea bass & the fourth was pleased with his light dinner of an appetizer and soup.We shared desserts - inventive and tasty. A gem of a place.

Just had an excellent dinner at Nopa. What a great casual vibe combined with upmarket modern food & an excellent wine by the glass menu.

We ordered a bunch of small plates to munch on before mains arrived. Marinated olives were excellent, carrots tasted like the softed baby carrot tsimmes your grandmother could ever make, and the Brussels sprouts as said in every other review, we're excellent. Well spiced & moorish.

In a rather fishy mood, we ordered a japanese style rock cod, roasted bass, & slow cooked salmon. All were delicious. The wines were outstanding when I didn't know the taste of. French Grenache/Syrah, a small taste was promptly delivered.

Dessert was beautifully crafted, a chocolate, coconut &hazelnut concoction of deliciousness.

Our waiter was excellent and warmed up to have quite a sense of humour as the night progressed all while maintaining high levels of service.

We're in dc for 5 nights, and I think we'll be back.
