I always stop at the bar for their oysters. Fresh and tasty with a big glass of beer. Excellent ambiance, this is a place where many a political deal was made. A Washington classic.

This restaurant is very hard to get into so book ahead if you can. Ask for a booth which is the better option. Be prepared for noise as this place isn't suitable for the intimate.

Great location. Right near the White House. We did not have reservations and waited 1 1/2 hours. I think this is a slow dining experience type of restaurant, with the oyster bars and all. I had the cannelloni. Wow! Best meal ever. My husband had the crab cakes, upon recommendation from the waitress, and really enjoyed them. Good sized portions. You probably won't need to take any home, unless you also do an appetizer. We did sit in the back, which wasn't as interesting as the main restaurant, but they try to make it nice out there too, with candles and such. The tables were too close out there though. The tables were only about 2 feet apart. Overall, delicious food and great prices for the DC area.

The Old Ebbitt Grill is the classic Washington restaurant. On a Thursday night the place was packed, and without a reservation we would have had a long wait. The food is very good, and reasonably priced in light of the quality. But the service was painfully slow throughout the entire meal, which is the principal reason I only gave this an average rating.

One other negative:The restaurant gets extremely noisy, which can make conversations a challenge.

I take any chance I can get to run into Old Ebbiitt's and head straight back to the oyster bar. I almost the to give away this little secret haunt of mine. The main bar and dining rooms are always super packed, but the oyster bar is a hidden refuge.
Order the oyster stew, you will not regret it!
Hang out with the perky and friendly bartender Michael and you'll leave feeling refreshed and ready to take on the rest of your day in DC!
