A bar tender suggested this place to us, we didn't know anything about it and were blown away. The food is fabulous, we had the price fix menu and between the four of us tried most of all the dishes in 5 courses, all were unique and special. The service from bartender to waitstaff was great. This was one of the highlights ou our weekend in DC.

Great place to share tapas and drink great wine with friends. It gets crowded so a recommendation is necessary.

This is a first class Mediterranean restaurant with an interesting wine list and a range of very good small plates.

Is it really a good idea to to go to a restaurant with many different cuisines under one roof? Or, go to a specialty restaurant with one mind set on its menu? Zaytinia offers raw kibbeh nayyeh from Lebanon, souvlaki from Greece, dolmas from Turkey, couscous from Morocco, Armenian lavash bread, baba ghannouj from Syria, and on top all this there is total confusion about the names of the entrees. I am sure the waiters have to try to make painful explanations to customers not familiar with all the names like portakal, tzatziki, htipiti, pikilia, avgolemono fattouche, etc. Do we want to have a clear idea of what our dinner consists of without going through an encyclopedia of names? The customer has to understand the chef's good humor and not be turned off by his snobbish teasing attitude that confuses the ignorant by giving the dishes the camouflage of the price (BTW, the price was the only thing that was simple and understandable). The food quality is passable, but the portions are small and cute. On my last visit with a friend, I had diced cucumbers in yogurt for starters and then the lamb T-bone, and my guest had crab cake which she complained was salty. I asked for meat on the rare side, but it arrived lukewarm and medium well done. Where is the beef? Actually, I did not see that animal on their menu.
