“Holy Mole!”
Reviewed 19 September 2013

This might not be fancy plush and delicate but the food is authentic! It is even more delicious. We gorged ourselves and had to struggle to get up to leave because it was just sooooo good. Excellent on the pours too. Gonna make this a bi-weekly event and you should too.

“Since 1978 and oh! so good.”
Reviewed 13 March 2013

Mixtec has been in Adams Morgan before the area was hip. It has seen many other restaurants come and go but the authenticity of its food keep bringing old customers and new ones all the time. We have been there several times but I just realized I have not written my impressions on Mixtec: home made food with authentic ingredients. Some dishes are well known but others only the true connoisseurs of Mexican food will identify them.

The place is small but it has a large room which opens for busy Sunday brunch and large parties. It is clean and the service is prompt and courteous, the pictures of Mexican dishes suggest you to try some specialties which you may not known. Try MIXTEC and you will feel that you ate at a Mexican home. Rico!

“Near the top for Mexican food in DC”
Reviewed 21 February 2013

Mixtec is one of my top two favorite Mexican restaurants in Washington, DC. The other is Rosa Mexicana, which expanded from New York City. It is not Tex Mex, but authentic home cooked Mexican food. I have not yet discovered a Mexican restaurant as good in even Los Angeles or Chicago, which have large Mexican populations. I usually order Cheese Enchiladas with Red and Green sauce. I also love the Mexican Hot Chocolate, and Mexican Chocolate Pudding Dessert. They all taste heavenly to me. My only complaint is they don't make this dessert every day, even though it is a regular menu item.

“Adams Morgan tradition/Very Good Oaxacan Mexican Food”
Reviewed 23 January 2013

Wonderful Oaxacan mole. Very solid Mexican staples. Proprietor is extremely friendly and welcoming. Low key decor. Prices somewhat high for the setting (but not for the quality of the food). Right in the Center of Adams Morgan, near the corner of Columbia Road, 18th Street and Adams Mill. Parking can be tough in this neighborhood, so walk, take a cab, or park in the public lot about a block down on 18th Street, down an alley (very visible from the street). Good menu choices were any thing with the mouth watering mole, Seafood Veracruzana, the tortilla soup, guac, and queso fundido. Many tables enjoyed pitchers of Margaritas. Rather diverse crowd when we went.

“Pretty good Mexican food”
Reviewed 27 December 2012

Decent Mexican food. They stay loyal to authentic Mexican recipes, but quality is only okay. Plato Maya is decent (pork chops, pork taco, guacamole, refried beans, rice) but the Mexican rice served with it is mediocre at best. The tres leches is tasty, but nothing special. At $24, it's not a bargain, but not a rip-off by DC standards, and you get enough to fill you up.
