This Restaurant/tavern/pub is always full: a very good sign! Tourists and locals alike love it. It is perhaps a bit pricey, but the food (American style) is good, the service impeccable, and the atmosphere is vibrant. I'll come back here every time I'm in Georgetown.

Close to an exclusive area, the food was good, quickly served and varied. The fascination of booths with history even more fascinating

We read a lot of good reviews about Martins Tavern, but our experience wasnt great. Took our server about 10 minutes to acknowledge we were there, and thereafter he didnt actually do much other than shout back and forth with the bartender! Food was ok at best, nothing special. There are loads of great restaurants in Georgetown, so unless you specifically want to see where JFK proposed to Jackie O, I'd go elsewhere

Great location in Georgetown. Fun for DH, GU alum. DH and DS had burgers; suggest you skip the Tavern Treat, or get a crab cake instead. The TT was as if they took a can of lump crab meat, dumped it on a (soggy) English muffin, and poured hollandaise over it. Edible, but not good. Atmosphere is really nice, fun place. Definitely make a reservation!!

Sooooooo---------why is this restaurant famous ? Every U.S. President since the 1930's has dined here and Pres. Kennedy proposed to Jackie here!! The booth is even marked. The atmosphere here is so Washingtonian--dark wood, full of people who will be your friends in a matter of minutes if you sit at the bar. The bartender was fantastic--he introduced us to folks, shared champagne with us for a newly engaged couple, etc. If you like chatting with folks, this is the place. The food was absolutely delicious, prepared very nicely. We were so glad we had dinner here!!
