“Great location and service, but thai food not good.”
Reviewed 5 February 2014

Been here twice and can not say the food is very good. It is in a great location and the atmosphere is excellent. The food though is just not good. I have the pad thai chicken and it was oily and not very flavorful. The pad thai shrimp only came with two shrimp. It is a good place for parties but the food is just ok. The price of the food is what you would expect from in a thai restaurant. The food is reasonable priced.

“Honest Expressions”
Reviewed 7 January 2014

Honestly, the food is good, especially the Basil Chicken. The atmosphere is ok. The seating near the bar takes you away from the draft seating at the windows during the winter. However, the service is very hurried and inconsistent (some customers seem to be adored, followed through their courses, offered dessert, and receive hot towels after their meals while others simply do not-- I am serious). I am not even sure the waiter we had was a bonafide waiter. He seemed to know fairly little about our selections, but he was courteous. Additionally, it took almost 30 minutes for a manager to come to our table to explain the $15.00 fee they charge if a customer elects to bring their own birthday cake to the restaurant. We were celebrating our adult son's birthday. The manager on duty was on on his cell phone at the bar while we waited quite awhile for him to come to our table. It was about 8:00 PM on a Monday and we were one of only about three tables being served. There were more staff there than customers. It appeared that the manager could have come to our table sooner. The additional cake fee was fine, however the tremendous wait to receive a response about it was definitely not. When he came his response was lengthy and awkward. Maybe a nice note on the menu would suffice. I think one of Washington's nicest Thai restaurant's is showing its age, management woes and inability to keep up in their lane.

That's too bad because I really didn't mind driving 40 plus miles to go there to have a special evening with my family. Farewell Bangkok Joe's. Given the customer service, it just doesn't seem worth it anymore.

“Good for the price”
Reviewed 5 December 2013

We found this restaurant through TripAdvisor. We went on Sunday evening, it was half empty and we hadn't booked. We were seated quickly although first at a table in the centre of the restaurant which was an issue and the seats are low and we asked to move to the last free window booth. This wasn't an issue and was much better. The staff were efficient, the food came quickly. We had crispy wontons, which weren't bad, although I found the dressing on the crab and vegetable wontons, which I can only describe as seafood dressing, a little odd, and I would've like a dip for the other wontons. We were only looking for a light meal and so ordered salads. The flavour was good, and the beef tender, however for most people they would not be enough for a meal. The variety of vegetables was also very limited and I wouldn't say very Thai. It was also rather heavily dressed. The restaurant was light and airy and well laid out and was a nice environment to dine in. Overall, not bad for the price, but not the best Thai food I've eaten

“Delicious panang curry”
Reviewed 13 November 2013 credit card Amex Cardmember Review

Some of the best panang curry in DC and a great 'go to' restaurant in Georgetown which typically is wanting in restaurant options.
