This place was recommended in our guidebook. We sat in a back patio where it was really grungy. My burger was decent. My kids got chicken tenders - they were awful. It was a pre-fab breaded chicken thing that had been cut up and refried. It looked like it had been cooked two or maybe three times. Absolutely awful. My husband's salad was just okay; he felt like they had gone to the corner store and purchased it. The service was a little on the slow side which does not bother me if they are cooking my meal. Waiter was not unfriendly or friendly. It was inexpensive though, which in DC is hard to find.

came across this little pub after walking the National Mall. Tired and really needing a cold beer that didn't require a white table cloth dining experience, we found this listed on trip advisor and couldn't have been happier! great food, good service and nice quiet stop away from the hustle and bustle of the crowds.

Ordered five different burgers, some fries, and a basket of excellent onion rings for a party of four. The burgers were great, but rather fatty and thus very filling. Putting these burgers on a freshly baked bun in stead of a factory baked spunge bun would do them more justice.

This is a small pub restaurant. The food is creative and very good. The service is excellent. My husbands only complaint was the diet cola didn't taste good. We all ordered burgers and enjoyed them very much.

Lindy's--real name Lindy's Red Lion--located just four blocks up the street from the White House, was founded in 1974 and is a legendary Washington institution.

My favorite is the "Au Poivre Double Burger," cooked rare. The meat is topped with bacon and ground black peper on a six-inch soft sub roll. Even if there's a six-month absence between my visits, Dawn--the waitress and the soul of LIndy's-- always remembers me and places the order.with just a nod of the head for confirmation

There's a portrait of the late Robert F. Kennedy on the wall; the dedication reads, "The best burger I've ever eaten." What more of a recommendation do you need?

LIndy's trivia: George Washington University (GWU), which owns most of the real estate in this area, decided to build a shopping and office complex between 20th and 21st Street on Penn. But in order to realize their ambitious project, they had to convince all the owners to sell. The owners of Lindy's categorically refused, compelling GWU to wrap their building around Lindy's. Lindy's has steadfastly maintained its independence up to the present day.
