We stayed at the Residence Inn for a week during cherry blossom time. We stayed in a 2 bedroom suite.

The kitchen/restaurant staff are wonderful and so is the front desk staff. The trip would have been perfect except for one big thing. They slipped a note under our door about half way through the trip telling us they were going to clean the carpets WHILE WE STAYED THERE.

I was there with my husband, 2 children and my mother. Asking for another room in lieu of walking on wet carpet was not an option, especially during that time of year. No other room was available. In fact, no other room was available anywhere in Washington, DC.

Who would decide to clean the carpets during that week of the year? That has to be one of the biggest weeks for Washington, DC hotels. And if you had to clean the carpets, why would you do it while guests were staying in the room?

So other than walking around on wet carpet for a couple of days of our stay, it is a good place. However, we will never stay there again . . .

A large group of us stayed at Residence Inn's 2 bedroom suite. It was more than ideal for 6 per room, with a spacious living area and 2 bedrooms with 2 separate bathrooms. Beds were comfortable and the room was clean. Staff were attentive and helpful.

Location wise, it's excellent - walking distance to the Metro and many sights including the Smithsonian. Overall, this was a great, comfortable stay!

We traveled for the weekend by train from Norfolk VA and arrived at Union Station. We easily navigated the metro to our hotel and walked the 1 block with our rolling bags to arrive to our hotel. We had our two boys age 10 and 12. They had no trouble as we traveled light. I would recommend a taxi to the hotel if you have a lot of luggage. We loved using the public transportation to enjoy the museums, monuments and outstanding selection of restaurants. Being from Kitty Hawk NC, we LOVE getting to the city for some stimulation and great food. The staff were very nice. We used the pool only once but I am sure if we stayed longer the boys would have been in there more. The breakfast buffet was ample to keep us going until lunch and we were able to buy a few items at the hotel store for the evening. Even a decent bottle of wine to enjoy one night after the boys went to bed in our 1 bedroom suite. Overall a great experience and we would stay here again. There is nothing RIGHT wound the hotel except a pizza place that was very good.

They staff were friendly and the room ( a two bedroom suite ) was very clean...but things were looking a big worn and there are no good restaurants in the area...just a pizza place next door...most everything else was closed on the weekend. I'm more of an uptown person when visiting a city...I come to Washington often and would rather be in "the thick of it"...not so isolated.

We stayed for a week of sightseeing. Very friendly employees, convenient location to metro and Capitol. Good breakfast selection, the social hour serving Mon-Wed was all we needed for dinner.
The restaurants in the area mostly close down at 5. There is a pizza place next door open late.
If you take the metro around the corner over one stop to Capitol South metro, there is a good Mexican restaurant and Bullfeathers, burgers pizza and entries. There is also a Thai restaurant there which we did not try. These are all on 1st , half block south of the Capitol south metro.
We walked down to the Safeway on 4th for snacks in the room, about a 4 or 5 block walk.
Ask for a room on the front side, you will not hear the train. We also arrived early on a Sunday, around 11 am and we're able to get our room right away.
I would recommend to anyone who wants to be close to the Capital with a good sized room.

Stayed in two bedroom suite for a family of five. Clean and comfortable. Location excellent. Near metro station, Safeway's, national mall and white house. Unfortunately, we were there for four days during the government shutdown, so missed out on the Smithsonian's which is why we went to Washington DC, but we filled our days walking to all the monuments. Visited Arlington Cemetery and walked from there back to the hotel via monuments. Found city very clean and safe. Kids enjoyed pool. Excellent coin operated laundry facilities and hotel shop. Complimentary breakfast broad enough to satisfy all members of the family. A little overpriced but probably due to location. Our internet was a little slow unless siting by the window but was complimentary. No view but this was not an issue for us. There are trains that run at back of hotel but the noise from these did not bother us. Included kitchen facilities which were very useful. Would recommend for families. Only negative was that we had the desk staff order us a taxi for the following morning to the Amtrac station as the local train was not running that day to Union Station. When we checked the next morning the car had not been ordered but we had checked early enough to have another one ordered.
