“Right Next To NASA HQ, But Nothing Else”
Reviewed 6 July 2010

Stayed here for a week during a business trip to NASA HQ. Location was perfect for a warm summer week - right across the street from HQ, so no sweating while walking in a coat & tie. However, it is not close to much of anything else. It is south of the mall by several blocks and there are very few restaurants close by. However, the metro is just around the corner, so you can get to places fairly easily. Plus, it is always nice to walk around DC in the evenings.

Rooms were typical Residence Inn - clean and spacious. I was on a high floor, so I didn't hear any traffic noise. I did need to keep the drapes closed tho' as there was an office building right across from my room with direct views into the windows. The evening snack/meals on Mon-Weds were okay (not provided Thurs-Sun). They included a very basic salad (just lettuce & dressing) and a main (pasta one night, chicken marsala another). Nothing special, but they'll fill you up if you're not picky. However, they were quite busy as it appears a lot of people staying here took advantage of the free meal. The morning breakfasts were also okay and typical of Residence Inns (scrambled eggs & fix'ns).

The staff was friendly and was able to provide directions and a few recommendations for restaurants.

The only complaint I had was with the thin walls. I think the room next to me (the wall right at my bed's headboard) was empty. However, the radio alarm would go off every morning at 5:30am and stay on for an hour until the timer ran out. It was noticable enough to wake me up every morning thinking it was my alarm (it wasn't). I think whomever was in the room last left the alarm on. After the 3rd morning, I asked at the front desk to see if they could check into it and they said they would, but nothing changed.

Anyway, a typical Residence Inn - doesn't stand out other than the location if you need to spend time at NASA HQ. There are loads of other hotels in the area that are closer to nightlife (restaurants, etc.) if thats why you're in DC.

Traveled with my husband, mother, and three children ages 7, 11, and 13. This hotel was clean and very accomadating to all of our needs. It is close to a Metro stop, which allowed us explore a variety of areas in the city very easily. It is also a very quick walk to Capital and The Mall. The buffet breakfast served every morning was plentiful and a great start to our day of sight-seeing and the small dinner served Mon- Wed was very good and helped reduce the cost of dining on our trip, which can be very expensive in the city. There was a washer and dryer facility with reasonably priced loads. This was helpful after being on vacation for 10 days. There was a grocery store very close to the hotel, however, the 24 gift shop/store was helpful some evenings when we did not feel like venturing out and supplied a variety of beverages, snacks and needed items. The indoor pool was small and not heated, but many children found it to be a nice thing after touring all day in the summer sun. The parking garage was a little pricey, however, $30 a day is the going rate for parking at hotels in the city. The front desk told us about a parking lot across the street that had free parking during the weekend and only $15 a day during the week. We were thankful she mentioned that and saved almost $100 by using that lot. The staff was over the top friendly and attended to anything we needed. I would recommend this hotel to anyone traveling with or without children. It was a very pleasant experience.

Huge rooms with kitchens (table and chairs, full fridge, microwave, dishwasher, etc.), living area (couch, coffee table, flat screen TV), and good size bed. Do not expect that lush Marriott bedding, it is pretty threadbare on top of a hard mattress. Unfortunately, there is a train that runs right by the hotel that is extremely loud. Also, the rooms and common areas were a bit dirty and the smells in the hallways got pretty bad at times - guessing because of cooking.
Good internet connection. Free breakfast every morning, and dinner Monday through Wednesday, movie nights Saturday and Sunday. Self-laundry was great and reasonably priced - bring quarters - $1 each to wash and dry.
Great location for visiting the Mall and museums. Dismal for anything else - there are really no good restaurants or bars within walking distance. Cab rides to better areas are pretty reasonable. Walk south on 4th Street a few blocks to get to a new Safeway.

I have an extreme paranoia with bed bugs and now that paranoia has been founded. The room I stayed in during the last two nights in DC at the Residence Inn had bed bugs and 26 bites and 2 weeks later I'm still dealing with the repercussions.

The afternoon after the first night in the room I saw some bites on my arm and thought they were mosquito bites but had a faint inkling in the back of my mind that it may be bed bug bites. More bites started appearing throughout the day. That night i checked the mattress and didn't see any so I slept but the next morning I woke up with at least 10 more bites. The grossest thing is that I moved a pillow and actually found a bug.

I was so utterly disgusted I packed up and went to check out and showed the front desk ladies my bites. They seemed concerned and the manager called me the following Monday trying to do some damage control but still... GROSS.

It's going to be a while until I stay at another hotel again.
