“Simply tasty sushi and chirashi”
Reviewed 19 June 2014

This tiny upstairs restaurant saw a stream of contented lunch customers. Four cooks working flat out; menu of standards and rarities; food fresh Fresh FRESH and delicious, prices very reasonable. Palisades is tough as a destination, but if you are in the area it's a must.

“Kotobuki (寿 - longevity) is forever!”
Reviewed 15 March 2014

The sushi and sashimi here are not the best or very creative, and it's pricey if you go for the rarer stuff like otoro or uni. However, we've been going here for over 10 years, because the food is pretty good, service is friendly, and it's very homey here - Beatles music, simple decor. Great neighbourhood restaurant!

“Authentic, best sushi place in DC”
Reviewed 25 January 2014 via mobile

It's really hard to find a good Japanese restaurant in DC. The quality is normally low.
I found this restaurant through yelp and the pics looked very legitimate, so we decided to give it a try. It's kind of far from DC by public transportation. There is a bus stop next door (D5 and D6 at night they are not very frequent). We took a cab and that's 20 dollars with tip.
This place is small, it has maybe 15 seats (10 at tables plus 5 seats on the bar). They don't take reservations.
We arrived early and we got a table right away.
We ordered the unadon set (it comes with miso soup and 4 pieces of sashimi), sashimi and chirashi deluxe. Everything was delicious! The fish was very fresh and tasty!
I highly recommend this place. Now, it is my fav sushi spot in DC.

“Great fish”
Reviewed 23 December 2013 via mobile

We were looking for great sushi in DC and found it. Started with the clam miso on offer, and our table had rolls, chirashi, and the hot pot. Everything was great, the servers were kind and charming, and the mochi were delish.

“Nice Chirashi in an authentic setting”
Reviewed 8 October 2013 via mobile

Just had dinner at Kotobuki since I was craving for Japanese food. Gosh, good sushi is a hard find in Washington DC? With Kotobuki, however, I was able to find an authentic and reliable place to satisfy my desire. :-)

I had the Chirashi Special (USD 25.00) which comes with a bowl of miso soup. The fish was fresh and tasty. I would particularly commend to Tamago (egg) which was very tasty. The sushi rice, however, was rather bland and could have used a little bit more vinegar.

I then orders a couple of Nigiri's with tuna, salmon and tamago. Again, the fish was good but the rice did not fulfill my expectations.

Service was very friendly and attentive. Sushi chefs were all Japanese. All in all a good experience but a little bit overpriced for what you get (but hey, this is DC...right?).
