“Smooth Weekend Stay”
Reviewed 23 June 2014

I had a great time at the hotel. Andrea at the front desk and Cynthia at the concierge were very helpful as well during my stay. All the amenities that I needed were right at my fingertips! It was very centrally located and had may options for public transit as well. The gym is huge and has tons of equipment as well.

Room Tip: Even the rooms that over look the atrium are very nice rooms. Just dont forget to close the drapes!!

The lobby of this new hotel says it all. Large, modern, and open. The staff--every single one--was friendly, helpful, and approachable. They seemed like they enjoyed their job. The bar scene was elegant and fun and right in the huge lobby. The rooms are nice and clean--nothing very special but just nice. Quiet too.

Having just spent 3 nights at this new hotel we give it a thumbs up. It has only been opened a few months and all of the staff falls over themselves to offer help even if you are just standing in the lobby waiting for someone. Our large room was on the 11th floor with a great view and I really liked the shower stall instead of climbing in and out of a tub. The breakfast buffet was enormous and also an omelet station. The High Velocity bar was a great place to cool off on a hot afternoon. We found the location to be a nice walk to the museums, which we needed after that breakfast. It is not too far from some very good restaurants and Chinatown. Who can complain about clean and sparkling new?

Room Tip: Try to get a room on a high floor for a view. Someone in our group had a 4th floor room with a love...

A very welcoming hotel with comfortable, well-appointed rooms. Beautiful lobby, great restaurants.
Got a great deal with the June 2014 weekend special rate.

Had a small problem getting the in-room wifi working, however the staff responded quickly. Otherwise the visit was flawless and the service from everyone was great!

My wife and I stayed here the weekend of 6/13-6/16. The hotel is very modern and beautiful at the same time. There is a huge Lobby Bar and 3 separate restaurants to service guests with one additional "upscale" restaurant to open in late fall. The hotel is situated midway down Massachusetts Ave, south of "Embassy Row". The location is perfect for foot or taxi travel to many local sites and off site restaurants. The hotel is a s clean as any that we've ever seen. There are gentle water fall features in the main lobby where one can sit and read and enjoy the peacefulness of the surroundings. The staff are extremely pleasant and friendly and will go the extra mile to ensure your happiness. Our favorite small plate restaurant was "The Dignitary". Here is where one can sip on selections of 43 different Bourbons and snack on well crafted Tapas. There are large over stuffed chairs and tables as well as a separate room for privacy and an additional quiet room with a fireplace and large furniture for quiet conversation. In the main bar, there is upbeat music and a super bar tender named..."Pete". A very cool dude, indeed. He makes a mean Manhattan cocktail. The sports bar is named, "High Velocity" and is very noisy and loud with obnoxious patrons galore. The food matches the type of cliental that frequents this establishment. It is mediocre at best!
Another restaurant that serves breakfast and lunch is off the main lobby and is called, "Anthem" The service and food here are top notch! Breakfast is a bit pricey, however, this IS a Marriott Marquis!!!
Our room was very comfy with a generous glass shower and bath. We were right on Massachusetts Ave with a floor to ceiling wall of windows to check out our environment. There is also a coffee maker and frig in the rooms.
Overall, this hotel rates 4 stars and that is only because it still has growing pains. I suspect this time next year it will easily earn a 5 star rating. BRAVO Marriott.

Room Tip: Get close to the 12th floor so you can enjoy the outdoor rooftop lounge.

I stayed here for 2 nights just after this hotel opened for business. It is a sleek, modern hotel with a gorgeous multi-story atrium lobby. It makes one think they are outdoors. My room was of course brand new - perhaps I was the first person to sleep in the bed. The bed was lovely and quite comfy.
Reasons why it doesn't rate a "5":
No view from my room except other buildings (some of which appeared a bit dicey)
In fact the area where this hotel is located is not one where I'd wish to be walking around on my own after dark. I suspect the area is "up and coming" but it doesn't appear to be "there" yet.
Lack of mini-bars in the rooms. For a late night snack or beer, one is out of luck unless you want to traipse down to the lobby or order room service.
The food at my business meeting was superb, and the meeting rooms were well equipped. The staff were welcoming and friendly.

Hi AlabamaAnne,
Thank you for the great feedback. The atrium style lobby is indeed impressive with so much natural light. As far as the views, we are surrounded by buildings including the convention center, however our staff is very accomodating for requests for rooms with our Massachusetts Avenue city view based upon availability. Our atruim view rooms also provide great views. I hope to see you again soon.

I really wanted to like this but left with ambivalent feelings. Staff was excellent in all regards. The building, rooms, and facilities are all gorgeous, but this hotel has an identity crisis. It doesn't know what it wants to be - a deluxe city hotel, or a mid-price hotel. It charges like a deluxe hotel but provides mid-price features. No full-service restaurant, limited room service served in paper bags, a paucity of amenities in the rooms, etc.

I'm ok with tubes of shampoo, conditioner, etc in the bathroom, but a little dinky tube of hand soap doesn't cut it. See picture attached. There was enough soap in that tube for 2 hand washes. GET SOME BAR SOAP.

I was in 15-070. Beautiful room. Some curtains were too long and because of the extra material at the bottom could only open with difficulty.

Hi dgreenspon,
Thank you for the helpful feedback. Although I appreciate the notes regarding the beautiful room and excellent staff, I was disappointed to read that you felt the value was not there. This is the type of feedback that we need to hear.

Thank you for the note regarding our hand soap in the bathrooms. We do have a few restaurant outlets to include Anthem, High Velocity, Dignitary, and a fourth scheduled to be completed later in the year as well as Dining Your Way, which is the 24 hour food option you mentioned. Dining Your Way offers fresh food, delivered to your room quickly, in convenient packaging with no delivery fees or upcharges. This is based on guest feedback research that guests say room service takes too long, is too expensive, and the food is not fresh much of the time.

I hope you will stay with us again when you are back in the Nation's capital. Keep checking our rates as we will stay competitive with the other hotels in the area, and feel free to reach out to me so that I can ensure that you enjoy your stay with us. Thank you.
