“Wanted to like this hotel more...”
Reviewed 24 June 2014

I am a frequent business traveler to DC and usually stay at Marriott hotels. Was very much looking forward to trying this new hotel, but am somewhat dissappointed and not sure I'll return for a while.

Pros: Beautiful modern hotel in a great location. A few blocks from the metro good restaurants, and across fro the convention center. Rooms have modern finishes, refrigerator, and coffee maker. Interior room was quiet...no lobby bar noise! Staff is very pleasant and helpful for what is in their control. The concierge lounge is large has a good variety of choices, and a nice outside seating area. I did not visit others bars or restaurants at the hotel.

Cons: No cell phone service for Verizon wireless. Minimal Sprint service. Only carrier that semi works is AT&T. The front desk explained it is related to a needed cell phone tower out of the hotel's control. Very inconvenient. The staff explained you have to step outside the hotel to make calls using Verizon. Not ideal for a call home at night. The hotel is so popular that it is difficult to get your requested room types. Also, many rooms overloom the atrium and do not have an outside exposure. I was unable to get my requested room type or outside room, even as a platinum rewards member. As other people identified, room plumbing could be improved.

Hopefully some of these kinks will be worked out as the hotel matures.

Room Tip: Ask for outside exposure if you want direct light. Many rooms are interior and overlook interior atr...

Hi Trvlgrl0101,
It was a pleasure to have you during your recent stay, and thank you for providing this feedback! We work very hard to ensure all of our guests have a superb stay, so it is great to hear you had a positive experience with our staff.
I'm sorry you had a difficult time receiving cellular connection within our property. Unfortunately AT&T is the only provider in this area who has rights to the cellular tower in the area of this hotel. However, we have been working diligently with all providers- to ensure that all of our guests receive flawless cellular connection within The Marriott Marquis Washington D.C.
Thank you again, we hope to see you again soon!

Stayed at this beautiful hotel on 6/22 because the Restaurant Awards of Metropolitan Washington (RAMW) were being held at the Convention Center next door and my amazing boyfriend & his two partners were nominated as Restaurateurs of the Year!

I have been looking forward to staying here. The proximity to the Convention Center is perfect. The vast lobby is soaring and the glass ceiling that overlooks outside brings in so much light!

Multiple places to eat: Lobby Lounge, High Velocity - there were packed due to soccer and the place was humming along with plenty of happy patrons eating & drinking.

Well..call me spoiled but this club level lounge was perfect! Honor Bar for drinks ( I was honest and correctly charged for our two drinks) and plenty of delicious food and well displayed. A huge jar of Reese's Pieces! The deck is amazing..Some woman was actually out there in here bikini top. Show off. The views of Washington DC are incredible. If you can, stay there - and close to the Lounge so you can go back & forth!.

FYI: we did not drive but valet parking is the only option at $53, so do your homework and don't blame the hotel for valet charges. An informed consumer is the best consumer!

I am buying the Marriott pillows. flipped out they were so comfortable!

Room Tip: room on Club lounge close to the Lounge.

We spent a weekend in June 2014. It is a hotel where everybody is friendly and welcoming. huge atrium with nice sculpture awaits you. Nice bar in the lobby. It is next to convention center with underground access to it it makes it very convenient for convention goers. Keurig coffeemaker made us feel at home. In bathroom toilet can use better quality .

I had a great time at the hotel. Andrea at the front desk and Cynthia at the concierge were very helpful as well during my stay. All the amenities that I needed were right at my fingertips! It was very centrally located and had may options for public transit as well. The gym is huge and has tons of equipment as well.

Room Tip: Even the rooms that over look the atrium are very nice rooms. Just dont forget to close the drapes!!

The lobby of this new hotel says it all. Large, modern, and open. The staff--every single one--was friendly, helpful, and approachable. They seemed like they enjoyed their job. The bar scene was elegant and fun and right in the huge lobby. The rooms are nice and clean--nothing very special but just nice. Quiet too.

Having just spent 3 nights at this new hotel we give it a thumbs up. It has only been opened a few months and all of the staff falls over themselves to offer help even if you are just standing in the lobby waiting for someone. Our large room was on the 11th floor with a great view and I really liked the shower stall instead of climbing in and out of a tub. The breakfast buffet was enormous and also an omelet station. The High Velocity bar was a great place to cool off on a hot afternoon. We found the location to be a nice walk to the museums, which we needed after that breakfast. It is not too far from some very good restaurants and Chinatown. Who can complain about clean and sparkling new?

Room Tip: Try to get a room on a high floor for a view. Someone in our group had a 4th floor room with a love...

A very welcoming hotel with comfortable, well-appointed rooms. Beautiful lobby, great restaurants.
Got a great deal with the June 2014 weekend special rate.

Had a small problem getting the in-room wifi working, however the staff responded quickly. Otherwise the visit was flawless and the service from everyone was great!
