“Great hotel for kids and families, wonderful value.”
Reviewed 2 August 2014

We booked this hotel after learning from Trip Advisor that it was a great kids hotel. We were not disappointed. We stayed with our three boys, ages 4, 7, and 8. We booked a corner suite with one king and pull out couch. The room was very large and quiet with a great view of the city. The staff was extremely friendly and helpful. The cocktails in the evening were very generous and the kids enjoyed snacks and kid beverages. Our kids spend a lot of time at the pool. The pool was small, but empty during the day and became very crowded at night. The hot tub was well maintained.

We ate breakfast for free each morning and kids ate free in the restaurant too and we found the food to be very good.

Also, the hotel was a five minute walk to the metro station and it was easy to get a cab out front.

Overall, we were very impressed with the hotel. All I would say is that if you are expecting a kid-free experience do not stay here, because this is a great family hotel. If you want a pool free of kids, I would suggest looking up the kid un-friendly hotels in DC.

Room Tip: Corner suites were very nice. Also, avoid a room on floor two because that is the pool level and wa...

Stayed here for two nights in mid-May. The group consisted of four women. We were very happy with the hotel. It offered a free breakfast each morning that consisted of everything from yogurt, omelets and hot food. Plenty of tables to sit at. Each evening there was a cocktail hour with snacks; drinks were watered down but I don't think there was a limit on how many you could have. The hotel was clean, in a safe neighborhood and the staff was pleasant. We did feel that for a "suite" it was small (the same group had stayed in an Embassy Suites in NYC in 2013 and that room was significantly larger). It is also located in a relatively quiet section of the city.
We were able to walk everywhere we wanted to go: White House, National Mall, etc. China town was very close by. There are plenty of restaurants within a few blocks. We walked from the Mall to our hotel at night and, even though there were some homeless people sleeping on the streets, we felt safe. The neighborhood appears to be "up and coming"; many high end clothing stores, like Kate Spade, were opening up.

We spent 4 nights at this Embassy Suites in Washington DC. We were able to park the car ($39.00 per day valet!) which was pricey but then we took mass transit or walked everywhere. It's convenient to all of the tourist sites in DC. The made to order breakfast every morning was great - lots of options including fresh fruit. The Manager's reception in the evening was a plus as well with good selections of both beverages and snacks.
Our suite was nice - we've been in better ones in Florida and Arizona but it met our needs well. Bed was comfy and the room and bathrooms were clean.

Room Tip: We had a suite on the 15th floor with beautiful views of the Capitol.

We stayed here in mid-July for 4 nights. We arrived on a Saturday afternoon, and the front desk staff seemed a little stressed. There were a few people in line, but it didn't seem overwhelming. We were put on the 5th floor on the street side. I do not recommend a lower floor, especially if you are a light sleeper. You can hear everything in the atrium, and we were awakened by guests arguing around 2am. Thankfully, we were able to switch rooms and were put on a high floor which was much more quiet. After that, we had a nice stay. The concierge was very helpful and provided maps of the area. The breakfast buffet was great, with the exception of the omelets. Normally, I get an omelet every day, but the first one was dripping in oil, so I stuck with the rest of the buffet which was great.

Room Tip: Rooms above the 5th floor on the alley side are quieter

Great for families. With the suite concept, allows kids to sleep separately. Location is a mile or two from the major monuments, but easy walk or 3-4 blocks from the Metro. Rooms are a little dark. Good selections for free breakfast - but LONG lines when we were there. For the price with free breakfast and complimentary cocktails in the evening, it is a good value. No free Wi-Fi in the room unless you are a HH honors member.

Stayed for 7 nights with Embassy Suites Convention Center in Washington DC. I was there to attend a conference. Property is centrally located. You can walk around in downtown and visit the places of interest. The rooms/suites are well done. Food is good. Staff is attentive and supportive. Will prefer to stay with them in my next visit to DC.

Reviewed 31 July 2014

While the location of the property is walking distance to many DC amenities, we expected significantly more from a Hilton brand.

We booked for a family of four for 5 nights, asked for extra towels, feather free room due to severe allergies, pack-and-play for the baby and a high chair. I even called the hotel a few days in advance to confirm our requests from the booking. I was reassured, it will be all taken care of, and due to our long stay, they arranged for us participating in the loyalty program and one of our nights will be free.

Issues:

1. We only had 3 sets of towels. I called housekeeping immediately after check in (3.45 pm), the promised to bring additional towels. After our sightseeing in the afternoon, upon our return, no sign of the requested towels at 8 pm. Went down to reception, they said, they call housekeeping and we should have the towels shortly. 30 min later I had to call reception again, they said, they will notify housekeeping. At 9 pm we finally had our towels - well past the bed time of our small children.

2. We never received the booked pack-and-play and high chair. I am happy we had our playpen with us, for just-in-case.

3. Our guaranteed feather-free room had only feather pillows. Every single one of them. After the hiatus with the towels, I checked them and called reception to get them exchanged. I had to refer to our 5+ hour wait for the towels to get better service with the pillows. We got the synthetic filled ones at 9.30 pm, waking up the sleeping baby and the tired 6 years old.

4. Housekeeping is non-existent in this hotel. During our 5 nights stay, the suite has been barely cleaned or vacuumed. Towels were not replaced twice, garbage not taken out once at all, from the main bedroom not at all during the entire stay, the plastic to the ice bucket not replaced at all leaving melted ice-water in the bucket until I emptied it.

5. We only needed our car twice from vallet, called in advance and asked for delivery in 30 minutes, yet they made us wait. At the checkout morning we waited an additional 30 minutes. We were so exhausted and delayed from our subsequent trip that we did not even check the car, just were happy once packed into it and left. Only at our next destination we noticed that vallet damaged the lack on our car on the front (probably when they made a curve at parking) and the bellboy at the back when he "helped" putting in our luggage. Super upsetting discovery. Wonder why the hotel enforces a $39 + tax / day valley parking only to damage the guests cars. Get it: we paid $200 + tax for our stay for someone else to damage our car and us waiting forever to finally access it. NEVER again to use vallet parking, especially on a brand new car!

6. Breakfast buffet is nothing special with long waiting lines.

7. The suite was close to the vending machine and directly behind the elevators. You woke up to slammed doors and noisy arriving guests in the middle of the night. Every night.

8. The hotel's tiny, cramped pool is not inviting.

9. 2 washers and 2 dryers are the only available hotel-owned coin laundry leading to ridiculous waiting lines 24 hours - any day. This is simply not enough for the size of the property and the amount of guests the hotel houses.

10. We never gotten our previously promised free night - paid in full at checkout.

Washington is a great city to visit. However, stay at a different hotel.
