Embassy Suites by Hilton Washington-Convention Center
Ranked #31 of 142 Hotels in Washington DC

Reviewed 8 April 2009

Spent a few nights here with my spouse the week after Christmas.
Things we liked
Room was very nice and spacious & clean.
Full Breakfast & Free Happy hour were a terrific value.
Location was pretty good.

Things we disliked
Downstairs atmosphere, Gone is the open air courtyard in this new embassy suites design.
Atmosphere in the attatched restaurant for breakfast was hectic/overcrowded dodging kids to get back to your table to eat.
Atmosphere in Happy Hour area was bordering on tacky, overlit
Basement kind of feel, crowded and noisy.

Our bottom line.
Would highly recommend this hotel for families with kids as this seems to be their clientele. For couples & singles or business travelers there are better places to stay. We much preferred the Grand Hyatt Across the way.

We stayed at the Embassy suites convention center Valentine's weekend and we really enjoyed this hotel.

The rooms have a sitting room with sofa, armchair, tv and a worktable that doubles as a place to eat. The kitchen area is just a microwave (needed cleaning!) a small refrigerator and a sink. The bed was super comfortable.

They offer a complimentary breakfast buffet that included some cooked to order items such as omeletes and corn beef hash. The buffet items consisted of scrambled eggs, potatoes, sausage links and bacon, as well as a variety of cereals, muffins, danishes, and fruit. You must get to the buffet before 8:30 am after that the place gets packed. They also offer a manager's reception in the evening which mainly consists of pretzels, cheese, chips and dip and alcoholic beverages. The reception area is very small we had to take our snacks to our room. If you're going to the reception skip the first half hour the line is out the door!

Overall we had a very pleasant stay and would definitely come again!

Great location, close to the museums. The staff was always friendly and the restaurant is connected to the hotel.

Hotel is is superb location to most everything...Metro station a couple blocks away, Circulator Bus stop a block away. Room was beautiful Did face construction of a building so the view was not good......was prepared for the noise by bringing my own set of ear plugs...(been in too many San Fran hotels to know about street noise). Hotel was very busy with the beginning of Spring Break/tourist season...so the lines for the free breakfast were a little excessive. Open bar reception in the evening was very quiet without much waiting in line. The best part of the hotel was the staff and employees. I have never ever encountered so many happy upbeat individuals. There was not one who was slightly cranky......everyone went overboard to make sure that our stay was wonderful. From the bell staff, the cleaning lady, the front desk, the chef making my omlette..all smiling amazing folks. I would not hesitate for a moment going back to this hotel.

First of all, the location is great. Check in was painfully slow, and finally a bellman pointed out a check in kiosk where we could check in and get our keys without standing in line. There were only 2 people ahead of us, but a 10 minute wait did not result in any forward movement. Only one person was at the desk on a busy Friday afternoon.
When we entered the room it felt like a cave. Once the lights were on, it was better, but it looked dingy. There were large dirty marks on the sofa.
The bed looked inviting with nice linens. One of the TV's in the small suite was a flat screen. The bathroom was clean, but the wallpaper was peeling. There was a really stale smell to the room and no way to air it out. The second day we were there, we returned to a really awful odor in the hall and it had permeated our room to the point where I called the front desk. They promised to send someone right up, and an hour later there had still been no knock at the door. They never did send anyone and we went out to buy Fabreeze. The only thing that made it possible for us to continue staying there was the frequent spraying. We checked out the next morning. We won't be staying there again.

The hotel is located a short walk away from the Smithsonian American Art Museum and the National Portrait Gallery. Getting to the National Mall and museums there are also an easy walk. The rooms are nice and the service was excellent. The breakfast is great, especially if you are an early riser. One morning we went just before 9 and it was very crowded but things still moved along well. The hotel has Internet kiosks we used to check our mail. The only problem with those were parents that let their kids play games while people were waiting to check their mail.
We did not use the pool or fitness area. The restaurant was ok, not great. Our room was on the back side of the hotel so it had no view and minimal natural lighting. This wasn't a problem for us. Many reviews complained about noise from other rooms, we did not come across this. We will probably stay there again if we go back to DC.

I do recommend this hotel! Me and my husband loved every minute in this hotel. The place, the room, the staff, everything was fabulous!!!
I wish that every hotel was like the Embassy Suites! I mean it! We´ve been a trip around NYC, Washington e Miami and Embassy was a great surprise for us!
The breakfast was wonderful, the room was super clean and cozy, seems like a mini and chic condo!!! The bed was pretty comfortable and the sheets very good and clean.
And they still offer free internet for the guests! Love!
