We stayed in Akwaaba for 6 days in April 2009 and had a thoroughly enjoyable time. Kristin is a charming and welcoming host who makes everyone feel at home. At the communal breakfast table we met guests from all over America and enjoyed chatting well after we had finished the delicious breakfasts. The breakfasts are different every day and Kristin made a special trip to the supermarket to make sure I had veggie alternatives. We stayed in the Inspiration room at the top of the house. As well as a (rather small) shower room there is a romantic clawfoot bath in the huge room and the bed was amazingly comfortable. The parlour, hall and dining room are beautifully decorated and we enjoyed spending time in them, especially during 'happy hour' with a glass of wine- a relaxing way to unwind after a days sightseeing. I would happily recommend this b and b and must say a quick hello to Auntie Beverley who has also written a review and who we enjoyed chatting to over breakfast!!

For seven days, my granddaughter and I felt pampered and cared for as if we were family. Each uniquely decorated suite at Akwaaba honors a literary figure or genre. Our stay in the Toni Morrison room was wonderful. There are even books to read if you are up for a late night cup of tea.
There was lively conversation and suggestions of what to see and do in Washington D.C. as guest from all over the globe sat down to the lovingly prepared breakfasts. Each meal was a feast for the eyes and the palate. Dietary requests were honored and the "happy hour" treats were a delightful plus.
There is a bus stop right out the front door so the sights of Washington are close at hand.
Our inn-keepers, Kristin and Jalisa, were professional, efficient and the friendliest I've ever met. They really understand hospitality and got it more than right!
I would definitely stay here again and wholeheartedly recommend it to others.

We selected this b & b for its location in D.C. We were pleasantly surprised by the accommodations and especially our host Kirsten. She ensured we were comfortable during our stay, accommodating food preferences, suggesting restaurants in the area, and ensuring we had everything we needed throughout our stay. We enjoyed the personal touches of homemade breakfast and daily happy hour which included tasty snacks and wine. The food was high quality as was the service!

We received a very warm welcome from Kristin, the inn-keeper, who looked after us during our stay. After a long flight she greeted us with ice cold beers which were very welcome indeed. We stayed in the twin room at the top of the house which was called "Poetry". The room was very spacious and comfortable but most importantly for a central location it was quiet so we slept very well. The home cooked breakfasts each morning were delicious. The B&B was spotlessly clean and very well placed for all the main sights in Washington - especially DuPont Circle. I would definitely stay here again, Akwaaba was excellent - friendly, relaxed and very well located. What more could you ask for from a B&B?

Me and my husband stayed here for 3 nights - it's in Dupont Circle which is a great location - walking distance to U Street, Adam's Morgan, Georgetown, and the Mall. Also, convenient buses run right in front if you don't want to walk.

Upon arrival at the discreet building, we were pleasantly surprised to be greeted with a colorful and cozy atmosphere, and a very friendly inkeeper Kristin.

We stayed in the Romance Room - sweet and cozy, decorated in reds and velvet and looks out to the back alley way. The bathroom has 'Romance' written on the walls - a little cheesy but cute. It has a two headed shower - the water pressure is a bit funky. I think they need to change the shower heads so the water is consistent on both sides. The same with the sink faucet pressure - it sort of trickles out. Not too noisy if it hadn't been for the love birds whose room was on top of ours - boy were they loud. Other than that, it was pretty quiet.

We loved the very friendly staff and atmosphere. Plus it is very reasonable compared to the other B&Bs in the area. This place has charm and history which we love about B&Bs. They served homey style breakfast in the morning - different every morning usually consisting of juice, fruit, cereal and a main dish - French Toast, Quiche. The day Monique (the owner) made breakfast it was the best.

We had a wonderful stay here - perfect as a home base to all the sites in DC.

Super comfy beds and literary-themed rooms leave you wishing you could stay at Akwaaba for weeks. The breakfasts were yummy and our hosts Kristen and Monique took care of any need we had. A lovely place to call home while in DC.

We loved the innkeeper at this hotel. The food was amazing. Nice free internet access in the lobby. Parking was great. The homemade whip cream and rose pedals was a dream come true. You can't beat the location - you can walk to ANYTHING - you don't even need a car. The room was very small, but apparently they had bigger ones to choose from. Not much of an entertainment system, but most B&Bs don't even have TVs. I will stay here again.
