Description: Oyamel combines Mexico's rich regional diversity with the modern urban atmosphere of Mexico City. The liveliness of the dining room is matched by the creativity of the menu and cocktail list, featuring antojitos-Mexican small plates-ceviches and tacos, plus unique margaritas, and an impressive array of wines and tequilas. Originally opened in 2004 in the Crystal City neighborhood of Arlington, Oyamel moved to its current home in the Penn Quarter in March of 2007.

What a lucky find! After walking miles all day in some extreme heat, this was a great place to take a break and enjoy a great lunch. Good margaritas, ice cold ahi tuna ceviche was the best I've ever had, and good, cheap tacos that you can order as few or as many as you want. The place was packed but our service was still excellent, and the food came out incredibly fast. We appreciated the fun atmosphere and artistic decorations too. Wished we could've stayed longer! We'd like to go back for dinner if we return to stay longer and try more flavors of the margaritas!

As mentioned in a previous review, this restaurant is part of the Jose Andres group of restaurants. His original Jaleo is across the street and he is building another one next to that.

One of the reasons that I love this place is that there are so many vegetarian options. The cauliflower is outstanding. All of the salads feel very fresh, with lots of citrus accents and interesting ingrediants. They just added a bean dish (not the refried) which was outstanding.

They also have some great fruit drink concoctions sitting on the bar, today it was strawberry/watermellon and orange mango.

Neat decorations and innovative dishes with a Mexican flare. However the portions are very small for the price. The $4 tacos are tiny but delicious. The gaucamole made at the table is wonderful but expensive. Salsa is a little bland without much heat. The margaritas are very good and not too sweet. If you just want an appetizer and drink you have to stand or sit at the bar. Air Margarita is interesting but about half the drink is left in the glass in the form of foam.

This is a Jose Andres spot and run do not walk if you get the chance. Start with the salt air margi....don't ask, just order it. It's like a latte but with tequila. So good.

Also try all the ceviche. Pure heaven. I loved the tuna best, but all are delish!!!

Finish with guacamole and the carnitas tacos. OMG are they good...

He is a genius and it is a true treat.

the place was crowded on Sat. evening, but I could easily find a place next to the bar.
the service was quick and with a smile.
As a vegetarian I had many choices, but I decided to follow the bar woman's recommendations.
the 2 dishes I got were nice, not something to come back for.
the chips were fresh and crispy, the salsa was fresh and spicy, and the margarita was excellent.

prices are decent
