“You must be kidding”
Reviewed 13 December 2013

This was our third time staying at the Georgetown Inn. Reviews for the last few years unanimously agreed that the Hotel needed improvements. We thought so as well.

The location remains 5 a Star. Whatever were they thinking that the Georgetown Inn should be converted into an ultra modern Inn. Our stay this time was not what we expected.

The rooms were a disaster by design. There is nothing that remotely keeps the Inn. running as an historic room. .

Room Tip: High level to avoid street noise.

Generally the hotel looked nice when we walked in. Unfortunately when I laid down to go to bed, I noticed small blood spots on the duvet- almost right in my face. It was under the duvet cover, but it was on backwards so the open flap was at the top of the bed. And it wasn't a blood stain, but definitely blood that hadn't yet been washed. We called and had them swap it- which took them over 15 minutes (not ideal when you're pregnant and ready for bed). And there was only a night manager on call to speak to. When we spoke to the other manager the next day, all he could do was comp us parking for our stay. Which didn't seem like a fair trade, but I didn't want my husband getting into a fight. In addition there was a dead stink bug on our window sill, which made it seem like the room really hadn't been cleaned well... not just a lack of washing the duvet. I will say other than the manager not being very accommodating, the other staff was very nice. They saved this place from a 1 circle rating.

The front desk clerk was amazing in trying to help me find an appropriate room for myself & 2 teenage boys. The room was perfect! The location was great for shopping and dining and a short cab ride to museums. I usually have stayed here when traveling alone, but I doubt my sons will allow me to come back without them. Thank you so much!!!

I booked this hotel at the last minute for a business trip, and later when I read the poor reviews in Tripadvisor, I had serious trepidation about what I would find upon my arrival. To my pleasant surprise, except for a very worn, dirty-looking lounge chair in the room, I found pretty good conditions in my room, including: personal climate control that worked, comfortable/clean bed, ample outlets near a little desk, free Internet service, and a well stocked Keurig machine. The bathroom was updated a bit -- very small but serviceable. Sure, some of the furnishings were dated, but they were mostly fine --- except for that big chair sitting like a huge sign of decline in the room. I wouldn't call the room luxurious by any means, but it was better than some other hotels that I've stayed at in Washington DC. Definitely better than the horrendous L'Enfant Plaza Hotel! The location was very good, too, right in the heart of Georgetown, within walking distance to many shops and restaurants (albeit many that can be found in standard malls across the US, disappointingly), and close to major bus stops if you want to take public transportation. Staff members were helpful and friendly.

There were definitely signs of infrastructural improvements/construction occurring within the hotel --- which either could be a drawback if your experience is marred by construction or if you get one of the non-refurbished rooms --- or it could be to your benefit if you get a room that has received some updates. I think I got lucky this time, thank goodness. The room itself is worth three stars for an average rating in its current state, but I'm giving the hotel four stars to acknowledge management's earnest attempts to improve their guests' experiences.

Room Tip: Ask for an updated room

Thank you for your comments regarding your recent visit to The Georgetown Inn and for noticing some of the many improvements now taking place at our hotel. We are nearing the end of our current project to replace our entire heating ventilation and air conditioning systems. This will ensure that each future guest will have an even more enjoyable experience at our hotel; one which will offer a more personalized climate control system. We appreciate your support as we move forward with this project and other necessary improvements to our hotel. We hope to see you again soon!

The service was very poor, there was a strong smell of chemicals in the lobby, elevators, and hallways, and while the beds were comfortable there was a thick film of dust along each of the bed heads. We asked to move rooms but were told none were available because half of them were closed for construction. (We were not warned that it was under construction though we booked directly with the hotel). No one was there for check out, no valet brought the car on departure as requested in advance, and no one returned my calls though the front desk woman said they would. The location is great for seeing Georgetown, but this hotel needs a radical update. In the meantime I would avoid this hotel.

Room Tip: To be avoided.

BEWARE, This hotel has no climate control. We stayed there 2 weeks ago and thankfully there was a cool breeze on an unexpected warm weekend so I opened a window . In the winter there is only heat, summer only cool. NO thermostat in the room. The front desk manager had no time for me and responded to my complaint with disdain. The bar staff was equally as incompetent. Never again!!

The hotel is old but if you want a good deal that is walking to Georgetown shops then this the hotel for you. but expect that the hotel is a bit outdated and needs a renovation.

Good restaurant downstairs, The Daily Grill.
