“A little tired / authentic, but with such great staff!!”
Reviewed 7 November 2013

You know how sometimes you walk into a place and you might either think 'very authentic' or 'a little tired'? Well, that is a little bit how the Windsor Inn feels. And now, don't take this as a negative thing! We really enjoyed the place.

We had the bigger front room and it was fine. The street noise can keep you up at night, but that's just what it is if you stay in a bigger city. The week after I stayed at another place with double-glassed windows and the noise was really the same.

Love the staff! You have to. They are a great bunch.
Very attentive and just for the staff I'd come back!

Room Tip: There is a house cat that stays in the common area; just in case you are allergic to cats. To me it...

The cheery staff are the high point of the this period hotel that is reasonably well located for DC. Rooms are basic (there's a desk, filled with a massive TV) and the wifi is erratic but it is functional for anyone who is not spending much time in their hotel room and doesn't need reliable internet access.

Short walk to National Mall, about 1.5 miles north of White House. Not far from 2 different tube stations/ lines - U Street on the Green/Yellow and Dupont Circle on the Red (max 15 mins walk to either). Clean, friendly. Room was nice, not overly large but adequate for our needs. No tea/coffee facilities in room but there were in the reception area. The only downside was the breakfast - most mornings there was a lack of seating and often they'd run out of (plastic) cutlery. Also not much variety - only had cheerios cereal, various pastries/cakes or toast.

Room Tip: We had an ensuite.

This hotel has a convenient location on a tree-lined street close to Dupont Circle and Adams-Morgan. I got a really good price through Booking.com. As another reviewer pointed out, the property is in need of some TLC. However, it is kept spotlessly clean. In its former life, the building was probably a residence so that each room is different. I can only attest to the two in which I stayed. There was a problem with the air conditioning in the first room I had, which I reported to the front desk early in the day. Upon my return, it did not appear to have been repaired and the desk clerk on duty had no information about it. You really don't want to be without A/C in D.C. at this time of year. Later, my room was changed after I told the night clerk that someone had to take ownership of the problem. It took some prodding on my part to get him to act because he was busy "cashing out" for the next shift. You react to people the way they react to you, and we didn't get off to a good start.

The rooms are small, the bathrooms smaller and the showers were claustrophobic in the two rooms in which I stayed. Water pressure in both showers was a little low. The rooms come equipped with a hair dryer and travel size bottles of shampoo and lotion. The bed is comfortable and a down, or down-like, comforter serves as a blanket. Towels are soft and fluffy.

The free wi-fi is at times weak and unreliable. I had to switch back and forth between several of the available networks to connect and even then often the connection was very slow or would drop.

Another reviewer commented on the lack of protein at the breakfast. This is one area in which I've learned not to be disappointed. "Free" hotel breakfasts tend to be carbohydrate feasts because they're cheap and easy for the hotel. In that respect, the Windsor breakfast is no different: bread, bagels, donuts, croissants, muffins, all of which, in all fairness, seem to be a step or two above supermarket quality. Cold cereal, juice and coffee are also available. The coffee is especially good, even though there is only powdered creamer available. While I don't expect protein in the form of bacon or eggs, some fresh fruit would have been a welcome addition. The only fruit was the raisins in the raisin bran. Breakfast is served around a large dining table with additional tables just outside of the breakfast room.

I probably would have given Service four stars but for my encounter with the desk clerk who was too busy "cashing out." I don't think you tell a guest to wait until you're finished.

Room Tip: Try to choose a room in the back. The view isn't great but there's virtually no street noise...

Quaint old inn. I would go back and stay again. On street parking available but hard to find. You don't want to move your car. Just walk or take bus. Good price compared to the area and location. It needs a little TLC however decor gives it a nice feel.

I liked my room and the service. The location a nice walk to from DuPont Circle was really handy. At Breakfast there was virtually no protein and they never refilled the trays so early risers got the best pastries.

It is the cheapest one I can find in DC downtown. It about 15-20 min walk from White House. You can also take 96 bus to National Hall. Since it is cheap, of course you can't compare it with these 5-star hotel. But everything meets my expectations.
some cons:
1. AC is a bit noisy and the room is a bit hot in the summer.
2. Restroom is big but no screen for toilet. Therefore, if someone is sitting on toilet, you might have to wait. Therefore it may not be good for a big family.
But these two are not a major concern for me. We had a good time in DC.
