“Overpriced, underdelivered”
Reviewed 13 May 2014

I spent two nights at the Windsor Inn in April 2014, together with my teen age son.
From the outside, it looks like a quaint local brownstone, however, for the price, it is a truly bad deal.
No elevator, 3 stories, steep, narrow rickety stairs, a nightmare if carrying suitcases.
A room worthy of a prison, cheap mattress and bed frame, worn carpet and dust everywhere, a sink with no room for any toiletries, microscopic bathroom/shower, slow, spotty Wi-Fi. Breakfast included in the morning of such poor quality (from the coffee to the O.J. to the stale pastries) that even my son refused to touch it.
The final indignity, unforgivable: bed bugs! I was spared, my son was not, the unmistakable punctures all over his back and arms (I am a physician, I know what bed bugs bites look like..).
It certainly spoiled the fun of being in Dupont Circle: I will never go back.

I would in no way call this a "quaint historic hotel" as is referenced in other reviews. Old and awful is a better description. We were in the "garden area" which essentially meant we walked into the basement, out into an alley and then into our room. The room was tiny (no way it was a queen bed), the furniture was missing hardware and one swift kick could have done the door in. In addition, when I called to check on parking I was told there were multiple options right near by. 6 blocks away is not close in my opinion. Honestly would have taken the loss on the room cost and moved to another hotel if ANYTHING else was available.

I stayed here for one night in the fall- while this is by no means a luxury hotel, the price is right and the location is great. It's walking distance to Dupont Circle, 14th street, U street, and the metro. For a great deal and a great location in downtown DC, this is the hotel to stay in.

Sitting just at the edge of Dupont Circle, one door down from the corner of 16th and T in the north side of Washington DC, you will find a historic district laden with lovely old buildings, and Windsor Inn.

I had the pleasure of staying in this lovely old inn for several nights in mid-February. The weather was blustery and cold for this Texan but the room was comfortable and warm.

If you want to live in your room while visiting the home of this great country's foundation, you might want to stay in a fancier and more expensive room. However, if you are looking for a clean place to lie down each night after a full day of sight-seeing, then the Windsor Inn will fit your requirements very well.

The room I stayed in was at the end of a hallway that would seem short for a motel, long for a home. I walked past a room with a crying baby but when I got into my own room, I was not able to hear that baby crying. It was a lovely quiet room.

The pictures in the hallways brought the tennants back to a day when things were easy, and people were nice. The cat that lived on the premesis was kind and gentle, and very accommodating as well. Mimi is an "Aristocat" of the highest quality.

There is no smoking indoors in motels in Washington, DC, so all rooms are clean smelling too! That was a definite bonus.

I would definitely spend my sleeping hours in this Inn again if I have the chance to revisit Washington DC.

Room Tip: Be aware you need to be able to handle stairs. There is not much "first floor" accommodat...

This hotel claimed it was .7 miles from the convention center on its website but in fact its more like 2.5 miles. Strike 1

The mattress was old and the sheets were stained. I asked the chambermaid if she could change the sheets after my first night and then found the same stain in the same place when i returned
Strike 2

The 2 nights i stated were very cold nights, when i went to bed the room was cool. I woke up in the middle of the night in a sauna as they control the radiator in the room and had turned up the heat with no way to regulate it. i had to open a window and put on an air conditioner to return the temperature to a comfortable temperature.
Strike 3

The owner also owns Eldon Luxury Suites. It's obvious that he is being a slumlord with this property. The place has been totally neglected.

I would stay far away from this property.

This hotel is located on 18th street. Take a 30 minutes walk downtown and you'll find yourself at white house or at the mall. Take a 5 minute walk uptown and your at U street.
The rooms are pretty outdated but our bathroom at garden level was totally new.
We didnt take the additional breakfast.
The staff was very friendly and gave us good advice for places to eat.
You'll get 15% off at the Bier Baron restaurant bar!

Stayed here for a conference. The conference was way down by Mt. Vernon Square but the 30 minute stroll from the hotel was quite enjoyable.

The hotel is quaint and seemingly quite old. The rooms are worn but clean. The bed in my room was small (not quite full sized) but EXTREMELY comfortable. The people at the front desk were all extremely friendly and helpful.

If you're looking for a more affordable place to stay and/or you want to be in a nice area but out of the hustle and bustle of downtown but still within an enjoyable walk or short (10 min.) metro ride), i would recommend this hotel.
