“Perfect Hotel for DC vacation!”
Reviewed 19 April 2012

Spent 7 nights during Spring Break and the hotel was perfect for us! Even as a mom alone with a teen daughter, I felt safe at night and always felt confident we could get any help we needed from the front desk. The room was incredibly clean at check-in and maid service was terrific and consistent. The kitchenette with fridge/microwave/dishes/silverware was a life-saver for us. With a beautiful view and 1 block from the Metro it met all our needs. We loved "coming home" every night after a long day of sight-seeing. And, being so close to the Metro, we often came back in the middle of the day for a quick rest before dinner. We will definitely be back and have already recommended Capitol Hill Suites to my own friends!

The hotel is clean, clearly recently repainted/updated. The rooms are good, queen bed are spacious, the kitchen is small (2 chairs only) but completely equiped: fridge, microwave + over, 2 electrical "burners", plates, cutlerly, pans, even cloth to dry dished and manual dish washing liquid. On top of this, room service is doing your dishes as they do the room. full service!

Super convenient: 1 block (200m) away from the subway (itself with 1 change 30 min away from Reagan airport), 1 mile from the train station, 3 blocks from the capitol. Perfect for tourists.

staff is courteous, friendly, useful.

Tv in room also has a DVD player underneath: great to keep kids entertained.

Included breakfast was OK, not fantastic but good: boiled eggs, depending on day donuts, beignets or muffins, verious cereals incl. oatmeal, fruit salad, orange juice + another one (changing: apple, cranberry...), no water (odd), coffe, tea, hot cocoa, even cold soy milk (plain or cocoa) !

Only small things:
- pull-out bed was very "springy": we just asked for more conforters and added this as padding under the sheet and our son slept perfectly
- the rool really smell super humid and the windows would not open (but aircon worked fine). after a few minute you would not smell it but when you come in it's tough
- grocery shopping super limited around: only a smal organic supermarket 10 min walking distance.

My husband and I stayed at the Capitol Hill Suites on our first trip to Washington D.C. We were there to take in all the monuments and museums and a baseball game. The hotel itself was very nice. We drove in and found out (after running inside to the front desk) they have valet parking. The rooms were a large size with a smaller bathroom but very nice and clean. Some of the reviews I read before the trip stated there was no door on the bathroom but this was not the case. The door is hidden in the wall you just have to pull it out to shut it. The staff were pretty friendly and offered us suggestions on where to dine. We did ask for them to call us a cab one night and were told to walk up one block and hail one instead that it would be faster and it worked out just fine.
The bus tours start at Union Station which is about 6 blocks from the hotel so its a bit of a walk. The only attraction close is the library of congress. There are not many close restaurants or bars close to the hotel either as it is in a residential area. We took a cab to eat or would hop on the metro which is only 2 blocks away. If this hotel were in a better location we would stay here again.

Thank you for your recent review and for choosing Capitol Hill Suites for your Hotel accommodations on your first trip to Washington, DC.

We are pleased to hear that you loved the nice, clean room and enjoyed the friendliness of our staff. I am a little dissappointed though to learn that you did not find our location ideal for the purpose of your visit as most of our guests report that most of the attractions and historical sights are within walking distance to the hotel.

Nevertheless, we thank you for sharing your experience and trust that you will give us another opportunity to make future visits more memorable for you.

We stayed 6 nights at Capitol Hill Suites in a King size suite. This hotel fit our most important needs: really excellent location, super comfortable bed, and excellent complimentary breakfast. In addition, the suite we stayed in was quiet, the staff were extremely nice and helpful, we liked the vibe of the place, and the neighborhood has a great feeling too.

Some thoughts for prospective travelers: bathroom is small, furniture is outdated. Grocery shopping is not super convenient. Lots of nightlight (bars) are a few blocks away - so often eateries are crowded at night.

Some negatives: View wasn't great - but understand other units have great views. Kitchenette is really so basic it barely qualifies, so extended stay with the larger size kitchen would be better. This is one of those types of hotels that is older and has been remodeled many times, so don't be surprised by the occasional water damage, and dinginess here and there. Also the sofa bed is not very comfortable, so beware.

Overall the value for it's location is excellent, and you are just a block away from the metro. We highly recommend this hotel, especially if you are looking for a great place to stay just a 10 minute walk from the capitol.

Room Tip: Check in early or try to request a view room. Request a larger kitchenette if staying with a family.

This is a great hotel just one block from the Metro and two blocks from the Capitol and Library of Congress. Within walking distance to the Mall. The staff were very frindly and professional. Breakfast was very good. The rooms were clean and modern although this is an older hotel. I will definately stay here again next trip to D.C.

Room Tip: Use the Metro and visit the Eastern Market.

We stayed in the Capitol Hill Suites one night. The people at the front desk did not answer the phone when we tried calling from our room which wasn't too big of a deal. HOWEVER the valet parking that cost us over $30 took the GPS from our car! The hotel did nothing about it. The clerk at the desk gave us the assistant managers number after we had to ask him for it. His response to our situation was "I'm not sure what to do". After talking to this assistant manager twice she informed us our only option was to file a police report in hopes that the hotel MIGHT be able to refund us the money for the GPS. She also finally agreed to refund us the money we paid for our parking "in good faith" as she stated. She was rude about the entire situation! Not to mention that we were 8 hours from home. They never offered us a free night for the night we stayed or a free night knowing we had an 8 hour drive ahead of us! Terrible. Thought the location was great but I will never stay here or suggest anyone ever stay here!

Dear "Meadows2407",
Thank you for sharing your concerns about your recent experience at our hotel. I apologize for the service issues noted and take full responsibility for researching and addressing each item. I have already confirmed that a member of my management team followed up with you on 4/15/12 and confirmed that the parking attendant removed your GPS device from your windshield/dashboard and placed it under the seat. This should have been communicated to you so I apologize for the misunderstanding and inconvenience.

Again I thank you for taking the time to bring some awareness to some of your experiences. Please feel free to contact me directly at iharvey@capitolhillsuites.com.

Worst hotel! Not only did I have to take a cold shower and the elevator was broken. The associate that checked me out ran my card twice and I still haven't received a refund! That was SIX MONTHS AGO! They refused to respond to me, and did not respond to the Better Business Bureau!
