“Fine & Funky!”
Reviewed 8 August 2011

This grand old relic has a fantastic location in the heart of town, about midway from the Capitol and the White House, just a short walk to the Mall.

If you can handle the funky old configurations of the rooms, which are definitely worn, you get a great value. We had a family room- which was actually to adjoining rooms each with it's own potty. Great value for two couples traveling together.

We also ate several meals at the hotel, Harry's, on the street was great!

We are a family of 5 and wanted to stay in one room for a weekend trip to DC. They had rooms with three beds, which is perfect. The hotel is old and certainly no-frills, but everything was clean and all the staff were friendly. You cannot beat this location. We were 2 to 3 blocks from 2 different Metro stops. There were several restaurants within walking distance running the gamut of cheap to moderate to more elegant. You can walk to the National Mall or the White House in under 10 minutes. We also walked to Capitol Hill in about 20 minutes (we probably could have saved time and rode the Metro, but it was an easy walk). The hotel is in a bustling neighborhood and we never felt unsafe, even at night .

I was nervous because of some bad reviews, but decided to give it a try because of the price, parking arrangements, and location! SO glad we did! Air conditioning worked (thankfully, since it was over 100 degrees when we visited). Our room was clean, huge (two queens and a single for me, my husband, and two teenagers). We were on the sixth floor and it was very quiet. Our view wasanother building, but this made our room extrememly quiet, no street noise. Room has an electric kettle for tea and coffee, fridge, iron, and hair dryer. Front desk staff were friendly and helpful. There are three restaurants and a gift shop in the building. Convenient to many other restaurants, sights, and stores. You just cannot beat the location and price! Parking was 15$ a day, as opposed to 45$ at another hotel we looked into. As other reviews mention, it is an older hotel (white and black tile bathrroom, slightly dated patterns on the bedspreads and rugs) but perfectly fine and CLEAN! I recommend this hotel for anyone!

Good place to main DC attractions. The soom, though not big, is just suitable for a family of three with a kid aged 13. The breakfast in the lobby floor is convennient. You can walk to all attractions almostly. Highly recommended.

The Harrington was perfect for our purposes - which was to have somewhere to lay our head after a day of sight-seeing. It's in a central location and was heaps cheaper than the other hotels in Washington DC, which are generally very pricey. The bed was comfortable enough and the rooms were clean but tiny. The TV was ancient and had terrible reception but was watchable. I recommend this place if you're looking for somewhere practical and reasonably priced. No frills attached!

The Harrington is steps away from everything worth seeing, this is the most important part (for my husband and I, anyway). If you are looking for a spa-like retreat, this hotel is not for you.
The hotel is old and run-down (some might find this charming?), but the staff is cheerful and helpful. Because of its central location, book early - we stayed there at the end of May 2011 and there were at least 2 large groups of teenagers staying there (we're talking 60-75 people per group) and the hotel was booked solid.
Our small queen room faced a brick wall (it was on the inside of the building, on the 9th floor) but we did not hear a sound from the busy streets below (this was a common complaint we overheard from other guests - the hotel is at a very busy intersection in Washington DC's business district)
There is no parking on the premises, their parking garage is about two blocks away, a brisk 5 minute walk from the hotel; they charge $15 per day. It is best to park the car and walk, as almost everything you want is very close by, including shopping, restaurants, coffee shops and monuments.
There are two restaurants downstairs, one a breakfast place (which we did not visit) and sports bars with mediocre food, tired wait staff and $12 pitchers of beer.
We would definitely stay here again, you can't beat that location!

I work for a 6 week university-affiliated summer program that has been staying at the Hotel Harrington for over five years. I am writing this review after being moved to a different room by hotel staff upon discovering my bed INFESTED with bed bugs.

I stayed in a quad on the third floor and woke up the next morning covered in large, red welts on my forearms, hands, legs, and torso. My roommate tried to convince me these were spider bites, and I would have believed her had I not woken up the second night and seen these things crawling around near my face.

They were present in all three single beds as well as the double bed. The desk receptionist seemed reluctant to assist me, even after I showed him the allergic reaction and bites on my body, until he found out that we had taken photographic "evidence" of the bugs in the bed and on our pillows...
