This is the second time we stayed here..perfectly safe and convenient to walk just about everywhere...the staff was very friendly and the manager even honored a lower special rate that wasn't available when we made our reservation..hotel isn't fancy but it is clean and very accomodating for families..we will always return here when we visit D.C.

we spent 4 nights in a family room (2 communicating rooms - 5 persons).
the fridge was very noisy, the air conditionned is either too cold or not cool enough.
the bed linen was clean.
very very small bathrooms.
receptionist never smiles, but gave us a lot of information about Washington DC.
the breakfast was really bad, don't take it in the hotel.
nter
in conclusion, it's good for the price you pay in such a hotel in Whashington DC center

If you like history and convenience this is your place. It is around 90 years old and has only had like 3 General Managers. It is clean, comfortable, safe and convenient to everything. But has not been updated in 90 years. (except they added ac). If you are looking for fancy this is not the place but I will give up fancy any day for this location. Walk to the White House, Ford's Theater, etc. There are two great restaurants on the groud floor. It is old but it is like going back in time 90 years. If it was renovated it would be breathtaking but then I couldn't afford to stay there so I'll take it just like it is. Just be prepared. It is old. Lots of character.

I would stay here any time

Stayed at the Harrington for 5 nights for a convention. The hotel is in a central location for many of the tourist attractions and within walking distance to the convention center. It is old with basic amenities but if you are okay with something that isn't fancy (and doesn't have a fancy price) then this hotel is for you. My room was small and clean and well maintained by housekeeping. There is a restaurant downstairs where you can buy breakfast. There is also a bar (Harry's) where you can buy a meal and drinks. Staff was friendly, polite and helpful. Parking is not onsite; you go about 4 blocks away to park the car in an underground parking.

Room Tip: Was on 7th floor and didn't hear the music in the bar. Not sure if it is a problem at lower lev...

We were greeted by a horrible sewer smell in the lobby, and not even a hello by the front desk staff. There were numerous stains on the floors, mold and other stains on our curtains, the pillows stunk, there were food crumbs in one of the beds, "fur" growing out of the a/c vent, exposed electrial wires everywhere, and when we asked to borrow an extension cord as there was only one available outlet in our room, we were told they were banned from the hotel (which told us the electrical was not up to par). For $30 more, we left the hotel and went to the Grand Hyatt, which was a great hotel, only a couple blocks away, and we had an excellent stay. And it was CLEAN! We took photos of everything to back up our complaints and will be forwarding them to our travel agent, who was not pleased to hear what poor condition this place is in.

I was very nearly put off from staying at the Harrington because of some of the reviews on this site, but thank goodness I wasn't. If you are looking for a room similar to what you would get at the Hilton or equivalent then don't come here but I wasn't and just wanted somewhere clean, safe and close to all attractions and this hotel definitely fits the bill. The decor in the rooms is tired but everything was perfectly clean and the bed was very comfortable. I found the Reception staff to be extremely helpful and the car park was a short walk away and was very reasonably priced.

I heard no noise at all in my room. The air conditioning was very effective, albeit a little noisy, which was a welcome relief from the 100 degree + heat outside. The bed was comfortable and there were no bed bugs at all.

I'm pleased that the hotel is a little old fashioned. If it wasn't they could charge much more than they do and those of us on a budget wouldn't be able to afford to stay.

I was a lone female traveller and felt extremely safe. The location is within very easy walking distance to all attractions and also to the metro station, for trips further afield.

Don't be put off by the reviews, stay here if you want affordable accommodation in a great location. It surpassed my expectations.

This grand old relic has a fantastic location in the heart of town, about midway from the Capitol and the White House, just a short walk to the Mall.

If you can handle the funky old configurations of the rooms, which are definitely worn, you get a great value. We had a family room- which was actually to adjoining rooms each with it's own potty. Great value for two couples traveling together.

We also ate several meals at the hotel, Harry's, on the street was great!
