Our first impression of the hotel was how friendly the reception staff are - they juggled our rooms around and managed to get us two adjoining: a lovely suite for my husband and me (room 525), and a twin suite for our teenage daughters (526). Our suite had a seating area (sofa and chair), plus a desk, 2 TVs (which was amusing as they were only 6ft apart so it might have been tricky to watch 2 different programmes!), a massive bed, a fridge and a microwave, and an iron and ironing board. The best bit of all was that the bathroom next to the bed had a bath/shower, loo and basin (but not much storage space), but there was an extra loo and basin the other end of the suite, with masses of storage space! Glorious .. I could spread all my toiletries out in the extra cloakroom and only use the bathroom for my showers .. marital harmony guaranteed :) We did have a balcony, but the door had been nailed shut (we guessed that maybe there had been a break-in in the past), which was a bit frustrating.

The girls' room had two double beds, a large desk with TV and plenty of storage space, and a bath/shower room with loo and basin, plus an extra basin and mirror outside.

The only downsides to our rooms were that (1) they were directly opposite the lift, which meant that we heard the "ping" every time the lift arrived at our floor, plus we were subjected to the usual inconsiderate people talking at normal volume while they waited for the lift, even late at night and very early in the morning, and (2) the air conditioning was a little flaky - it was hard to get the right temperature and the system was incredibly clanky. We got used to it after the first night (we stayed for 6 nights).

The hotel décor could do with a bit of attention, but the facilities were really impressive. The pool on the roof is - again - basic, but perfectly adequate and an absolute joy after a hot day sightseeing. The pool is a good size and there's quite a lot of seating around the edges. Small towels are provided free for the time you're up there. The views are quite good too. On the 9th floor there is a complimentary laundry room (by which I mean that use of the two washers and two dryers is free!) - you need either to pay for washing powder from the little vending unit in the room, buy some locally, or (best of all) bring your own. American washing powder is, in my experience, pretty insipid .. take some Bold liquid tabs with you! The machines are new, clean and quick .. obviously you need to plan your wash time so that it doesn't coincide with everyone else's. This was a massive advantage for us, since we had packed quite a small amount of clothing to save on luggage weight for the flight.

The bar area isn't very appealing, but breakfast is plentiful and the serving staff are friendly and helpful. You can get free tea and coffee from a machine in the lobby, and take it up to your room or drink it in the bar area. Nice feature, since there is no kettle in the room, only a rather cheap percolator which we avoided using.

The Whole Foods Market on P Street is fantastic for absolutely everything: bottled water, fresh fruit, snacks, take-away healthy hot and cold meals .. all the things you need to boost your stay. Hotel staff are happy to direct you there and don't try to persuade you to eat only at the hotel.

We had a hire car during our stay, and the parking area below the hotel is very convenient. The spaces are small and not terribly easy to manoeuvre into and out of, but that's what you'd expect in a city hotel. You're only a few blocks' walk from the White House and all the other DC attractions, so we didn't use the subway or the buses, but it was handy to drive to Alexandria, Georgetown and Arlington Cemetery.

I would certainly stay in this hotel again, and would recommend it to anyone as a base for sightseeing or work in DC.

Room Tip: I can recommend 525 and 526 to couples travelling with teenage children, as we were - they adjoin (a...

we stayed in this hotel one night right before theJuly 4th weekendthe hotel was very busy yet staff took the time to meet ourevery needthe kids loved the rooftop pool. My son put his ipod in the room safe and then could not get the safe open.
The front desk manager as well as the maintenance staff took about 30 minutes to fix the problem. They were as nice as could be and very apologetic. The front desk manager gave us complimentary breakfast tickets to compensate us for our trouble. The only part about this hotel that we really did not like is the parking garage. The spaces are very small and it's difficult to get in and out. of.

We had an excellent stay at this location. It is a great value for it's location, which is how you have to look at it. The staff is great and was really helpful, check in and out were easy. The rooftop pool was nice, though it opens kind of late, 10am and closes at dusk. The building is a little aging but the rooms are updated. A better value for breakfast is the Whole Foods around the corner, which is cheaper (ikr) and much bigger. Great neighborhood, comfortable rooms, nice staff at an excellent price make this a great choice.

Room Tip: We were high up, so it was very quiet.

My friend and I stayed here for three nights and would recommend this hotel. The staff were friendly and helpful and we had a room with two double beds which were very comfy. We were on the fifth floor and our room was toward the back of the hotel so it was lovely and quiet. We didn't get chance to try out the roof top pool as we were too busy seeing the sights. The McPherson metro station is only a few blocks away and the metro is definitely the best way to get around to see the sights. We found a good restaurant called Logan's Tavern only a block away and there were more around Connecticut Street which was about a ten minute walk away. I would happily stay here again if I go back to Washington.

We had preebooked a room 9 months ahead of our stay. We are 5 persons, 3 adult and 2 teenagers. We booked one room with two queen beds, assuming that we would rent at rollaway bed for the 5.person.
When we arrived in the afternoon they said they dident have any spare rollaways! We tried to explain that our three kids (22,13 and 11) could not possibly share one bed. They didnt seem to care to much.... they would try to get us one the next day.
we tried the sharing but our son ended up sleeping on the floor..
In the morning we went to the front desk and met the very friendly and helpful morning staff, Joseph and his colleague. They where very sorry for the bad service and that we would get a rollaway bed the same day without charging us for it. Unfortunately the rollaway best was the worst bed ever!

The there where the card keyes newer working when we came back to the hotel in the evenings. They blamed it on the mobilephones and such, but this is very strange...never been a problem in other hotels. The rrom was not very clean, they had not vacuumed the carpet under the furnitures and thats not so good for my dust allergy.

The breakfast only for two people. We got breakfast for the rest of us 5 at the Whole foods market just around the corner, best store ever!!

When we where cheking out they had charged us for the rollaway bed after all!! But again the morning staff, Joseph an his colleague, fixet it and told us that they where very sorry about this.

The location was great (only a few blocks north of the White House). Staff was friendly and helpful. However the rooms were too small and was missing the fridge that the hotel's website said the room would have. Parking was a nightmare, as there was barely enough spots.

Room Tip: One side of the building has a view of the Washington Monument
