“Big rooms, small baths, weird bar”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 7 December 2013

Second time staying here. Supposed to be the upper scale marriott brand. Valet parking is a staggering 49 dollars with tax!!!
Rooms big and well appointed. Beds very comfortable. The bar in the hotel is a low point. Again, second time there and service is abysmally slow. What's worse, it's dirty! Bits of food on the floor and carpets from a busy night, but come on!!!! Someone grab a barroom and dustpan and pick up theCHICKEN AND PIECE OF ROLL UNDER THE COCKTAIL TABLE!!!!????

We stayed at the JW Marriott in Washington DC over Thanksgiving weekend.
We received adjoining rooms as requested on a lower floor also as requested.
The staff was friendly and efficient. The hotel lobby is lovely and was decorated for the holidays.
There was a security officer at the main entrance checking guests' room keys when we returned around midnight one evening.
Only 4 miles from DCA. Walking distance to many tourist sights. Will return for next DC visit

We stopped for a quick one night stay in DC. This hotel has very nice rooms, was adequately priced, is in a perfect location and had great room service. The valet fees are ridiculously high but overall, we had a very nice experience.

We have stayed at many JW properties. This one had a great location for all those doing the touristy things in DC. We had Thanksgiving Dinner in the restaurant--just OK. The room service food was quite poor. There is a Starbucks onsite, nice. Beds small--full beds and not queens. Small bathrooms. Overall, a good value at approximately 200 per night for a city hotel with a great location. It was a plus having an indoor pool for the kids as well. Also, we left the maid a 20 dollar tip on Thanksgiving and asked her to clear some used glases from the room (left a note). The 20 dollar bill disappeared but the used glasses did not. The location and value take this from 3 to 4 stars for me.

My wife and I have been Platinum rewards members for several years and generally use Omni and Marriott.

For this Thanksgiving Week stay, we pre-paid as far back as August. Our experiences with JW's and Marriott has almost always been good but this was definitely the negative exception all in only a lil over 24 hours.

1. On the night of our arrival, we get locked out of our room. Appears the electronic scanner for the door was malfunctioning. Spent 20-30 min trying to access room. Had to be repaired/replaced the next day. We did NOT complain.

2. The iron had corrosion on the hot plate and left it all over my brand new sweater. Even with this we still did NOT complain or ask for dry cleaning.

3. My wife grabs a can of Pringles from the minibar, opens the plastic lid only to find the aluminum seal broken and half the can already eaten. She called room service, orders a pizza and lets the attendant know about the Pringles. The attendant explained the sensor on the minibar already billed us for the Pringles. My wife re-conveyed the fact the Pringles were already opened and not by us. The attendant proceeded to offer up an education on the non-complimentary nature of minibar items (are you kidding me).

At this point I speak to the front desk manager only to find an attitude of indifference and apathy. There was no genuine concern or sincerity made exceptionally clear as she dismissed the incident with the Pringles as "we explain that to all our guests."

She didn't offer a gesture of concern like perhaps an apologetic note for the bad stay.

No longer feeling welcome at the property, the next morning we walked across the street to the Historic Willard Intercontinental (built in 1850), paid more than double per night for each remaining night in our stay and were treated wonderfully.

For the first time after years of being Platinum members, I called corporate because it was unthinkable to have 3 issues in 24 hours and be dismissed by management.

They contacted the hotel and the Assistant GM reached out the next day. He was kind, gracious and understanding and if that had been the response of the initial manager we would have never left.

Incidentally, after our experience I checked the reviews here and saw similar issues with staff indifference and the minibar sensors.

I often travel to DC and this was the first time I stayed at the JW Marriott. It is a bit pricey, but the location is phenomenal. There are so many good restaurants in the immediate area, easy access to 2 Metro stations, close to the National Mall and White House and so on. If you are visiting the area as a tourist or on business, it is hard to go past the location of the hotel. Check-in and check-out were swift, easy and painless. I was unimpressed that the price of the rooms did not include wifi, but that is one of my pet peeves in staying at hotels everywhere. In this day and age, charging extra for wifi is unnecessary. The rooms are well appointed, clean and had comfortable beds. If I can afford it, I will definitely stay here again.

JW Marriott surpassed our expectations. Terrific location to either walk to the main sights in DC or hop on the Metro. Staff very helpful and friendly. We had a connecting room with wonderful views. We also had access to concierge lounge which provided great snacks or even dinner! Lovely breakfast & desserts . Most DEFINITELY will stay here again.
