Stayed here 4 nights. Staff was amazing, Room was very comfortable. They were renovating and doing major construction and you would have never known from our room. Great location and great history in the building.

Our first visit to DC...we chose the Morrison-Clark Inn because the reviews sounded like a place we could call home for 4 days...SO perfect for us! We love a place we can feel warm and safe, but we don't need a pool, dining, and other fancy frills. From the moment the doorman greeted us after a long bus ride until the morning we left, it was more personal than we expected. EVERY staff person had a smile and a genuine interest in helping us find our way. We regret not writing writing down ALL their names??? Phyllis and Jessica at the front desk, Casseed (sp?) at the door...WHO is their customer service trainer???? A+ in customer service! Did the Morrison-Clark train their staff or were they just lucky to find outstanding people?
A fifteen minute walk to the central metro or Mt Vernon metro and a few early-closing eateries. Not much going on late night in this neighborhood but it was OK for us since we spent the entire day elsewhere and returned to the Inn at night for a quiet time.

We were told upon booking that there was construction going on, no problem for us, we made a positive out of that. Casseed showed us around and we learned a lot about the history of Morrison-Clark as well as seeing plans for the future addition (hope the OLD decor and courtyard gardens stay in the Inn though).

Our 4th floor parlor suite was awesome, a view of 11th street with a morning waking-view of trees and sunrise through French doors. All amenities you need with Wi-Fi, fridge, in-room safe (fyi, if it matters, the TV is in parlor, not bedroom). Anything else you need, just ask at the front desk!

Continental breakfast was enough for us, muffins, toast, cereal, fresh fruit, and coffee was delicious! If we were forced to make a request, we probably would ask for yogurt, a trashcan and a cart to place used dishes.
Overall, an excellent hotel experience! We hope the Morrison-Clark keeps their prices in the "value" range for future visits.

Room Tip: During construction the 11th street view is better than L street. Otherwise, it doesn't matter...

Helen S,
It’s great to hear that our Inn was such a perfect fit for you during your trip to DC. Feedback about our team is always the best compliment and Phyllis, Jessica, and Gadessa will be grateful to know you recognized them in your review. We strive to provide the very best customer service and it’s always wonderful to hear our guests acknowledge the team’s accomplishments. Our Historic Inn - the original two townhouses and the addition put on by the Soldiers’ Sailors’, Marines’ and Airmens’ Club, has a colorful history filled with local entrepreneurs, first ladies, armed forces, celebrities, and many political figures. As we expand into the 1700s carriage house (one of the oldest buildings in DC), and into the former Chinese Community Church, we are looking forward to adding to the pages of our history book. These new properties are of great historical significance and we intend to keep it alive just as we have the original buildings. We look forward to having you back the next time you visit DC so that you may see how we kept our Asian-Victorian décor and expanded our Courtyard!

The Morrison-Clark Inn exceeded my expectations at every turn. The room was very large and well appointed with a bed that I could sleep in for several days (I don't normally sleep well in hotels.) The location downtown is close to many businesses as well as Chinatown and the Verizon Center.

The staff anticipated my needs and provided superior service in every case.

Room Tip: There is construction ongoing for the expansion and also in the street. Ask for a room away from the...

Fusedmind,
Thank you for your great review! Our beds are very comfortable and with Italian Frette linens freshly made daily, it makes for a luxurious night’s sleep. As you mentioned, we are just a few blocks from Chinatown and the Verizon center – a hub for great food of all cuisines. I hope you were able to get around town to enjoy what the neighborhood has to offer. We look forward to having you back and once again exceeding your expectations.

We were in town for a conference in late February/early March. We knew that the Inn was under construction and that there were concerns about noise. We were awake early and while there was some construction noise due to the Inn's huge renovation/enlargement project, we used ear plugs and slept just fine. The proprietors offered a lovely breakfast during this project and coffee and cookies were available through the day. The Inn is a lovely historic building that is very close to the Convention Center and many amenities. We enjoyed our stay very much and would not hesitate to return. We felt the staff was excellent, friendly and helpful--and we are fussy about accommodations. We felt the room was more than adequate and quite typical of a historic hotel or inn.

Barb H,

Thank you for your great review of our Inn! I'll be sure to pass along to the staff the kinds words you had to say about them. We love to hear when our hotel meets or exceeds our guests expectations, especially from those who travel to other historic properties and are particular about the quality of their accommodations. We look forward to having you as our guest again if your travels bring you back to DC!

The hotel has a Victorian Era feel to it. The rooms were of a decent size. While the ventilation leaves a little to be desired, the location is really good.

From the hotel, it is a very short walk to Chinatown, the Convention Center, and other attractions. It is about a 30-minute walk to the White House from the hotel.

The staff is really nice, but because the restaurant was closed due to renovations at the hotel, the breakfast buffet was lacking. I get the "work in progress" feel but the experience could have been better.

If you are going to the convention center and running out of options, you can do a lot worse than this place. The price vs. value is not as good as I would have hoped but in a pinch this place will work.

James B,

Thank you for taking the time to write a view of our hotel. I'm happy to hear you were able to appreciate the charm of our Victorian Era rooms and utilize our great location to tour the city. I'm sorry to hear the breakfast wasn't as expected. If you're in the DC area in the future, we'd love to have you back to experience us firing on all cylinders again.

Pros:
a) Historic building
b) Location
c) Service and behaviors of the staffs

Cons:
a) Expensive
b) Terrible rooms
c) Poor breakfast
d) Slowest wifi

In other words, there is no reason to stay in this hotel, if someone MUST stay in a historic building. Staffs are really nice. But what can they do if "Inn" does not have offer any facility. And it is not cheap either.

PuraAula,

Thank you for the feedback of our hotel and staff. I'm happy to hear our staff were accommodating and that you enjoyed the location and ambiance of our Historic Inn. I am disappointed to hear that some parts of your stay were less than acceptable. Often times we are able to trouble shoot WiFi issues had we known you were experience a slow connection. If we get the opportunity to have you as our guest again, please let us know about any potential issue and we will work diligently to resolve them.

We recently stayed at the Morrison Clark hotel in Washington DC. It is within walking distance to many of the areas attractions (if you like to walk). It is about 4 blocks to the nearest Metro line (which is a great way to get around the DC area). Continental breakfast was weak, but the coffee was good. Their web page says "laundry and dry cleaning" service, but this means local companies pick it up and bring it back (no in-site capability). A coin laundromat is a block away. The room was OK, cozy. Could not watch TV from the bed. The bed was a bit lumpy but OK. Interior is charming, but we didn't hang in there much. Pricing was reasonable for a downtown venue. Construction going on right in front so the main entrance was not accessible. Noise was not an issue (since we were out and about all day anyway). Surrounding area is not the best, but we didn't encounter any issues. Staff was very friendly.

Ddrw,

Thank you for taking the time to write this review and passing along these tips about the hotel and the area. We are close to Metro, which is an ideal way to get around the city. The laundry and dry cleaning at the hotel is full service - guests may drop their items off in the morning and we will have them cleaned and delivered to their room that afternoon. Our neighborhood, bordering the Penn Quarter and Shaw Districts, is a wonderful mix of businesses and families. Penn Quarter is well known for it's restaurants, culture, and entertainment venues. Shaw is mainly known as a residential area full of Victorian Era town homes such as ours. Being situated between the tourist areas of DC and the residential side, we find that guests love being able to feel like they're getting to know the real DC.
I hope that if you visit Washington, DC in the future you will consider staying with us again.
