We really enjoyed our stay at The Normandy. The staff are friendly, welcoming and helpful at every opportunity. Our room was finished to a high standard (with a very welcome Nespresso machine) and the beds were super comfortable. A particular highlight was the rain shower and l'Occitane toiletries - an example of the small touches which made our stay so enjoyable.

We took advantage of 'Wine Hour' and enjoyed a high quality, good-value breakfast too. Speaking of food, the hotel is in close proximity (5-10 minute walk) of a large variety of diverse bar and restaurant options.

The hotel is a little bit out of town in a leafy suburb surrounded by beautiful town-houses and embassies. We enjoyed our walk into the City each morning but there are metro stations near-by too. We're glad we stayed here and thoroughly recommend The Normandy to other travellers.

PARKING - an important issue if you're staying in DC. Here they get an additional $34 per night (=$40 with tax). Most hotels will charge for parking here, so you should factor this in before you decide. Parking on the street is NOT an option unless you get in late and leave early. Now for the hotel itself:
PRO: Front desk is VERY helpful. Location is good (but there are a some even closer for in the same price range). They have a wine hour from 5 to 6pm (but we were never there). Rooms were recently renovated. Nesspresso coffee makers. CONS: SMALL rooms. Parking (see above), Noisy (you can hear every thing in the hallway - there is a gap under the door). Lobby is cumbersome, steps up and down - if you need ADA, this won't work well.

Dear Kevin C, Thank you for reviewing our hotel. We were pleased that you found the front desk VERY helpful when you needed them and that you were able to enjoy our Nespresso machines. We're sorry about parking in the area but in most areas of DC, on street parking is rather difficult. Parking prices, in our area of town, range from $34 to $45 per night + tax. I would like to clarify a point you made about us not being for those those that have ADA needs. We do have a rather large ramp, from the street, that brings you directly to the front desk. If one continues past the desk, they will be lead to the elevator and not have to deal with the steps in the main lobby. We hope that the parking situation in the area doesn't stop you from staying with us again and we hope to have you back soon.

The Normandy is a lovely place to stay in Washington, very reasonably priced, great location and friendly, helpful staff.
Pro's
Location - loads of bars and restaurants nearby, 10 min walk to Dupont Circle so easy for getting around. Only a mile from the White House so we did lots of our sightseeing on foot.
Public areas of the hotel are very tastefully decorated and furnished which gives the hotel a luxury feel. Outside patio was comfortable and a nice place to sit and chat to other guests.
Very friendly and helpful staff.
Free wine hour 4pm - 5pm each evening, no restrictions, a choice of red or white wine and cheese FREE
Free and fast wifi
Fridge in the room
Con's
We had a reservation for a superior room, it was nicely furnished and decorated, the bathroom and shower were lovely but the room was small (too small for 2 adults with luggage), there was very little hanging space and only bedside drawers so most things had to stay in the cases. The bed was too soft for me.
Overall we enjoyed our stay here and would definitely stay again, the only reason I haven't given 5 stars is the size of the room and lack of hanging space - 4 hangers for 2 adults is not sufficient

The Normandy is a very nice Hotel. Very comfortable and a great location. They have complimentary wine everyday from 5-6pm. Only downfall for us is that they did not have a continental breakfast. They offered you a cold breakfast for $12. A lot to pay for a breakfast that is not hot or served to you. So we opted out of that. But all-in-all, very pleased with the room. Would stay there again!

Dear Kathy S, Thank you for your recent review of The Normandy. We were pleased to read that you enjoyed our rooms and found them comfortable. We are sorry that our continental breakfast wasn't to your liking. In our area, a continental breakfast is generally a cold breakfast consisting of fruits, cereals, breakfast breads, juices, hard boiled eggs and such. We are, however, looking to make a few improvements in the very near future. We truly hope that the next time you travel through the area, you choose to stay with us again.

The Normandy is in the embassy-rich Kalorama area of DC. The hotel has nice public spaces including a breakfast room adjoining an interior courtyard. The reception is pleasant. The rooms are small (varying from very small to OK) with lovely decor and superb bathrooms. Unfortunately, the mechanical systems are old and noisy. At night the choice was to loose sleep from being to warm or from the high noise level of the AC system Opening the window was not an option because a mechanical system in the courtyard is also noisy. Perhaps it would be acceptable if you bring earplugs. For the price there ate far better options in DC. Parking - even on weekends - is very tight.

Dear Surlyprof, Thank you for taking the time to write your review of our property. We were happy to read that you found the staff pleasant and the decor lovely. We are sorry that you found the A/C too noisy. This is the time of year where we are servicing all the units, so the noisier ones should be back to operating more quietly. We are sorry for the inconvenience you experienced during your stay with us. We do hope that the next time you visit DC, you give us another chance.

Annual or sometimes semi annual trips to the nation capital have been routine ever since my daughter resettled there. We have been at quite a few hotels but the Normandy was always a satisfying destination considering quality and price. The amenities in the rooms are great. I couldn't recall wanting or needing something and not being able to procure it from the room or by asking the reception desk. It's super comfortable, from the bed, temperature regulation, super bathroom, to minor items like the coffee maker, mini fridge and iron board nicely tucked in the closet. The neighborhood is quiet, green and shady, surrounded by embassies and consulates. If you are Francophile the Alliance Francaise is a few houses away down Wyoming. The hotel offers complimentary breakfast, and free wine in the late afternoon (between 5-7 PM if I recall correctly). No in-house restaurant, but you can have your pick walking down Connecticut Av, just around the corner. It's not a big hotel so don't look for large business conference rooms and the likes. The reception and guest areas are intimately furnished and quiet, conducive to private conversations and business dealings. The staff was always friendly and efficient. I highly recommend the hotel to efficient travelers looking for a comfortable place to stay in a great DC neighborhood.

Dear chop04, thank you for your review of The Normandy. We were happy to read that you had a quick check in, found the staff friendly and had an enjoyable stay with us.
