Omni Shoreham Hotel

The outside and garden are very impressive. The inside is a little dated. Room on ground floor in wing to the left of reception. Quite a distance . Was full of a convention of Jehovas Witnesses on first night and African Business leaders on the second day.

This is my favorite hotel. The grand building has been renovated so you get spacious comfortable rooms and large public spaces. The location is excellent, the service likewise, and the swimming pool perhaps the best in the city. I stay here when attending a profession convention and that makes the rate quite reasonable. Look for special deals. Rooms are spacious, beds comfortable, bathrooms very good.

I usually prefer to stay in modern hotels, but we booked our family holiday to the USA via a travel agent who was well versed in our interests. She suggested this hotel and I assumed that we would not be impressed.

However I must say there is something grand and Kennedy-ish about this hotel; even though its decor is not modern. The hotel is well maintained and I guess attempts to align with a certain era.

The service was really great. You get standard four star features. Access to a well equipped gym and pool and its relatively easy to commute from the hotel. The metro is a stone's throw away; while across the street there is an array of restaurants for you to grab some breakfast or have an early American dinner.

The Concierge services were very efficient as well. Navigating us from outlet shops to monuments. Their knowledge of the city was vast and I left DC feeling I'd accomplished touristy things and personal adventures.

The Omni Shoreham Hotel provides a very comfortable stay. It's definitely worth an experience.

Room Tip: Select a room that's facing the poolside. This hotel has good rooms all round and street traffic...

Not sure why this place gets such a high percentage of "excellent" ratings. For our family stay, it seemed a little dated: older lobby, dated furnishings, room showed some wear and tear, especially the balcony area. It looked like a work horse hotel for large conventions. Our son, however, LOVED the outdoor heated pool and hot tub which was open when we visited in April and may be open year round. Also, close location to the zoo was a plus. By comparison, we visited friends staying at the Fairmont and thought that hotel was much newer/nicer.

I stayed here for a large professional meeting over Labor Day week-end. The hotel is impressive looking and in a great location -- easy walks to nice restaurants, lively area, near the zoo. Room was smallish (could use more workspace) but comfortable and extremely quiet. My room was on the first floor. I hate taking an elevator for just one floor, was happy to find a convenient stairway. But here's the big negative -- the stairway smelled really bad, like rotting meat. Hope the hotel can address this problem.

I stayed here for a conference, and really enjoyed it. It is an old hotel, and the rooms show it in some details. The place is very well maintained. The rooms are on the large side, have extremely comfortable king beds, and there is lots of hot water available in the showers.

My room was on the seventh floor and had a very nice view of the Connecticut Street Bridge over Rock Creek Park, plus a peek of the top of the Washington Monument through a break in the trees. The people who worked there were invariably nice, helpful, and competent. The room was clean and I had no complaints at all. I enjoyed my time there, and thought that it was worth the money.

Others have complained about the limited number of elevators, and while their complaints might well be justified, it was never a problem for me.

My only gripe is expensive wifi, which I think is a shame at what is otherwise such a nice hotel.

This Omni Shoreham is a very good hotel for working, visiting, and relaxing in Washington D.C. The hotel is located in the Woodley Park Northwest Section of Washington, D.C. The Woodley Park Metro stop (Red Line) is approximately 2 blocks from the Metro right off Calvert Street. (When you exit the Metro either go to the right and go down 4-6 steps, follow the sidewalk past the Irish restaurant and you will hit Calvert Street, or when you exit the Metro go to the left walk past the McDonalds and you'll hit Calvert Street). When walking toward the hotel the outside of the building looks like an older apartment building. However, once you see the hotel's marquee and enter into the hotel's lobby you are transported to a lovely and welcoming hotel experience. The single room is spacious and has the essentials for a business traveler ie) iron and ironing board, small refrigerator, coffee machine, and free internet access if one signs up for Omni's free reward's program. Note, there is no microwave in the room. The work out room is located on the B2 level. It is well equipped, and all treadmills were working when I visited the facility. The hotel also has an outside pool area. If you do not want to eat in the hotel there are plenty of restaurants less than one block away. If you want to grab breakfast or you need a pharmacy/mini grocery there is a Dunkin Donuts and a CVS pharmacy right across the street from the Woodley Park Metro stop. If you want other off site breakfast options and a full grocery store, you only need to walk about a mile from the hotel, cross the Calvert Street bridge and a Starbucks is on the right, McDonalds is across the street, and if you turn left and walk a bit you will hit the Safeway grocery store. Also, on the walk you will pass other restaurants, and if you cross at the intersection across from the Starbucks you will find a good Ethiopian restaurant on the right. As this was a business trip tied in with a conference, and my first time staying in Omni Shore, I cannot say if my less than $180 per night room rate is a standard rate others should expect. However, I can say that the Northwest area is the most expensive area in D.C. Considering the location of the hotel, the cleanliness of the hotel, the quality service by the staff, and the other amenities nearby, I would say that this is very good rate. Last but not least, what made the experience pleasurable was the staff at the Omni. They were all professional, friendly, and were happy to assist. Overall, the Omni Shoreham is a very good option for staying in Washington, D.C.
