My brilliant wife arranged two nights at the Omni Shoreham at the end July. As a former long term Congressional staffer she was very aware of the Shoreham's place in DC political and cultural life, so we were both excited at the prospect of staying. It didn't disappoint. On arrival, the 1930's marbled lobby is breath-taking and I really did have a sense of stepping into history.
On check-in we discovered our room was in the "Annex" which has the advantage of views over Rockcreek Parkway, and the disadvantage of not being part of the old hotel. We wanted the old part of the hotel, and the receptionist was happy to accommodate us despite some obvious shifting around that had to be done.
We had a large, well appointed bedroom on the 4th floor, king-sized bed with a first class mattress and all the amenities you'd expect from a`world-class hotel. The breakfast buffet was amazing - the best of Southern cooking plus a good selection of cold European breakfast goodies. Outstanding baked goods. The serving staff were friendly and professional, so it may have been a buffet but it was definitely silver service.
Location is right by a Metro stop and many interesting restaurants on Connecticut Avenue.
We weren't there long enough to use the pool or fitness facilities, but they certainly looked appealing. Maybe on our next trip....More
