We stayed in June, 2014, in a room with a king sized bed and the bunk beds for our children, ages 14 and 10. We loved the room. The kids really liked the Xbox and the Apples to Apples game provided in the room, and they had a decent selection of Xbox games at the front desk that could be checked out free. Staff was nice and helpful. However, since we travel light and plan to do laundry during our trip, I was very surprised that there were no on site laundry facilities. Honestly, I didn't check into the ahead of time since I haven't stayed anywhere in the last 10 years that didn't have at least a couple of coin-operated washers and dryers. We ended up taking a cab to a laundromat with drop off service and picking up our clothes at the end of the day. It was an inconvenience we didn't expect. They did offer some kind of send-out laundry service, but they wanted about $7.50 to launder a single shirt, and we had four people with four complete sets of clothes... way too expensive for that option. I would strongly recommend that they install a small laundry area for their guests.

Room Tip: Go for the bunk beds if you have children. They are set up with safety in mind and there is a nice...

Hi Heather W. Thank you for taking the time to review your visit to the Rouge. I am so pleased that your family enjoyed the room and the extra complimentary amenities provided for families! I am sorry that we do not have an onsite laundry. We do offer outside service but do not have a Laundromat on site.

Stayed for 1 night on a business trip. Was upgraded to a room, which found to need upgrading. Large bed, couch (with a stain on it), and very small bathroom. Ceiling looked like it had water damage. Feels like they were going for a hip/cool look, but instead it was tired and trashy. Would not stay there again.

Room Tip: Top floor was quiet. Rooms close to the elevator was quieter than I expected.

I can't say enough wonderful things about this hotel. I recently completed an extended business stay at the hotel. The staff, from the front desk to the cleaning staff, were very friendly and helpful. The place is fun and off-beat in the decorations. The location is fantastic -- its in a leafy neighborhood close to lots of places to bike and eat, but super close to work places and the big tourist destinations. The front desk staff helped me with directions, ideas about things to do, and were very responsive. Also, my room was large and spacious and extremely quiet.

Room Tip: My room overlooked the parking lot out back, not a great view, but it was super quiet and I thought...

My wife, 10 year old son, and two small dogs stayed in the Rouge Hotel for three nights, and were totally impressed. We got a king bed with a queen size foldout sofa. The Rouge is about a 10-minute walk from Dupont Circle, and there are restaurants and bars within 5 minutes to the north, including the much-acclaimed Churchkey, for all you beer connoisseurs.

The hotel itself has sort of a hipster vibe, with the "rouge" name and a red theme. There's a small bar downstairs, and as is typical in downtown DC, valet parking is horrifically expensive ($42 a night). That said, it looked and felt nice, and was very comfortable. The Kimpton chain hotels all offer a wine hour from 5-6 PM, and one neat offering was "hangover hour," offering cold pizza and (nonalcoholic) bloody marys on the weekend from 11-12.

The room was very spacious, particularly compared to other hotels in the same price range outside of DC proper. Even with the foldout bed opened, there was plenty of space to walk around the room.

The Kimpton chain is also all pet-friendly. Unlike many other hotels around the DC area, all Kimpton hotels, including the Rouge, have no pet fee and no limit on number or size.

One minor complaint is that the restaurant/bar was not open all hours; they don't do lunch. That's a fairly trivial complaint, though, for an otherwise fun and moderately priced hotel.

Overall, we were extremely comfortable in the Rouge, and we will definitely stay here again when in DC. It's centrally located and nicely appointed.

Great Decor, Friendly staff. On Holiday from UK and had just flown in from New York, the room here was massive compared to what we had in NY. All the amenities in the room were good and the Air Con worked well.
The location is pretty good, if you look straight down the street you can see the back of the White House , a 20 min walk away. Subway is 3 blocks away and there is a bus stop 1/2 block away which will drop you down into town and terminates just outside the Natural History museum on the Mall, coming back , again the bus stop is 1/2 block away . The route gives you access to the Mall, white house and the shops and restaurants on 11th street .
There are shops and restaurants quite close up one block and one block on the right. Just over this way is a Spanish Taps bar Estadio on 14th street - 10-15 min. Fantastic place check them out on tripadvisor.

I really love this hotel. I have stayed here twice in the last 6 months on business and it has been fantastic each time. It is definitely a boutique hotel so don't come expecting everything to look familiar. The theme of the decor is red, black and silver and a lot of it has a kind of rock and roll element to it. For example, the terry cloth bathrobes in the closet are animal prints rather than the usual white. In general the design walks the fine line between classy and fun very nicely. I would definitely say that the target audience is adults (intimacy kits for sale in the mini-bar!) but I did see some families here too and I am sure it is fine for them too. Everything is clean and well kept. The bed was SUPER comfortable too. The staff are incredibly friendly and clearly enjoy working there.

The hotel is on the older side so there are a few minor issues (elevators are small and relatively slow). Also the wifi must be broadcast from the hallway because the signal is strongest next to the door of the room and gets worse the closer you get to the window.

TIPS: Join the Kimpton Hotels InTouch program BEFORE you book your room. This will entitle you to free wifi while you are there AND a $10 coupon towards the mini-bar or bar downstairs. If you join after you arrive, you will get the wifi only.
The hotel offers free coffee and tea in the lobby each morning and a free cocktail hour from 5-6 pm (wine and possibly a cocktail of the day - for me it was hot toddys on a cold January day and watermelon sangria on a hot June day!). These are open to all guests, regardless of InTouch member status. The whole lobby is hopping during this hour and it is a lot of fun.

Nearby: there is a Whole Foods around the corner which is a great spot to pick up any meals you might want. The Metro is a short walk away (without luggage). With luggage it feels pretty far so you might want to take a cab.

Room Tip: Both times I stayed on the 2nd floor and was quite happy there. Rooms were fine and I did not experi...

Rouge was a last minute anniversary stay, and what a pleasant one it was! The red and black decor gives Rouge an art deco feel in the midst of colonial DC. Front desk staff is friendly and the rooms are huge. For a Jetsetter $90 deal, we couldn't have been more satisfied.
