“Good hotel”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 9 December 2008

Good hotel.
Room was well furnished, clean and of a good standard. I have seen some complaints about room and bathroom sizes, by european standards our double on the 8th floor was fine.
All the staff we dealt with were friendly and courteous.
Coffee in the mornings and free wine and beer after a hard days sight seeing is a nice touch. The white belgian style beer was very good!
Close to dupont circle metro being around 5 minutes walk.
We walked down to the White house took no more than 25 minutes.

Front desk recommended an excellent spot for breakfast close by. Kramer books, the weekend specials are excellent. Also doubles as a bar in the evenings. We really liked it.

We have stayed at a number of Kimptons and have always been very happy. Unfortunately, there were a number of issues at the Palomar.

On the plus side, the rooms are certainly large and well appointed.

Upon arriving, we found that the toilet in our room was not working. They sent someone up to fix it; he looked at it and said he would be right back. He then called to say he had some other issues to take care of first. Since we had early dinner reservations, we went to shower, only to find there was no hot water. So, no shower.

I was surprised to find that there was a fee for internet access in the business office.

We were awakened a number of times during the night by fire engine sirens. Must be a station nearby.

A little after 8, we were awakened by very loud talking in the room next door. Don't know if it was thin walls, or through the door which could connect the 2 rooms if unlocked.

Went to the workout room, and discovered that although most of the machines had TV's, the recumbent bike, which faced the mirror, had no access to any TV or music or anything.

These may seem like small matters, but when combined, and when paying for a quality hotel, it made for a less than ideal stay. To top it off, we had to wait 25 minutes for our car on Sunday morning. It was certainly not what we had come to expect at a Kimpton.

They offered us a free breakfast, which we declined, but did adjust the bill. Still, with parking, it was too much to spend for the inconveniences we experienced.

Over the Thanksgiving holiday my husband and I spent 3 nights at the Palomar Hotel. The room was lovely and very comfortable.
After a full day with family the bed was so comforting. We found the staff courteous, helpful and friendly. We will most definitely consider staying here again and recommend to others.

A lovely hotel, that is centrally located and the staff can't do enough for you and after a hard day of sight seeing, the free wine hour between 5-6 is fantastic.
A word of warning on our first night there we were given a room next to the "sculpture room" (gym!) and the noise was horrendous. The staff moved us without any issue, but they must know that there is a problem with that area.
Overall an excellent hotel and I would definitely stay there again

I was quite paranoid about staying here after the reviews on Tripadvisor. Sometimes, one gets the feelings that the reviews on some properties are just *too* good. However, having stayed here I can assure potential guests - it really is a great place to stay.

I won't repeat a lot of what has been said here, but just comment on the following:

*Room - massive, spacious and comfortable. Great linens, products etc. Thought bathroom was small considering the expansive room size, but that was a small niggle.

*Staff - no attitude, all friendly and willing to help if needed. Was happy to see that, because many designer/boutique hotels seem to employ rejected fashionistas who hate their jobs and everyone connected with them. Not at the Palomar, in my experience.

*Facilities - perfect. Free wi-fi, good TV service in room etc, all of which worked flawlessly.

All in all, a really good experience. Thought the offers to print boarding passes etc by filling information in a card in the room was a nice touch, but maybe management could just provide a generic computer/printer in a quiet corner like I've seen in other 5* hotels which allows people to do it themselves (and make their own re-bookings/seat choices etc) and print their own documentation. I would have felt happier/more secure doing it myself rather than leaving things to others discretion.

Still, that is just another small niggle. I heartily recommend the Palomar as a good base to visit DC

Excellent hotel - great location and rooms. Staff were less than friendly at front desk, and the continual disturbances early in the morning (following an overnight flight) were not ideal. Would still recommend for business and holiday travellers.
