“Well worn facility and way overpriced”
Reviewed 5 May 2014

I was looking forward to staying here - the property has a name associated with it. The lobby was very nice, as were the people. But.... that is where very nice stops. As a Marriott platinum, I would expect to get a better room, and if this is better, the rest must be pretty bad. The room was very small, the furniture was old and worn, and the bathroom from the 80s.

Add to all them charging a premium price, And what would have probably been an Average score drops.

The Mayflower in DC is a Marriott Renaissance Hotel. Marriott's website says its Renaissance Hotels are "inspiring." I found nothing inspiring about the Mayflower Hotel. It is housed in a classic old building, but there is nothing inspiring about the design or the service. In fact, there is a great deal of confusion in the design. The lobby and lobby restaurant have recently been renovated. One can tell the designer's brief was to try to be inspiring, hip, modern, etc. but the actuality falls way short. The rooms are old and staid and desperately in need of updating. The furniture is scuffed and marked. The wifi signal was weak in my room. One expects more from an upscale Marriott than this hotel delivers.

Thank you so much for your feedback! Soon the rooms will have the same feel as the lobby. We are looking forward to a rooms renovation at the end of the year! I would love to get a little more detail to find out where we need to double check the internet. Please feel free to email me at the address below. We hope you give us another chance and stay with us again.

Sincerely,
Darcy

I had another very good experience at the Mayflower. I got there early, was given access to the concierge club room until my room was ready. I was upgrade to a suite. I was very lucky and well treated. Room(s) were clean and well cared for. Concierge Club and staff were very nice to me. Large meeting at hotel but eveything seemed to run smoothly. Beautiful historic hotel so if you don't care for that sort of thing find another hotel. Staff are super friendly and helpul. Great location for business and touring Washington sites.

We did not stay here, but used their concierge service to book tickets and tours. I do not know the woman's name but she was absolutely phenomenal. We would consider staying here in the future, just based on her helpfulness.

My jaw dropped when I walked in...the lobby has a really elegant feeling...columns and chandeliers, etc I really enjoyed working on the mezzanine level w/ free wi-fi.
The rooms were very well appointed...with Aveda products in the bathroom!...plus a fridge and coffee maker (which many nice hotels don't seem to offer these days...much appreciated).
And perhaps unexpected in a snooty DC environment...every single employee that I encountered was kind and helpful...front desk, concierge, house keeping, conference/tech staff, etc.
Location is great, close to metro stations and a few blocks from Dupont Circle. Loads of restaurants and bars around.
Only critiques: the water pressure in the showers was a bit lacking. Also, I had to switch out of the first room I was in (636) because of horrific load noises at 4 am from the building next door...construction or something, I don't know. But the hotel was very nice about switching my room.

Room Tip: Not room 636 or thereabouts!

Room was very comfortable; not large but nicely appointed with a king bed. Was able to use the concierge lounge (which was busy due to Nike Half Marathon) and breakfast selection was great. Hotel has a great location, and knowledgeable staff helped with dinner, Metro, and sightseeing suggestions. Lobby bar was a busy place (with the non-runners!). Easy walk to the blue line Metro to Reagan/National Airport.

Stayed at this renaissance recently during my business trip to DC. The hotel is very well located in the area. The room I got was quite small with just a queen size bed. The rooms are old though. May need some renovation. Also didn't have any view from the room unlike other Renaissance I've stayed. The concierge lounge is great and the Gym is awesome.
