“Great location & good conference food”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 8 April 2014

I'm in the middle of a 5 night business stay, and it's been a mostly good experience with just a couple of minor annoyances.

Visually, the hotel lobby is a treat, with lots of great-looking seating areas, including some that are delightfully Arabian Nights-ish, and my room is very plush and comfortable. Pluses include:

* comfortable, well-appointed room
* great location - 2 blocks from Gallery Place (red line) Metro, easy walk straight down 9th Street to the Mall, fetching up right at the Hirshchorn and Smithsonian Castle
* very good conference food, MUCH better than the Mayflower
* one very good experience with dining room staff who went above & beyond to bring a pot of hot water to my table for a volunteer who was suffering from a sore throat

Minuses include:

* you can't take a hot bath - not only has the water temperature been set to not very hot, but the tub flow has been set so low that the surface cools off as fast as the hot water flows in. If you're someone who likes a good hot bath, this could be a bummer.

* the maids keep clearing away my used towels even though I hang them on the hook with their "enviro" sign saying they'll let me re-use them if I hang them there

* no wifi in the Grand Ballroom, where all of our conference plenaries happen - for a professional communications person who uses Twitter to promote what my organization does, this is a bit of an annoyance.

Room Tip: I was on the 2nd floor facing the Carnegie Library - less privacy than a higher floor but it turned...

I'd actually give this 3 1/2 stars if i could. The rooms are comfortable and the location couldn't be better for business at the convention center, since it's only a block away. The rooms are not well soundproofed - I could hear everything that happened in the hallway. Rooms were astronomically priced, probably due to the demographics of the convention I was attending (American College of Cardiology).

The lobby bar and the President's Sports Bar both had great service, even though they were both very busy each night. The breakfast buffet was well-stocked and open until 11 a.m. There are also many excellent restaurants within walking distance.

Room Tip: Rooms facing the interior courtyard are less noisy. Exterior rooms have quite a bit of street noise.

I hadn't stayed at this hotel for at least 10 years. The facility has been very nicely upgraded to a modern upscale hotel. The common areas were very stylish and welcoming. The meeting areas were comfortable and spacious. My standard king room was well appointed with luxury linens. The room was on the smaller side but was efficient for space. The food served at my meetings by the hotel was tasty and of good quality. i would like to see a larger clock at the bedside for seeing what time it is in the night.

It's very convenient to the Gallery Place Metro Stop. The excellent Smithsonian American Art/Portrait Gallery is 3 blocks. There are many good restaurants and bars in close walking distance. It's also very close to Chinatown and the Convention Center.

I checked other reviews before I left and do concur that the music in the elevators and in the front vestibule is quite loud.

I thought the price was a bit high, but my stay was during the business week and covered by my company so I didn't question it.

When my travels for business take me to DC, this hotel is my first choice! The property is in the heart of the DC, and next to the China Town. The property is full service, and offers room fully equipped to meet the needs of any road warrior/business traveler's needs. As a Platinum guest I was greeted by an attentive front desk staff, upgraded to a courtyard top floor club room, and has access to the Club Lounge. The Club Lounge is one of the better ones in DC, and features full service breakfast and evening foods/drinks. I like the modern comfortable contemporary design of this property which provides for a comfortable, clean and productive stay each time visiting this property. The staff have a can do attitude which I also appreciate much! Highly recommend this property to all!

Room Tip: Request courtyard view room ,,,,more quiet.

Service here is top notch. The location is convenient, and in the evenings the lobby bar is hopping! Also, the lobby restaurant has very good food, surprisingly, and there is a convenient Starbucks in the lobby as well, but it closes early evening.

Room Tip: Club room is not open on weekends

Hands down, this is my preferred location to stay when I travel to DC for business. The hotel rooms are impeccably clean and well appointed. I appreciate the more modern feel to the hotel room and overall experience. I have stayed at this hotel several times over the past few year and I have been pleased during every visit. My most recent visit was last week. The access to the Vida Fitness Center is quite nice. The hotels location is within easy walking distance to the Gallery Place Metro and and a moderately longer walk to the Metro Center stop. Overall, you have easy access to the restaurants in the Chinatown area and the Verizon Center.
