I found this hotel to be a great place to stay. The staff was very courteous, it was clean and friendly. It was very close to the metro, located near the GWU area. Whole Foods and Trader Joe's were in walking distance to the hotel which made it ideal for bringing back groceries in order to make some meals in your room. One of the elevators was not in service so if you were in a hurry to get downstairs, you had to take the stairs. For an exercise buff such as myself, that was not an issue.

Hello there, and thanks for the fantastic review! We really appreciate the comments you said about our staff being friendly, that is definitely what we strive for! Our location is great as well, guests love having grocery stores and the Metro nearby with just a five minute walk. My apologies for the delays you may have experienced with the elevator. We are in the last phases of modernizing our elevators, very soon we will have not just one brand new elevator, but two! I am glad that you enjoyed taking the stairs when you could, it is definitely great exercise! I hope you were able to take in some of the local walking trails in the city, and we can provide complimentary bike rentals during your visit as well! Thanks again, and we hope to see you again very soon at The River Inn!

A good hotel. Close to Foggy Bottom metro. Whole Foods and Trader Joe's nearby. A few dated touches here and there, but clean, well furnished, and the staff was attentive and friendly. I was impressed overall and would definitely stay here again. I had a one bedroom suite with the kitchen and it was nice to have the amenities to save money on food.

The hotel and service were better than expected. The location was great close to the GW metro station and within walking distance to all the sites on the National Mall. We found some nice restaurants and there was a Whole Foods within walking distance. The room was very nice lots of room and a small kitchen. The staff was friendly and helpful. I will definity stay there again on my next trip to DC.

Room Tip: Get a Jr. Suite with a kitchen and make a cup of fresh ground coffee.

I agree that our suites are very spacious, they are perfect for both short-term and long-term stays. Also, I'm glad that you got to enjoy the coffee beans and grinder! There's nothing better than the smell of fresh coffee in the morning. Thanks for your compliments to our staff, they are very hard working and love to hear guests' feedback. Plus: Pretty good location near Foggy Bottom Metro, nice large suite-type rooms with kitchen and living room area, modern facility at reasonable prices.

Minus: No restaurants or stores nearby, so you'll have to walk or taxi ten blocks to Georgetown or Foggy Bottom to pick up sundries or find a meal. The rooms are oddly appointed: there is no good light in the bedroom; the telephone in the living room is not on the desk, but a side table; the internet is free but has one of those old-style systems that better hotels got rid of several years ago -- it is always disconnecting and opening the password page, and it gets very weak at certain "cold" spots in the apartment, this is a huge annoyance. One elevator is broken and the other one is very, very, very slow. The lobby restaurant is not bad, but is hugely overpriced -- one look at the room service menu and the various fees they charge to send up a sandwich and a beer will make you toss the menu in the trash -- but then there are no restaurants nearby, so you feel frustrated.

Overall, a decent hotel. They can't change things like the neighborhood, but they can certainly fix the internet, the elevators, and the room service menu. When they do, I would be a repeat customer.

Room Tip: It's a quiet neighborhood, it doesn't really matter if you're in a front or back room...

Thank you for your feedback on your recent stay at The River Inn! It's great that you enjoyed your suite, guests really enjoy having a kitchen!I am amazed to hear that you found the location to not be ideal with regards to food options. Our guests love our spot in the middle of the Foggy Bottom neighborhood, with multiple restaurants within a five minute walking distance (this includes the restaurants right at the Foggy Bottom Metro, as well as those two blocks north of us heading into Georgetown). We have two grocery stores within a five minute walk as well, which is great for stocking up the kitchen in your suite! I am sorry to hear that you found the elevator to be very slow. The other one is not broken, but rather is being modernized. We are getting brand new elevators, which both the staff and our guests are very excited about! The functioning elevator is brand new, but I agree that it is a little slower due to the heavy traffic it is receiving. I do hope that you don't let these items prevent you from staying with us again in the future! We would love to have you come back sometime, please give us a call so we can further look into ways to improve your next stay. Thank you again for your review, and we are looking forward to hearing from you soon at The River Inn!

We were recently at the River Inn for a four day weekend trip to visit family who live in the Foggy Bottom/Georgetown neighborhoods, This hotel is close to GWU, Georgetown and the Foggy Bottom Metro as well as Whole Foods, Trader Joe's and numerous informal and more formal restaurants. We were on the 8th floor and had a terrific Potomac River view. The one bedroom suite was spacious and spotless. The front desk/door/houeskeeping staff could not have been nicer. The front desk staff was especially friendly and helpful. Since both our kids attended GWU we have made numerous visits to the DC area over the past 8 years and I always try to stay at the River Inn if rooms are available, this past visit was especially nice.

Room Tip: If you get a one bedroon suite with a king size bed the living area is larger if you are having frie...

The living space is great for entertaining family and friends, and there's room for guests to stay over on the pull out sofa. The hotel was exactly what we were looking for and more. I wanted a hotel near GWU and the attractions and it was perfect. The staff was friendly and helpful when we asked for advice. It was a pleasant surprise to see that we even had a small kitchen in our room. The furniture was very modern and new and the bed was comfortable! We walked almost everywhere but it is very close to the Metro as well.

Greetings, and thank you for choosing The River Inn as your DC hotel! I am so glad to hear that you and your family enjoyed your time here. It sounds like we were just what you were looking for during your stay! Our location is perfect, especially if you are here to visit GWU and to see the sights such as the National Mall and Georgetown. As you indicated, many things you can get to just by walking, but it is nice to know that the Metro is only two and a half blocks away. Thanks for you nice comments on our staff and suites! We actually had the rooms modernized a couple of months ago, so I am glad that you like our new look. The kitchens are great as well, especially when you are traveling with family! Thanks again for your review, and we hope to see you again at The River Inn!

I don't know what took me so many years to get back to DC, but we had a wonderful time. The River Inn was comfortable, rooms clean, lighting good, beds comfy, the staff (including doorman, front desk and housekeeping) were very friendly. We arrived early and our room was ready. The Metro station is convenient. Trader Joe and Whole Foods nearby. Good restaurants nearby. We got a little confused looking for CVS and a liquor store. I plan to go back to DC in the fall or next spring and will definately stay at River Inn.

We are so happy to hear that you found a new home in DC at The River Inn! Our guests tend to see us as a pleasant surprise, sometimes you don't realize exactly what is around the hotel until you get here. We are in an amazing location, as you stated we are walking distance to many local restaurants, grocery stores, and the Foggy Bottom Metro stop. The closest CVS is actually located underneath the Watergate complex, which understandably is a little difficult to find. There is also a CVS in Georgetown where Pennsylvania Avenue and M Street meet, as well as two located on the George Washington University campus. The closest liquor store is up on Pennsylvania Avenue, but the Trader Joe's and Whole Foods Market have a good selection as well! Thank you so much for your stay, and we hope to see you again soon.
