“Yes, would recommend!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 2 August 2010

The River Inn is very conveniently located with one of the best prices for the location. The staff were all very friendly and eager to help. It is just a short walk to the Metro. People just walk everywhere in DC. We started our vacation there by walking to the Lincoln Memorial and saw all of the sights at the Western end of the Mall and walked back. The kitchen was great for a quick (cheap) breakfast. There is a boutique grocery store up the street, but my advise is to bring food and plastic cups, plates, plasticwear (especially if you are traveling with more than two people) with you. Stop at a WalMart before you enter DC because everything is VERY expensive there. We loved the decor of the room. The bathroom was really nice and clean too.

The accommodations were great, but the best part was feeling like we were part of the neighborhood. We had a large, king suite, it was almost bigger than the first house we owned. I loved the view from our room and the beds were very comfy. Great A/C on the two muggy days while we were there. My only criticism would be the lack of electrical outlets in the hallway vanity area and kitchen. And if you are going to provide Starbucks coffee beans and a grinder, then why have the tiny four cup coffee maker? If you stay here, don't rent a car - everything is convenient. I highly recommend visiting Trader Joe's as soon as you arrive. After a day of walking on the Capital Mall, it was so nice to go back to the room, collapse, and fix something light. The restaurant owner/manager is very friendly and the salmon was delicious. We were in NY last year and were pleasantly surprised by the inexpensive prices for meals in DC. The metro is a short block or so from the hotel and very easy to figure out. We are from a rural area and unfamiliar with mass transit - so two words of advice 1. stay to the right on the escalators if you are going to stand still and 2. the train doors are not like elevator doors, you can't hold them open if they start to close (you could actually put the train out of service and have a car full of enemies). We are totally out of shape, but borrowed the hotel's bikes and went to Arlington and Georgetown - except for one hill in Georgetown, the whole area is relatively flat and easy to bike around. I would definitely stay at the River Inn again

Thank you for your feedback. We are glad to hear you enjoyed our spacious suite and being part of the neighborhood is a great feeling. We will certainly forward these comments over to the pertinent staff regarding the outlets and the coffee makers. I absolutely agree with your comments regarding metro. The traffic pattern on the left hand side is extremely aggressive and the quantity of people holding doors open is immense. More signage should be available at the metro stations. Let's hope they figure that out. Thank you again for your comments and we hope to see you again soon!!

We booked this hotel on-line as it looked like a good value option. We were not disappointed and the hotel was just as we required. It is located on a quiet residential, tree lined street with lots of old town houses. The nearest Metro stop is Foggy Bottom, a few minutes walk away. Washington Square and George Washington Hospital are also very close by. The room, family size, was spotlessly clean with equally spotless kitchen & bathroom attached.

Just returned from a trip to DC, would stay again at The River Inn, the room was comfortable, and staff were attentive. Sure the wallpaper was a but bumpy and the carpet a bit lumpy, but all was clean and comfy, and considering it was about half the price of surrounding Hotels and in a quiet neighborhood, we couldn't be happier. DC seems to be cheapest on Friday and Saturday nights, we paid $99. plus tax & parking, Sunday was a little more at $129. plus tax & parking, we booked online through a website. The Metro Line is close, as is the Yellow Line tour bus stops just a 1/2 block away! Georgetown shopping and restaurants just a few blocks (3), close enough to walk, but far enough to sleep away from the traffic. The rooms have fridges & microwaves, so if you have restaurant leftovers you don't have to waste them. We did not use the Hotel restaurant since we made a simple breakfast in the room and were out touring at lunch and dinner.

stayed with 2 kids 11&13, lovely spacious suites. Queen bed and sofa bed, even offered rollaway bed if needed. bathroom very nice, marble tiling and rain head shower, good kitchen facilities, large fridge stocked with ice on arrival. coffee maker, coffee beans and grinder, well stocked with utensils etc although did'nt cook. across from Watergate building, short walk to Georgetown(5 mins), less than mile to whitehouse, 15 minute walk to Lincoln Memorial. Really enjoyed stay there and could have stayed longer. would recommend as a base in DC, we got a great rate by booking directly with hotel and paying in advance.

It was Memorial Day weekend and I needed a last minute place to stay and The River Inn had a nice rate, so I booked it. Wow, when I checked in, they put me in a huge King Suite with a large couch, flat screen tv, nice bathroom, and a fully equipped kitchen. The total stay was only $170, WOW, for the Foggy Bottom/Georgetown area, that is amazing. The only downside, I was awakened around 1am to a loud party next door, but it was Memorial Day and they didn't party too much longer. Surely, I will stay here again, it is close to work and the metro. Thanks so much for your hospitality and excellent boutique hotel!

My family and I just stayed five nights at The River Inn. I had read all of the reviews on here before booking and my expectations were high.

The room was spacious and clean albeit out of date and kind of old looking. The bathroom was really, really small so that was a disappointment. Yes, there is a very large showerhead but the water pressure isn't enough to really make it work well. GREAT location...very close to the Foggy Bottom metro stop which made it SO easy to get around town. The kitchen was great and had a refrigerator, microwave, coffee maker, dishes, cutlery etc.

Overall, it's a great choice of hotel. More of a 3 star type of place. However, if I were travelling to the DC area again I would stay here!
