“Nice Remodel, Location So-So”
Reviewed 9 December 2013

Really handsome lobby and rooms. Brand spanking-new remodel so everything works. Flat-screen, good HVAC, comfy beds. Wi-fi is $12.95 in the rooms. I dispute the review calling this a "great" location. It's actually in Foggy Bottom, not a lively neighborhood with lots of shops and restaurants - OK but not great. Pleasant staff and Illy coffee shop connected to the property are pluses. BIG negative is the noise. When we stayed the noise was awful due to an ongoing garage remodel. Everyone was commenting on the incessant jackhammering. Be sure to check on this before booking this hotel! Almost as bad is the blaring technopop throughout public areas. I was told that "corporate" decreed the deafening decibel level and thumping muzak to make the hotel seem "modern." Or you can get free wi-fi and less noise elsewhere not so "modern"

Room Tip: High floors will have less noise

Hi Cawater,

Thanks for the candid feedback! While it sonds like you enjoyed your stay, clearly there were some detractors. I was disappointed to see the comment about the location. Next time you come you will have to try some of the fantastic restaurants right around the corner from us like Rasika West End, Ris or the West End Bistro among others.

I sincerely apoligize for the noise you experienced during your stay. As you know, we are currently going through a garage refesh project. We have made every effort to notify our guests at time of booking as well as upon check in to the hotel, however between 8am to 6pm Monday through Saturday there is unavoidable noise.

If you do decide to stay with us again soon, please reach out to me so that we can ensure you have a great stay.

Thank you,

Mike Horowitz

I often travel to DC and stay in the DuPont area. This was my first stay at the Renaissance and I was pleasantly surprised. I didn't realize that Marriott had boutique hotels. While the rooms were smaller than most Marriott hotels, the staff were very helpful and it was a great location for a small conference. The food for all of our conference meals were superb and the variety of choice was well appreciated. I was also quite pleased with the beds. My only ding from the stay was that they weren't able to upgrade me based on my rewards status.

Hi BFR1920,
Thanks for the candid review! We are indeed a boutique style hotel with rooms that run a bit smaller than you may be used to. They are clean, comfortable, and have everything you may need, but do run on the small side. Please note that if you decide to stay with us again, please reach out to me to let me know that you are coming so that we can give you the VIP treatment you deserve! Thank you for being a loyal Marriott Rewards member.
Take care and safe travels,
Mike Horowitz

In the context of D.C. hotels, there are some great features here. We got an excellent rate, firstly. Rooms are small, but the beds are very comfortable, nice decor and linens. They use Aveda products for their toiletries which is really wonderful. There is a gym - no small thing in D.C - and it actually has weights, and enough ellipticals/treadmills/bikes for the morning rush. We were greeted with hot cider when we arrived and everyone has been very nice and helpful. Good bar downstairs, prompt elevators. The only downside is it's a bit of a walk to a metro, and not really in Dupont Circle. But, if you don't mind walking, it's nice to be out of the busy atmosphere of Dupont. Only takes about 10 mins to walk there.

Hi Emily S,
Thanks for the candid review! I'm happy to see that you enjoyed your stay with us. We are a boutique style hotel with rooms that run smaller, however they are clean, modern rooms and have everything you may need. It can be a bit of a walk to the Dupont Circle Metro as we are a few blocks from the circle (especially in the November cold). Please note that we are actually a couple minutes closer to the Foggy Bottom Metro (About 6 minutes compared to 8-9 minutes to the Dupont Circle station. Please come to stay with us again soon if you are back in town and looking for a great value!

Stayed 3 nights here with my wife and two teenage boys. Our first night followed an eight hour flight. We were tired. The check in was immediate and efficient as well as being very friendly. It is a boutique hotel and consequently rooms are compact. I asked for the most spacious room available and was given one of almost double the standard size.
The room was spotless, quiet and comfortable. Beds were exceptionally comfortable.

We ate dinner in the hotel on our first evening and it was superb. I had One of the best steaks I have ever eaten. Everyone thought the food was excellent.

Our stay there was flawless and any member of staff that we dealt with was very friendly, polite and helpful.

If we ever return to DC we would be happy to stay there again. The location is convenient to the main tourist attractions but is quiet and pleasant.

The only quibble was the cost if breakfast - an indefensible $21 each! That was easily overcome by eating breakfast in the Potbelly across the road where staff are also friendly and obliging and the food is very satisfying.

Hi Longfordian,
Thanks for the amazing review! We are a boutique style hotel with rooms that run a bit smaller, however there are a number of different room configurations and sizes. You made the right decision by asking us! Our team is used to handling these requests and will set you up in one of our larger rooms if available. I'm thrilled that you enjoyed your food as well. With the first female Executive Chef working for Marriott in Washington DC, our food is top notch. Glad you had a chance to enjoy! With regards to the buffet pricing, we do stay competitively priced compared with the hotels in the area, but we can revisit this to make sure that we are not overpriced based on the food being offered. Thanks again for the candid feedback and please come back to see us again soon!

Perfect location and best part is the guest service. The experience started at checking in and Giovanni was extremely helpful. He explained the places around, where to get dinner at late hour and how to get to my office the next day. He even gave me free Internet. What a treat!

This Renaissance hotel met the typical high standards of a Marriott but also was in a great location for walking and using the Metro (10 min walk to Foggy Bottom Metro and 20 mins by Metro from Reagan Airport.) I booked online 2 mos. in advance for a stay in Oct. and got a rate of $100 per night including tax. Best value ever!
