We find ourselves in Washington, DC, from 1 - 6x per year for business. Often, we stay in a hotel, where the meetings are being held, and have stayed at the Capital Hilton, though not for the last 18, or so months. On our last visit, there was construction on-going, though that did not affect us, except that some entrances were closed.
We were back this Summer, for several meetings, and my wife’s visits to Capitol Hill, so chose the Capital Hilton once again. As we are HHonors Diamond VIP members, we are used to room upgrades, but were surprised to be given one of the Capital Suites at such a busy property.
The reception area has always been highly efficient, and this was no exception. We were greeted as returning HHonors Diamond members, and the whole process of check-in was handled with extreme professionalism, but also hospitality.
Our room consisted of a bedroom, a sitting area and a kitchenette. There were locked connecting doorways, that probably allowed this room to be greatly expanded into a full hospitality suite. The rooms were spacious, and bright. Everything was very clean, and comfortable, though it was obvious that the furniture had been well-used over the years. Still, everything worked well.
The walk-in shower was a plus, as my wife has two artificial hips. While not a full ADA room, the shower was designed to accommodate someone, who could not stand. This did not present any problems, as the seat folded completely away. Some ADA rooms can present issues, if one does not need every aspect of them. This was not the case in our Capital Suite.
The bed looked like it might be sagging a bit, however it was wonderfully comfortable, so initial looks can be deceiving. I would say that some of the upholstery and the comforter could probably stand replacing, but all was still very clean.
If there was any complaint, it was the room’s view - but considering the location and orientation of the building, I am not sure that there are many views, that are better. It did appear that some of the near-by suites did have balconies, but I have never had one of those.
All construction is complete in the lobby areas, and I would anticipate that renovation of some of the rooms will start soon.
Though we were on one of the “Executive Floors,” with access to the VIP Lounge, we never had time to visit on this trip. From previous stays, it impressed me as being a very nice room, as are Lounges in most major Hilton properties.
The location is ideal, just a few blocks north of the White House and the Capital Mall. Capitol Hill is just a few easy blocks away. The Capital Hilton is surrounded by many restaurants featuring diverse cuisine and at many price-points. Shopping is also close at hand.
In all, we were very satisfied, and will be booking at this property in the future.
