“Great location, great price”
Reviewed 2 August 2011

We just returned from our visit to Washington, D.C. (July 29-August1) and we stayed at the Carlyle Suites Hotel due to the high recommendations it received and the good price we were able to get. The hotel was in an excellent location for our purposes. We could have taken the nearby Metro but due to the excessive heat and my 82 year old father-in-law accompanying us we drove most places. There are a small number of parking spots directly behind the hotel for free but they were never available. We were, however, always able to find street parking mindful of the parking restrictions. I understand that tickets are issued freely so we always made sure that we moved our car when needed. We had a king suite. Our 19 year old son slept on the sofa bed. He complained about it as did my husband about our mattress. It was not firm. The only other complaint I had was that we weren't left enough towels so I had to ask the maids for them every day. The last day we never received bath towels. A call to the desk solved that problem quickly. The staff seemed eager to help us. They gave out bottles of water at all times which were greatly appreciated. I booked the room from one of the websites that popped up and it had rooms available while the hotel itself did not. People say some times to call the hotel itself and see if you can get a better price but in this case the hotel had no rooms available and the website did. We also ate breakfast there two mornings. You can eat all you want for $11.95. It's not cheap but the price wasn't bad for a hotel and there was a nice but not an enormous selection including someone making any kind of eggs you want and waffles. If i could get a good price again, I would definitely stay there.

I loved my three-night stay at the Carlyle. The room I was in was so nice, I almost didn't want to explore DC.

The room had a king-size bed, LCD tv, couch, coffee table, dining table, small kitchen, vanity table, and a gorgeous bathroom. It was like my own studio apartment in DC.

Located in quiet residential neighborhood off of Dupont Circle. The staff was exceptionally friendly. The hotel was spotless, and I never heard a peep from my neighbors.

Amazing hotel.

We had a very nice time at the Carlyle Suites. The hotel was clean, very comfortable and ideally located near the DuPont Circle (Metro about 4 blocks away). The staff was very friendly and did all that they could to accommodate us and we would defintiely return in the future.

Room Tip: The staff did a nice job getting 2 families on the same floor in a fully-booked hotel.

We chose Carlyle Suites when booking our trip to Washington DC based on the Trip Advisor reviews, and boy were we glad we did! The room was large, with everything we needed included. It was nice to have a fridge on the room. The bed was one of the most comfortable we have ever slept in! When we first arrived, Bernadette was working the front desk, and she was so helpful. I would like to commend Carlyle for having such a warm, welcoming, friendly front desk staff. Hotel manager David went above and beyond to make sure we were able to do everything we wanted to without worrying about parking. Next time we visit DC, we will definitely be staying at the Carlyle suites again!

I just returned from 4 nights in the hotel on the 8th floor. The air conditioner struggled mightily with the heat and humidity and the cold air was not aimed towards the sleeping area, but rather, the kitchenette. The coffee machine was broken and never repaired, even after reporting it. The staff was polite but impersonal, except for the maids, who were friendly and welcoming. Housekeeping was perfect.

The breakfast buffet was really bad - cold breakfast meats, scrambled eggs swimming in something (water? oil?). There appeared to be omelets and waffles as an alternative, but none of the restaurant staff offered either - there was never a menu provided, nor was there any contact with the staff, other than to pay the bill - they were a pretty unfriendly bunch and presented a really lousy dining experience. Fortunately, there are many eating options available in the neighborhood, both north of the hotel, within easy walking distance, and via Metro. "Subway" provided a superior and less expensive breakfast alternative; a Starbucks is also in the neighborhood.

The kitchen area in the room was well done, and, were I to stay here again, I'd prepare my own breakfasts, at least - there is a small Safeway a couple of blocks away. The refrigerator in the room was very helpful in cooling water bottles.

All in all, an uninspiring experience, even at a discounted price.

I stayed here in April with my husband and two tween kids. It is very hard to find a two bedroom suite (unless you are willing to pay an arm and a leg) in Washington, D.C. DC is also known, because of the high number of travelers for being bedbug ridden. Luckily, I checked the bedbug registry, and the Carlyle Suites is bedbug free. When we booked we also got a voucher for 20% off a meal at the hotel restaurant.

The room was nice, 2 beds and a separate (but no door) living area with a sofa and TV. There was a separate kitchen area which had a coffee maker, microwave and fridge. Check-in was a bit of a hassle as we had to wait for our room to be ready. The bathroom was very nice, very cool shower and very modern overall. We did not try the restaurant in the hotel, though it looked rather small and seemed pricey. The front desk was friendly enough, and the hallways had a nice retro vibe. The room could have been cleaner, but it was not terrible.

Carlyle Suites is located in the Dupont Circle area of DC. We thought the area was beautiful, it is near all of the embassies. Our kids thought it was too far from the Metro (about 10 blocks give or take). There is a Panera, Cosi and Starbucks all right near the train.

Overall I would stay here again, it was a little cramped but certainly more spacious than most other hotels would have been. There was free wifi which worked fine for my husband's iPad. We found the Metro to be convenient (though a bit confusing on pricing) to get almost anyplace. Also, the hotel's website provides a lot of useful information, as well as different specials/packages available.
